Yes size of owner is such a myth. People that think so do not understand dog training. I will use the example of Joel the trainer shown in this video ....he trained killer whales! He's not bigger than a whale so right there myth busted 😂

We've just adopted a 9mth old cane corso and I've never come across such an incredibly intelligent but goofy dog, she is so amazing. I've started her training for me in little and often, currently doing basket muzzle training and socialising in public. Anyway merry Christmas and greetings from the UK 🇬🇧

I have to say I was afraid of owning a cane corso because of my size as well until my husband sent me your video “How to convince your wife to get a cane corso!” I’ve been following you both since then! ❤ Once I realized how tiny Kara is I was at ease with the breed. My husband picked up Gabriel (our corso) on Valentine’s Day. He walked into my store carrying Gabriel in his arms and Gabriel’s first reaction to me was growling…. It set me back a bit but after spending a few hours with him I fell in love with him. We purchased all your courses and used your videos to prepare us for training and socialization. Gabriel is now 3 years old and we still socialize him. The biggest compliment we still get today is how intimidating he looks but yet he’s so sweet. Thank you again for all the training and guidance you have given us all these years on cane corsos 😊. Ps: I just noticed the white spots on the bottom of Bruce’s feet! So cute!!

I have a 6 month cane corso who already weighs 71lbs as of 2 weeks ago. He has his basics. We’re in obedience training. He listens to me very well. Never takes a toy from me unless I allow him. I can’t wait to see what learns as we go thru more agile training. I weigh 120lbs. I think how you speak to them and how you handle them at an early age. Training is consistent daily. We work him atleast 3 times a day that does not include our training classes. His training has gone so well I can finally bathe him on my own.

I call that stare the cane corso stare. My best buddy Garibaldi is a champion of the "how far do you want to take this?" look. He never does it with me. He could knock me on my butt any time he wants but Corsos really understand respect.

One of the reasons we decided to not get a Corso is because every breeder we spoke with tried to talk us out of getting a male because we already have other males. Even going so far as to offer us discounts to NOT get a male. I myself prefer male dogs and really wanted a male. So we decided that another Bullmastiff would be best.
Honestly, the Bullmastiff is my soul breed and I've done a lot of work with them and am most comfortable working with Bullmastiffs. We were fortunate enough to find a beautiful breeder. But because of medical bills we were cautious so I set up a puppy fund account for just our pups. An amazing couple gave our breeder a donation for our puppy of choice and it truly was a blessing. Now we have our beautiful Red Boy Bullmastiff, Audie, and I'm trying to document every moment of service training with him.
However, the Corso is just a beautiful, stunning, and majestic breed that I love and hope to get to work with one day. And y'all truly are wonderful advocates for the breed by sharing information and content.
Gender really doesn't matter when it comes to what breed of dog you're getting. I'm super small at only 93 pounds and I still have control of our 75 pound Pittie. I had control of our first 130+ pound Bullmastiff and I'm near positive I'll have control of our new Bullmastiff baby. It's all in how you treat them and train them. Balance training is essential.
    Much love!😍

I am a small 61 year old female and own a 162 pound very fit and active intact male Dogue de Bordeaux ( my second intact male of this breed.) The DDB does not have quite the intensity and drive of the Corso, but it’s a massive guardian breed, and all that you are saying in this video rings true in my experience! It takes constant work and training…a lifestyle, really. But, I would not have it any other way; the Bordeaux has my heart. ❤️ Giant breeds are my jam, and either you understand them or you don’t- and if you love them enough, you do what it takes for a happy life for them and you. 😊

My daughter and I have a male Doberman and a male Great Dane-they clearly understand who the bosses are… neither one of them are crazy about men…they love women and children…Jaeger, our Doberman can definitely change at a moments notice…he is extremely protective of us …most of the time he is ok around strangers but sometimes he just suddenly doesn’t like someone-I don’t know if they give off some vibe that he doesn’t like…they don’t have to even come near us, so it’s not like they are a threat to us…for some reason, neither dog likes one of our male neighbors-they bark at him and it’s not a nice friendly bark-not sure what is going on there but something is off there…and you would be amazed at the number of kids who just walk right up to Jaeger and love him…I would never have just walked up to a Doberman when I was a kid!!
I just love Bruce and JJ…they are both so beautiful and well behaved!!! You both have done a fantastic job with them and have made them ambassadors for their breed!!! I think people see them and instantly want them not realizing the work you and Cara have put into them!!!
Big hugs to all 4 of you

My mother would’ve had this breed if she would’ve known about them. She was 4 foot 11 and weighed 100 pounds. She mixed great Danes with Doberman pinchers because she wanted dogs with a mixture of those two breeds. My parents had 5 acres on a mountain top in Puerto Rico and she train those dogs on her own. When you came into the property, you would never see the dogs barking at the gates. They would allow you in and as you park the car, you can see two in the front two in the back. She would release her command and that’s when the dogs relaxed and allowed you to get out of the car. Her training skills were self taught, and she did it all on instinct. She never missed the beat. Dogs react to love and discipline. Not gender. By the way, all four of the dogs were huge males. I am proud to say that I have had extremely well-trained German shepherds, doberman pinchers, Rottweilers and Chihuahuas. And Chihuahuas can be as vicious as big dogs if you let them.

I agree regarding personal preference for males. Especially so re: Cane Corso’s. Females are more aloof, cat-like when it comes to physical interaction/affection. It depends on if/when they desire that kind of interaction. I learned this during my research and investigation period prior to deciding to get a Cane Corso. My male, loves, gives and seeks affection. He is an über “Velcro dog.”

  • @joywarriorspack

Its ABSURD. I actually read in Akitas for Dummies (or a similar title) that you should NEVER adopt a male adult Akita especially with females in the house. This book was published and in the local library.
So imagine my surprise pickachu face reading that book to my 5yr old male Akita that I rescued from an abusive home. He gave the very typical Akita face of, 😑
He also became my Service Dog- the best behaved by every store employee and manager. They'd say "now that's a REAL service dog!"
He passed July 2023 at 13 with a bite record of 0, fight record of 0, and a bark record of 3 the entire 8 years I had him 😂

20 seconds in and I have a response (it may change but knowing y'all's video it probably won't). I don't think size matters as long as you are able to control your dog. Growing up, my family had a doberman. Best boy ever (we lost him to cancer when he was about 3-4). I was about 8 or 10 when we got him and would regularly take him for walks. He was much stronger than I was, and he weighed more than me. He could've taken me out at any point had he wanted to. He didn't. He had gone through a good bit of training (as obviously my parents weren't going to not train him and leave him with young kids), and he saw us as his people. He would never hurt a fly unless it came to protecting one of us. I very much feel that the size of the dog/human does not matter as long as the dog is well trained. I've seen 80 pound women tugging along with a cane corso sized dog with no issues. I've seen 200+ pound men fight to get a Chihuahua under control. It's not the dog/person as much as it is the training in my opinion
Edit to add: my sister is in her 20s and weighs maybe 120 pounds soaking wet, if that. She has a lab who's gone on a little bit of a diet, but at one point weighed about 100-110. He's a thick and strong boy. He's also incredibly well trained. We could leave him and my parents doodle (who weighs about 50-60 pounds and is a string bean) unsupervised with my 8 months old nephew and not have to worry about either of them hurting him. Worst they would do is accidentally step on him. We don't leave them with him unsupervised for that exact reason, but if dogs are well trained, you should have no issues with them (most of the time, I will admit sometimes no matter how good your dog is or well trained, there is always something that could set them off, I see them the same as people. People can be great but no matter how great they are, there is always at least one thing that will bother them or maybe they're having a bad day ie sick or hurt, and something that's normally not an issue will become an issue that singular time)

It's not a war dog now, it's a family dog. I'm Belgian, we think different about some of these breeds (Cana Corso, Malinois, Bouvier, Tervuren, all Belgian shepherds..). The Malinois is the most popular family dog over here with people that live out in the countryside. And no, that are not the EU-USA-sporting-policing bred lines, those are not family dogs (any more). I'm talking about our typical 'courtyard' bred Malinois, they are excellent loving family dogs. As are Corso's in Italy. They are great in their home, and sure they guard it for real, don't climb the fence... As all dogs, they all need exercises, rules, training and clear boundaries.
-> I agree positive-only will get you in trouble with all of them. Certainly in puberty, you will have to put your foot down sometimes. Thank you for the videos

I would never get a guard type of dog because I’m clueless w/ training. Another factor, when choosing a dog is, I’m 107 lbs and 5’1… so yeah.
I adopted a small puppy a couple yrs ago & the rescue said… he’d be, no more than 45 lbs… well, they lied! He’s a huge black dog and weighs 96lbs!!
He’s incredibly protective and looks intimidating… so, I’m able to walk alone at night. (something, I’d given up years ago because my town is starting to get too dangerous)
If someone is walking towards us, he automatically walks alongside like a well trained heeled dog, getting between me and the stranger. Wish, I could take credit for it, but I never taught him how to heel.😏. Even though, I have zero clue how to train a dog, with him being so smart… he makes himself looked like a well trained dog. Feel like the universe had a hand in picking him, living alone in a house can get a little scary.

Gender, size, or race does not matter when it comes to an Cane Corso or any breed of dog. It’s the heart and dedication plus the responsibility of the owner to raise a well-balanced dog that is trained properly with lots of love and in return the owner of the dog, receives that dogs, love and loyalty to the end.
I grew up all my life with man stopper dogs and even as a child when I spoke to my father, grandfather, plus uncles dogs they listen and obeyed us the children and grandchildren because our extended K9 dog family members understood the order/ranking of the family.

It doesn't matter if you're a woman or a man. A dogs just needs proper training love and care. I have 3 Great Dane half breeds and a Chihuahua. All 4 dogs eat and drink from the same bowls. There are 2 males and 2 females in my pack. We all walk together. And go to parks together. Training and love is what makes the difference. The dogs also watch how you act and behave too. So total awareness is best.

You have to be firm and follow through with what you're asking of them. They're so smart it doesn't take too much for them to understand what you want. Also agree with what you said about raising your dog. So important. Great video. Love to the whole fam!

My mom is in her 80's and loves her giant schnauzers. That being said, she's obviously not part of the picture if something goes wrong and physicality is required. So it's not cut and dried. If my mom lived in a crowded retirement community that dog would be wildly inappropriate (irresponsible even) but out in the woods he's a crucial aid. He's phenomenally trained btw, very steady, but it's not about that. A dog could attack him, or he could "identify" a threat in an emergency etc..
I didn't like the commenters tone on that vid either, but there is also an expectation that any owner can either control their animal or force avoidance of dangers. This is why people don't just bring horses wherever. Where you are just wrong is saying that dog could kill you btw. I mean sure, if you don't try, but I've been attacked in earnest (at 16 btw) and trust me it only lasts seconds. I wasn't even full sized myself yet and that 100lb plus dog was bouncing off park picnic benches while i just had a few holes in my arm (still visible) that didn't even bleed for 15 min.

Gender and size don't matter as long as you do training and continue to train for the life of the dog. If the human is small or doesn't have a lot of strength, you have to adjust and work on it... might need help from a professional trainer (and not a positive only trainer ... they are missing key components of working with difficult behaviors).

It's funny that people think that a man of any size think that they can out muscle a cane corso of they decide they want something. Its how you live with your dog. It's how you manage your dog
But i have to disagree on the male vs female thing. I used to like male dogs, but my first female dog, who is a cane corso, changed my mind. Female corsos have protective and nurturing instincts, and it's honestly beautiful. My second corso will be ready end of January and i chose another female

Well if something goes wrong a 200lbs man is much more capable to deal with it than a 120lbs woman, that's pretty undeniable. Theres alot more to positive training then giving treats. Positive training really just involves using more intelligent and creative methods than hitting/scaring/punishing your dog. Victoria Stillwell is an excellent example. In many of her videos she discusses the switch towards positive training and why its more successful.. a scared dog is not a safe dog. Your dog shouldnt fear you, it should feel safe and confident with you. As far as dog daddy, its unfair to say people are "taking certain clips" to judge him when literally the ONLY clips he provides are of him yanking and swinging the dog around by his collar. Dozens of professional trainers with years of experience have spoken out against this, check out Zak George for some excellent videos on it. PS, your dogs are beautiful and obviously whatever works for you, just sharing my thoughts.

Corso are like horses..a strong farm girl can handle a intimidating stuborn stallion. But the average women( or man) off the streets dosent have the confidence and pack leadership mind set ,to have the alpha corso trust and follow their lead...most of my communication with my corso are gestures and eye contact. Never ask your dog to obey.
Never scream or hit your dog.
Real alpha leaders dont have to do those type of corrections
