    I am 18 and my generation missed the le male phase. I went to Macy’s and sprayed le male on my wrist and asked a girl what she thought, and she absolutely loved it. I think that with all the new coming fragrances smelling exactly the same, le male might appeal to the younger generation because it is completely different to what is out there, and smells great.

      Le male? Yes! For me and many women its still relevant.
      Why explorer is more relevant than le male? Its Aventus Clone and Most People says that aventus (explorer also) is overdated and to earthy boring.
      Le male still wins!

    Reformulations in the fragrance world usually do end up in an "inferior" product. It's almost always weaker and often destroys the scent.
    With this, I think they knew this was no longer a clubbing fragrance but so many people grew up with this, making it more "office friendly" would preserve the life of this.

    • @matthewjackson9615
      @matthewjackson9615 3 роки тому

      I have my doubts about this fragrance working in an office setting, hands down this is a clubbing fragrance. I don't know why they reformulate fragrances though, it's as though a fragrance is retired from service and put out to pasture.

    I am really suprised that you did not mention the fact that Le Male used to be a beast performer back in the 90s. As big a performer as i have come across in my time. To put it into some sort of context. Back in the 90s, i used to wear Le Male to go out pubbing and Clubbing. Bear in mind, these pubs and clubs were FULL of smokers back then. But, id come home after a night out, go to sleep, wake up rough, and still be able to smell le male on myself and my clothes, right up until about 6pm, when i would go jump in the shower to get ready for work. It really was a monster performer. NOW, when i put it on, im lucky if i can still detect the frag after about 1-2 hours.

    I really like this particular format George. With the background you’ve had in the industry I think you should definitely continue these “Relevancy” vids. I’ve only just recently bought a bottle, for a low price I might add, and I’m really enjoying Le Male.

    All these years gone by and its still my Mrs Fav, must admit, its always been my no .1 Even though its obviously dated now, I still think it knocks Eros and Explorer for Six, It just smells better, lasts longer and projects like a beast...a totally timeless classic!

    I will also add, if someone is looking for a clone of what Le Male used to be 10 years ago, then here it is. Milton Lloyd Bondage Homme. It's extremely close with the longevity and projection. Smells almost identical according to reviews on Fragrantica.

    Imo in a very iris dominated “masculine” fragrance world the powderyness of Le Male feels very comfortable. It’s extremely wearable and it just puts a smile on my face. Performance has gone down but it does still smell amazing. Big fan of this masterpiece. Francis Kurkdjian’s must be so proud

    I remember my ex buying me a bottle when it originally came out, was quite groundbreaking at the time, kinda set the foundation for my own taste in fragrance as I absolutely love barbershop style fougeres. I do remember the original being stronger and also purchasing a replacement bottle a few years later and being disappointed as it had changed, something was missing, didnt know about reformulations back then. Had a 200ml bottle around 3 years ago and burnt through it really quick, I'm heavy on the sprayer, haven't felt the need to buy again. For me Azzaro pour homme does it better.

      Based on what I've heard, Ultra Male is the special occasion/night club alternative to the daily wearer Le Male. So I would say, if you like the overall basis of Ultra Male, and are interested in something to spray and go, Le Male is your best bet.

    George your bloody brilliant! Love your passion... ok. Le Male is a fragrance that got me back in to fragrances 20 years after finishing my vintage bottle of Fahrenheit. Le Male is by far the top 5 fragrances on the planet. Debatable, I know, but you are right that it somewhat does not have a place anymore... for now. I think reformulation has caused classics to die off. Imagine all of the great classics, in all of their beauty never changing due to consumerism or otherwise, still smelling and performing as they used too. (Very few do today). It may be the reason why there are so many players in the marketplace right now. Wear what you love.

    I absolutely loved the bottle my stepdad handed down to me around year 2000. I used 3/4 of it quickly. Then it took the back seat to whatever else I had at the time. I found that same bottle few years ago and used the rest. It still smelled like it did around year 2000, good shelf life. I sniffed a current bottle at Macy’s the other day. I though it smelled different compared to my old bottle. I was ordering Explorer online and needed to spend a couple more dollars to get free shipping so I added a 1.4oz bottle of Le Male. I wanted it for old times sake. I suppose we’ll see if it’s still got it after the reformations. Either way I don’t care since we’re moving into warmer weather. I’ve always considered it a little to sweet to wear in the high heat. Its not something I envision myself wearing on summer days. It’s much better suited for evenings or mild temps in my opinion.

There's too many , aquatic, peppery ,ambroxan, and sweet fragrance's on the market these days, I guess there main focus is for the younger crowd.

    I wish someone would explain why these products get reformulated and are rarely ever as good as the original.
    This is a perfect example. My first bottle in the early 2000’s was much more potent and I liked it a lot. The reincarnation is good but not great.

    • @r3sianon975
      @r3sianon975 3 роки тому

      Sometimes it becomes diluted for revenue. Less raw substances and/or materials used in batches because they have become much more expensive.
      Sometimes materials get banned because new research shows an issue with that material for some people with a skin condition, etc.
      So the perfumer has to reformulate and capture the smell again with other materials, but typically there’s a trade off between longevity and projection. Expensive to have both.

    Another thoughtful take, George. I rocked Le Male in the early noughties and even then it was overplayed. Back in 1995 the bottle, the advert and that fresh scent with a sweet vanilla drydown - like a subversion of a barbershop fragrance - must have seemed really "out there", camp and a world away in concept & marketing from the masculine 80s powerhouse scents. I like how you point out the direct line of descent from Le Male to Versace Eros. But it's hard to find a use case for the original now - it's not office appropriate and too out-of-style for a date or clubbing scent.

    I don’t get what all the reformulation fuss is about. I’ve owned a 2009 bottle and just picked one up today in 2022. There is a slightly noticeable difference on top, and it may dry down a hair faster. It’s a bit more creamy, not as much contrast. But it’s still Le Male 🤷‍♂️
    This is something that I’ll spray on after a shower, if I’m just staying in the house for the day. It’s still incredibly delightful; distinct from the citrus and sugar monsters of today. I’m saying goodbye to my 20s, and I’m married, so I’m not exactly attention seeking with what I wear. If my wife likes it, it’s a bonus.

    Who cares if it’s trendy or not. What matters if you like wearing it and how it makes you feel. Ironically I used to love Sean Paul Gaultier II Unisex. That was my jam. I always got compliments from women (tho I’m gay), that I smelled really nice. Now it’s discontinued. I’m not very fond of citrus. I actually love vanilla and lavender, and in general sweet, woody, musky, heavy in your face scents. I forgot I had a bottle of Le Male. I never really liked it. Dunno, but smells synthetic to me. Not sure if it’s the lavender or the vanilla🤷🏾‍♀️ Or maybe because it’s old, and I’ve never worn it.

    Since Le Male was often seen as quite a metro scent, with the ongoing rise of the LGBTQ+ community, I wonder if it isn't more relevant now than ever? Personally, I've always considered it the antithesis of ADG and forever his flamboyant brother. So as long as that is one is relevant and nostalgia survives, so too does the bulging torso. 😄😄 Leaf over the balls be damned. 🍁

      Rich Mitch eBay. Make sure they have a picture of the label on the bottom of the bottle and that it says it was made by “Cosmair.” It can say EDT or Cologne....they are both the same concentration. Mine smell great. I bit of a harsh opening but then it is niche quality and magical. They have real oakmoss as well in that formulation. Don’t get vintage made by “Warner.” That formulation is older, but the Cosmair smells better. It will fill the room with three sprays. Beast.

    Num banheiro inteiramente branco e limpo, um homem toma banho na ducha quente, onde o chuveiro projeta seu vapor ao toque da água quente na cerâmica fria do piso. Ele ensaboa-se inteiramente e uma camada aveludada de uma espessa espuma alva forma-se em seu corpo. Tem os pelos alinhados sobre sua pele, esticada pelos músculos retesados no trabalho de ensaboar todos os homizios cantos. A barra de sabonete que ele segura com sua mão forte tem um odor de lavanda e baunilha; adocicado e ao mesmo tempo fresco, como brisas de hortelã, flores de laranjeira e cardamomo, junto também ao doce da fava tonka. No banheiro, tudo se mistura. O próprio odor do homem mescla-se com o da espuma, da água cálida e das mornas sensações embaixo do chuveiro que, mesmo com seu jato quente, traz frescor. Eis uma descrição para Le Male por Jean-Paul Gautier; um perfume apaixonante e saponáceo; ao mesmo tempo que traz uma gama de especiarias orientais, revela-se um verdadeiro marinheiro que navega só entre um mar de tantos outros que tentam segui-lo, mas não conseguem.
