I like the choil on my 6.5 because it shifts the balance point to the middle of your hand, so it's easier to get control for feather-sticks or other small tasks. But then you still have the rear hold for chopping or batoning. But to each their own
Thanks for this excellent comparison between the two. I'd probably pick the 5.5 personally as I like its design better. 👍Thanks for sharing, take care and Cheers!
Well put, the Jack's of all trades are the masters of none. But if you can have only one, they're the best. I have that in mind while I collect more fixed blades. Than you for pushing me back on that path. Pocket knives have been my sole focus for the last half decade.
Going out to do some bushcrat campingfor a few nights, in my opinion is a big choper and a 3 to 4 inch scandi grind knife is a must. The choper to do heavy work. Choping & splitting fire wood, builind shelter etc. And small true bushcraft knife for making feather sticks traps, triggers etc. And for food prep. A 5 to 6 inch blade can do all the tasks but not great. But for going on a all day hike and not spending the night in the woods, then ether one in this video is perfect. And i do have the Architect 5.5.
Hey there Mr. Feathersticker....LOL....I really like that traditional blade shape and looks very comfortable and useable for many chores....Good stuff....
I’ve done a few day hikes with the AK 5.5. The time’s I wanted to build a fire I was wishing I had a larger thicker blade. The 6.5 size is about the minimum size I want to go on an overnight or longer trip. If I’m Jeep/Truck Camp’n...I’ll have more blades than Lay’s has Potato Chips...
I like the big choppies, and more mid sized... Short just doesn't do it for me... whelp, this went south for me real quick, I'm going to stop while I'm ahead, or at least mostly..
Love everything about this knife except the skeletonized handle. I’ll stick with my esses until they offer a solid handle. I’ve seen so many breaks at that point. I could care less about knife balance give me a solid handle.
Maybe try a 17-18 edge angle on that 6.5. I am sure the steel can take it, I was able to put a 17.5 degree on a Busse Team Gemini Light Brigade and it did alright with that edge angle.
Initially I just want a mid size survival knife for camping, soon I have ak5. 5 in s35vn, ak6. 5 in magnacut, ak8 in magnacut, lionsteel t6.... I must stop watching those channels😢
@@peterbiltknifeguy I'm going to go watch them right now. My new knife sharpening system showed up yesterday. Ketiped is the maker. More robust than ruxinpro. My ruxin pro had to be modified for pocket knives. Lasted two years.
you know who uses knives all day, including lots of "getting in there"? Butchers and chefs. Have you EVER seen a butchers or chefs knife with a finger choil? Nope, because those folks aren't going to risk their fingers for a stupid fashion. I got PLENTY of blade cuts from X-Acto knives when I was a kid building models, I don't need anymore. I agree with you on the 5.5 over the 6.5. If the 6.5 did NOT have a finger choil, AND it was made with the thinner blade stock of the 5.5, I'd be all over it.
I got the 4.5 in Magnacut a couple of days ago, think you'd really, really like it. Just the perfect size and geometry.

I’m sorry lol.
Do you think the 6.5 makes a better ‘survival’ knife? Combine that with a 3.5+ inch heavy duty folder and could be a good combination.
Absolutely
sweet thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Dude. I love the 5.5.
Same

Really great knife

Is Tops still manufacturing these blades?
@@hiddycreech I believe just the 1095 versions

I have noticed that the colder or farther from civilization I get...the Bigger my knife tends to get...
😂👍 love it
@@dlrmon1 yeah. I love them big in general.
I would have to go for the 5.5 for sure. That’s more of what I would want in a EDC fixie. I would like to check their stuff out soon!👊🔥🔥🔥🔪🇺🇸

I love CPM3v. And for 220 bucks thats very reasonable for what you get. I'd probably get the 5.5 and still bring a chopper. ✌🏼
Heck yeah

I will definitely play around with it. But you can’t put the steel back. So I’ll start a little higher lol
Nice pair! Just got my 5.5 in 3v yesterday how's that 16 degree edge holding up i wanna lay it down like yours
It holds up great. Holds up better after I put a 20° micro bevel on it after thinning it out
@@peterbiltknifeguy hells yeah thanks brother 👊
I need to get an architect 5.5
Yes
I have one in 1095. Really good knife. Wish it had CPM 3V steel. But it wasn't available at that time.

Lol
I prefer the 6.5 in MagnaCut steel.
I like both of those blades if I had the funds I would purchase one . I’m so bored with the dam mora bc black
I do alot of bushcraft so I would go with the 5.5 , just keep working at it. anyone can learn to feather stick :)
If I was a bushcrafter I would. Lol
Will you be doing sharpening videos?
Nobody watches the sharpening videos I already have lol

If you look under my playlists one is a sharpening one. But no real tutorials
