I'm watching this video and coincidentally, yesterday arrived a book I ordered, Notes From the Cockpit A Mountain Flyer's Perspective. R.K. Dick Williams tells many stories about these Idaho strips including Johnson Creek, Thomas Creek, and Big Creek. I am already thoroughly immersed in the book, it is that good. On the chart in the video, at the 21:52 mark, are other strips; Taylor, Bernard, Flying B, Lower Loon, and Mahoney. These strips figure prominently in the book, with multiple stories for each. For example, Thomas Creek has sixteen entries in the index. What is cool is to read these riveting stories and then, thanks to Rich, be able to see the strips themselves from a pilot's point of view in a professional quality production. Thanks, Rich.
Fun video to watch. I love the Idaho backcountry airstrips. The last place at Ryan looked so fun with all of you and the cooking at the shelter. Thanks for sharing.
I had a 172 for a couple of years. A good airplane, only had one or two minor repairs. But after a few months it got a little boring . When I noticed It was easier, cheaper, and quite often faster to jump in the car and go somewhere, the little 172 began to collect dust. The people I sold it to kept it longer than I did, but it sat and collected dust longer . I think talking to the friends I made in our EAA was more fun than flying. That was back in the nineties. Right now I'm building a single seat plane from a set of plans I bought for twenty bucks. Dont make much sense, but I like it.
Great video man. Inspired me so much that I went online and bought an airplane. RANS S-7 Courier. Yahooo! Beautiful nature here we go! I will not live in fear! There is a peaceful, healthy, and abundant world right at our reach. Cheers.
I made it out with a group to Utah for the first time in October. Absolutely beautiful. We did Fry Canyon, and had lunch at Gateway, CO. So much fun, especially with 6 airplanes in total. I hope to meet up with you sometime, Rich.
Can't believe I sat through the whole 42 minutes but it just kept getting better and better; sure enough, right there at the end, onions and MEAT. You shoulda lead with the MEAT ! The rainbow was nice too.
Rich, I really enjoyed you video. Steaks at Ryan field brought back great memories of an RAF fly-in years ago. Also, thank you for subscribing to my channel. Best Regards from Florida, Wayne Whitley
Thanks for the kind words Wayne. I really like your editing style and look forward to more of your videos. That night at Ryan was a really special night. We were at the end of our trip, the meal was great, the company was great. Even the rain had a rainbow across the mountains for us. Sometimes a plan just comes together...
I had a hard day at the end of a hard week towards the end of a hard career.. I saw your video and just sighed. I now plan to retire, cross the Atlantic, get my licence in the USA or Canada and a bush aeroplane and just fly and make cornbread all the way from Alaska to Tierra Del Fuego.
Messages like this make my day. I ran into a guy at Johnson Creek a few years ago that recognized my plane and said, "Hey! I know you! Your videos are why I'm here!" Thanks for the feedback and I'll look forward to running into you in Idaho when you extract yourself from the responsibilities of having a job!
Yah... that was super cool!! I was wondering how you swung your arms so perfectly while walking backwards. I did a double take and watched it a few times.... I was like, wait... was that airplane going backwards!! Clever Rich!!
I like it also, but I have no idea. 😂 I use music from artlist.io so that the channel doesn't get copyright strikes. So it was from there, but I don't have the original project files on this laptop to look it up for you.
I really enjoyed the video. I fly out of Renton Wa in a Husky. It would be great if you could give us a date of your video so we can compare conditions weather wise.. Also it would be nice if you could include the airport identifier Great Job. extrapilot
This video was taken during the first and second weeks of June. I would say that was too late to be in Utah (too hot), and perfect for Idaho (moderate temps and not yet crowded with summertime aviators).
@@RichWellner Too bad I live on another side of the country (east coast), I would fly with you guys. Always watching bush-plane pilots having fun. It's is amazing to know so you can jump in your own plane, and couple hours later landed in beautiful backcountry places. Very nice videos.
I use a variety. Gopros, DJI, Canon. It's rarely the camera. It's usually the person pointing it. Use what you have and learn to use it well! You could be the next oscar winner! Glad you liked it!

Gee. What a good, no drama video. I’m subscribing.
Great video. Just what I needed today.
One of the best videos made for the flying community. Thx man

Beautiful video! I am starting to plan the summer aerocampimg season in Europe and getting some inspiration from your clips!
Love it. I've only flown in Germany, gliders near Nuremberg, so haven't gotten to do anything like that over there. Hope you have a blast.
Thank you for sharing. Cavannah and Sullivan are in my backyard. Great places to fly.
Well done video. Thanks for putting together

Where is the last place you were? Think I found it. 2MT1
I’m a Maule driver based out of KOGD and 66v. Let me know when you are in the area next time
That would be cool!
Wow, this is so beautiful.
Thank you so much!

Create video; thanks for sharing. Question: What time of year was that?
Rick Hiebert first couple weeks of June.
What aircraft is that? Love your vids!
Maule My-235C. And thanks!
Rich what cameras are you using? Third time I have watched this.
