  • We had Pioneer DJ product specialist Sami come down to The DJ Shop to give us a closer look at Pioneer DJ's latest Rekordbox controller, the DDJ-800. He also gave us a demo of all the great new features that this 2-channel controller has to offer.
    Designed for use with Rekordbox DJ performance software, which comes included, this controller inherits the same layout as the club-standard setup and is great for those that want a compact portable controller with many pro features. With a brand-new microphone feedback reducer, sound colour and beat FX section you have many creative tools at your disposable.
    We hope that you learn and take away some valuable tips from our in-depth overview. We also have this controller on demo in-store if you wish to come down and try for yourself.

    Being an old school Dj from 1975 here in the UK, I mainly play Soul and JazzFunk to a mature crowd, and even when playing deep house as an alternative I still wouldn't want to use all the key shift effects which you show @ 8:30 which is brilliant for children or those under 17, but come on people its sounds so corny, but if you like gimmicky noises that's fine, I currently own the Aero but its alongside my faithfull DJM3000 with the CMX 3000 players, what I would like to see from Pioneer is a controller which has 4 independant channels still with ReKordbox integration with a large touch screen similar to the Denon Prime4 but more importantly a high end preamp section similar to RANE or Allen & Heath making it more professional and get rid of the silly pads, if its essential to use pads then purchase an add on kit.
    Just a technical note, the best quality preamps are with tubes not IC's. I had many tube amplifiers in the late 60's it has a more open and faithful sound, always remember the source (preamp) has to be a pure absolutely distortion free signal otherwise feeding a very slightly bad signal into your sound system (which is being amplified many times) will definitely be noticeable.

      Since he's a Drum and Bass DJ, he is displaying the difference FX and pads for the DDJ 800 for those DJs who will use them. I'm a House DJ so I don't use pads or all the FX but it is good to know if I want to use them, they are available. I'm from the states and the standard DJ equipment is Pioneer. I don't know if any club, venue or festival will ever use Denon. The Prime 4 is an awesome equipment but I feel it is too much for a House DJ like myself. In addition, since it is not a club standard there is no point of purchasing it unless you are a mobile DJ.

    I have one of these now to get me through the lock down but I've owned a ddj 1000 and I will say what I said then, hardware effects sound way better than software. There is a distinct clarity from the ddj 1000 effects.

    Never thought they would come out with DDJ-800 in such a short period of time. But honestly I was expecting much cheaper, or may be slightly pricier than DDJ-400.
    Not worth $899, better go for DDJ-1000.

    I would buy a Serato version of this controller tomorrow, I have nothing against Rekordbox but I am very comfortable with Serato and seeing Pioneer have decided to produce the DDJ-1000SRT for Serato so why not produce an 800 version to give us a wider choice for what looks to be a fantastic controller even at the fairly high price point they have set it at.

  • @househeadspeakz

    The controller is nice but compare it with the 1000, I don't think so. Pioneer made the mistake by charging $899 for this until without a 2 USB plug in. If I want to have another DJ to do a tag set, you can't. The DDJ 800 to me is a cross from the DDJ 400 and the DDJ 1000. Again, the reason I would not purchase it is the price. The DDJ 1000 priced at $1199 usd. The DDJ 400 (which I use currently) price at $249 usd. See the difference? If they would have price it at $599, I would purchase it right away. Unless Pioneer lower the price, I am afraid this unit will not sell well. I rather wait and save up the $1200 for the DDJ 1000 for it will be the last controller needed for DJs like me to play out in clubs and festivals. I do like the fact the Pioneer are making controllers to mirror the club standard CDJs and mixer. It makes it easier to go and feel comfortable playing 2 Nexus 2 CDJs and 900 Nexus mixer. I do stress that Pioneer lower the price of the DDJ 800.

      Believe me they will after they start screwing up and they or DJs start complaining about the faults. Then when you buy it the ddj800(2) comes out. And the 1st one gets treated like its obsolete

    C'mon, another computer based device... Everyone else is leaving the computer out of the booth... You know what, by delaying and not delivering on what we DJ's need and ask for, for the first time since I got my CDJ-500's in 1994, and later every top model in every generation until the NXS2... I just sold my 2000 nexus's and ordered the Denon Prime 4. I've used the XDJ-RX and RX2 many times, but for me they don't have enough value. Now, as soon as I can, I will make a very thorough evaluation comparing the Prime 4 with my NXS2 setup. Now, at 50 and a full time DJ working for the largest DJ agency in Scandinavia where as a senior member other people tend to listen to what I say about anything DJ related. Certainly in this case as I'm known as a proper Pioneer Dj gear head. After my first 10 years on vinyl and the T1200's, I've used and introduced Pioneer DJ gear everywhere I've been playing, and until 2005-2006, Denon was the leading brand in every DJ booth in Sweden. Pioneer DJ used to be the brand that listened, and delivered... what happend? Greedy management with no understanding and too far from us real Dj's... What do YOU think my word will mean to other DJ's, and for the business of Pioneer DJ, if I actually favor the $1800 Prime before my $6800 NXS2 setup when i present that evaluation on UA-cam and other media? Time to focus on pro gear for pro DJ's again, before you lose it all. Remember NOKIA?

    • @househeadspeakz
      @househeadspeakz 5 років тому

      I hear and understand what you are saying but there's the thing. I live in the US and the equipment use at every club, radio station, festival and event is Pioneer. Now Denon has an awesome DJ equipment from their CDJs and mixer to their current stand alone controller Prime 4. The question is will club owners, radio station advisers, promoters and festival organizers will risk using a different DJ system. Well, as long as Pioneer rules the dancefloor in the US, I will have to say no.

      @@househeadspeakz It's the same here, and that's my point. When people like me, who's been in the game for decades, and has been the biggest supporters and advocats for Pioneer DJ gear since the start in 1994 are seriously considering to buy from another brand, or like me allready put an order in place. That's the signs that Pioneer has to step up to our expectations, or else... I don't get paid to switch brand. All i want is the best gear for me, and I've allready tested my external SSD's with 14 000 tracks, exported from Rekordbox, in the Denon SC5000's. No problem at all. I talk with people every day who are in charge of what to buy next for their DJ boths. Not only in Sweden. I'm known for telling facts, not just my opinion. At least not without real facts as base for that opinion.

    DDJ-400 in Canada $349, DDJ-800 is $1350 and DDJ-1000 $1749. An 800 is $1000 fucking bucks more than the 400....wtf?

    2:06 'We've changed this and we've put it at the top of the unit and for me it works at lot better and it's a lot more fluent when you're mixing'. What a load of crap. Toggling between 1-2 and 3-4 using a back-lit button is considerably more intuitive than a tiny switch. Pioneer made this, and other features, deliberately less ergonomic than on the DDJ-1000 or the CDJ-2000 to coax users into buying their more expensive gear. Pioneer keeps dishing out shit and people eat it.
