How do we know that the Dead Sea Scrolls reliable? They had the apocrypha in them as well.
Yes. The apocrypha was part of the Bible that the apostles used, but it was not held in the same high regard as the books of Moses, the books of Wisdom, the books of the Prophets etc. There are historical lessons we can learn from the apocrypha, without taking any spiritual instruction from them.

It is not just that the Jewish Essene scribes 'had their favorite' books--some books in the Old Testament/Torah are absolutely essential to Jewish life--and those books would have taken precedence, because they were trying to preserve forever the laws that the Jews lived by (ie Deuteronomy is essential because it describes all of the laws that the Jews were given to live by; and Isaiah is essential because he is the prophet that describes the coming of the new Jewish Messiah and what that person will look like/behave like/live like--this is how the Jews were to recognize their coming Messiah). dts/usa
3:50 Incorrect, not the "oldest form of Scripture discovered". Scripture has been found on two silver rolls that predate this, and we don't know how old Ezekiel's book on stone tablets is, but we can know that the 4 books of Moses and the original 10 Commandment tablets found with the Ark of the Covenant in 1982 predate all of these. Also, the Ark of the Covenant is the greatest discovery all time, not the DSSs.
