    I personally would tell people to save their money or buy from a brand that actually cares about their quality control and not depending on their old reputation to carry them on the market.

      @@ytinf1090 thats true if you actually find a decent one which is quite rare. It was a legendary brand that is just shitty now, and you are completely blind or biased if you disregard the quality craftsmanship of guys like theo, RR and ted klum etc. Think to yourself why the worlds best mouthpiece reviewers and mouthpiece refacers think so negatively of Otto Link now. Even the top players realize that modern links are horrible. Truth is the only reason they are still in business is because old school conservative jazz musicians recommend them to their students based on reputation and the kids do not know any better.

    I play the Florida 7* and NY 7*. The Florida is much brighter. Quality was ok out of the box. I love both moutpieces.

    Wow you sound fantastic on all three mouthpieces I have to say I purchase the Florida anniversary and there was a lot of problems with it imperfections I was very disappointed I sent it out tenor madness. Then it came back a lot better but I still didn't like it it was something missing I purchased the retro revival super D, gold plated New York number 8 2 months ago so far so good I'm happy with it it's a great piece I'm using Roberto wind n 3 hard And so far so good I'm curious to know what brand of reach you're using on your super D and what strength thank you so much again and you sound fantastic fabulous take care.

    So many players from the 50´s and 60´s and on, put their own baffles in to increase the projection and compensate for the tubbiness in the links produced at that time and up until today, Everybody has them refaced, especially those produced from Babbitt. The best
    one you played ( for my ears) was the RR. More money but the quality control is what one pays for. An original Link from out
    the box, no matter when or where it was made, that plays great-is a rarity and in my opinion almost a myth. They all play and sound different from each other. Just like the Mark VI. I will admit that I have a 4* Florida and a Babbitt 6 Super Tonemaster
    that i use for recording! They are original out of the box, not perfectly made, but in the studio.....

      I learnt to play early 60s. One old teacher told me players used chewing gum to alter the sound. Just hope they didn't breathe in too hard 😲.

    I play a NY Retro double ring and was curious to see how the new Otto Link FL compared to RR FL double ring. Liked the RR and see price is a little more but you’re paying for the difference.

    • @bebopshulang

      Stick to RR because they actually care about their quality control

    • @MrGuto
      @MrGuto 4 роки тому +1

      @@bebopshulang I agree with that. I have the Link FL and it wasn't till I had a good refacer 'clean it up' that it became really responsive. I really like it, but had I known how much $ I'd have put into it, I'd probably have gotten a RR instead. With Links, it's a bit of a gamble whether you get something good straight out of the factory, with the odds not in your favor. You just need to look at their website to get a clue of how much they really care about their products, as opposed to running a business on the brand name legacy. In contrast, boutique pieces like the RR are finished to higher quality. You get what you pay for. Another issue with modern Links is their shank diameter tends to be quite small, smaller than average. Swapping pieces on the same neck becomes a problem. On mine I sanded the shank inside diameter down by about 0.25mm to get it in the ballpark of my few other mouthpieces.

    How is the quality control with these do you know? I don't dislike Links but modern Otto Links have been hit or miss with their quality which I wish JJ Babbitt would sort out.

    The Retro Revival NY DR mouthpieces are very nice, but they don't resemble any of the original NY DRs I have owned, the baffles on these RR pieces are from another era.If that horn you are playing is a Trevor James RAW, it's a great setup with the Florida piece, for my ear.

    It must be me but I’m not a great sax player by any means but I’ve listen to many saxophone comparisons and mouthpieces and so on ,I can’t tell much difference in the sounds they make to compare,it must mean more to the player and how they effect the playability not so much the listener. These comparisons are more entertainment I do enjoy the talent

    This sounds like a sales pitch. You fail to mention that reeds will have a huge impact on the outcome. You fail to demonstrate on a new sax. A good player will play all three well. If and when I come to London I will demonstrate that the STM is just as good. Thanks for trying but no thanks!
