Oh yea didn't spot that it was using the same default system font! Ha! Guess there was no need to mess around doing a new font... this game does NOT mess around generally though!!
Being that i used to be a Sensei (instructor as well as a student) in karate myself i always found this games very likable they present proper fighting moves an their names always like them😊😊 This i had loved this one also liked very much that Internation karate plus one i had on that was piblished by the Hit Squad. The look of this an that building the like the temple an statues so art direction very nice so very well done on Amstrad 💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎
Great listen, always love the tunes as well. I never knew about the obscure 'Fist+' for Amstrad? Do you want to have the sequel history complicated even further?? Way of the exploding fist was released in the US for the C64 only as a game called "Kung-Fu The Way Of The Exploding Fist". No harm done there? It had a sequel though called "Kung-Fu II Sticks Of Death". You'll see that Kung Fu II is in fact just Fighting Warrior! This must have been a shock for US fans of Fist expecting Fist II as we know...poor bairns :(
"and with that crouch you can do a little crouch punch"... The name of the game is The Way of The Exploding Fist - and that actual move is what you described as a little crouch punch 😮💨 Learning all the moves would have helped you, after flipping past don't flip back, use the turn jab or turn knee kick move - jab is quicker but kick has more range if you jumped too far.
Not at all! It depends on my mood - IK+ is more manic and fast paced. Fist is more measured and chilled out ... so yea really depends on my mood and what pace of game I want to play :)
The first game I bought for my 464 after having played the pack-in games to death... and so I played this one to death too. Maybe it's nostalgia but while the C=64 version is obviously better I still prefer the CPC incarnation - I think because it's a bit more of a chilled game to play... sometimes you can have too much SID.
looks like some kind of rock-paper-scissors, you have mentioned this game at review of barbarian, i understand that they use same control scheme, but as a game i would prefer barbarian with broken rolling
This is more a tactical game, because one direct hit and that bout is over. So you either go in aggressive and make the first move if your distance/timing is right, or you wait for your opponent to move and counter it. I suppose Barbarian is similar but it goes faster and takes multiple hits - so you have to think faster in Barbarian, but think smarter in WOTEF.... depends what you prefer....
If I remember, Melbourne House nearly got sued back to the stone age by the makers of Karate Champ over this game. If you ask me, they should've been sued for mental torture due to the music for their game 'Fighting Warrior'...
That was Epyx being sued over International Karate by Data East for it's similarities to Karate Champ - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Karate Karate Champ did get their first (1984), with TWOTEF next (1985) ... but Melbourne House stayed out of it because they could have jumped in on Epyx but they themselves could have been actionable by Data East too...
Not sure on who was sueing who but yep karate champ was 1st with backward movement for block (streetfighter reference) and also featured the bull to punch and dodging plantpots for bonus levels. The bull was on title screen chasing characters as I remember it. Featured speech and had twin joysticks for moves and no buttons - great game. 👍
It was Data East suing Epyx ... but I had no idea it had the 'punching the bull' subgame ... Exploding Fist on the C64 then directly ripped that off!! How naughty.
Excellent game. And you have to love those that kept the BASIC font.
Oh yea didn't spot that it was using the same default system font! Ha! Guess there was no need to mess around doing a new font... this game does NOT mess around generally though!!
Great vid mate. My favourite fighting game on the CPC. Amazing that it wasn't really bettered being such an early release.
Thanks for this one , a true classic and one of my all time favourites 👍 .... also 3:33 oh so sweet 😀
My pleasure dude! And oh yes... the satisfaction when you pull off that roundhouse kick!!
Loved it as a kid
great review many thanks xyphoe.
Thank you mate! My pleasure! :)
Had this for the Speccy but never seen the Amstard version before. Looks good.
Loved this on the C64. Amazing how many moves they crammed into a one button joystick!
From what I've tried the CPC version plays the same as the C64 :) Nice that it was good across all systems :)
Loved this still play it now
Ditto! A big huge ditto from me. But can't decide if I prefer this or IK+ - it depends on the mood!
@@Xyphoe i bought this bitd so nostalgia dictates this is better for me

i had this game for the amstrad green screen back in the day.
Apparently one of the highest selling Amstrad games too!
Thanks @AMJH 4LAH! Nice to see you commenting on a lot of my vids and popping into the Amstream on Friday!
I love Exploding Fist...and i dont know if you saw on your FB that this is the only Amstrad game i actually own lol...
We need to sort that out mate! Free copy of Bridge-It coming your way as soon as you send me your address.... ;)
@@Xyphoe ......Erm....I'll make do with my Exploding Fist lol
Was there only the one background because I remember the Spectrum having 3 different backgrounds and I think the C64 did as well?
It's a nice version of the game. Unfortunately Fist II and Fist + weren't released.
No fist explode, I feel lied to. But yes looks a cool game for sure, one of the better fighters on the ole 'strad'.
Although it may sound awkward, I prefer this to ik+

Don't you mean street fighter used the way of the exploding fist system?
I also prefer WOTEF over the IK games! A remarkable game for its time and decent versions on all the main 8-bits.
Yep! No sign of a stinker of a conversion anywhere! CLASSIC!
@@Xyphoe Entirely agree :)
