Oda Nobunaga got so pissed big time at the Ikko Ikki monks who had been a legit pain in his backside that he had decided to burn down Mt Hiei and kill everyone in there, regardless of age or gender And thus, Oda Nobunaga became the vile, infamous fellow called “The Demon King” who has slaughtered everyone in his desire to unite Japan under his banner
Well, to tell you the truth, you have elaborate all the reasonable points that I thought about the reboot nature of SW5 and why it's for Koei's best interest of the series' future to reimagine Oda Nobunaga and Akechi Mitsuhide to a younger generation of Musou fans. My only concern about the series from this point on is that in order to accommodate the changed persona of Nobunaga, everyone else had to be retconned and redesigned to fully put his life under the microscope. I wonder what's in store for the new Hideyoshi when the next installment arrives, and how much characters are going to be changed until beyond recognition to suit the now leader-centric Samurai Warriors games. Great video as always, Drake. Regardless of different opinions I have about other topics you discuss, I enjoyed your research work.
SW5 is good i love the direction they are going for, my problem is the limited weapons and that only Nobunaga and Mitsuhide age while the rest remain the same, also they killed off Noh pretty early instead of killing her off at Honnoji but i can look past that. one of the cool things about SW5 is the combat system, i started getting tired of the previous one then SW5 came and gave an almost similar combat system to recent dynasty warriors games, this means that KT and Team Ninja are likely planning on making Samurai Warriors' Gameplay more Dynasty Warriors like than what it was before. we will see what the future holds for SW series
I think what inspired the devs to make SW5 is oda focused storyline is because of how amazing the spirit of sanada really is. Hopefully they could expand more this kind of games to other part of the clan in the warring states
You make great points, but I do personally appreciate Nobunaga's demon-king persona. It's certainly better than Sengoku Basara's 'evil for the sake of being evil' Nobunaga. With Koei's portrayal, you always get a sense that Nobunaga is seeing something that nobody else is. Sure, that creates a very distant and unengagable being, but it almost feels like that's the point. He's supposed to feel like a force of nature that the other characters react to. He could stand to have some humanizing elements to him, but that almost disengages the mystery in itself. Honestly, Nobunaga's best portrayal probably remains in that of Nioh where he is portrayed as a powerful yet down to Earth figure. In Nioh, you feel his presence and power every time he's on screen, but he also his 'likes' and his enjoyments in life. His decision to spare Williams Adams in the first game is clearly explained rather than left up in the air like it does in SW.
this is one of the main reasons why i've been looking forward to this game. the historical figure is so very much interesting, there's more to him than what Takeda and other Buddhists called him and while demon king is a blast to play with(and being an entertaining character to boot), there's a ton of untapped stuff you can do with him, not to mention this is hardly the first time Koei has given us the Fool of Owari, its just the first time in Samurai Warriors, so i have good faith in them.
yep i love running around decimating enemies with Nobunaga wielding a fucking Odachi one of my favorite weapons of Japanese Culture and Imagawa is cool now too cause he is his historical counterpart now cause apparently he was a badass in real life. Nobunaga historically though was more like Hitler he was pretty damn brutal and what not the only good things he did was bring art and music to eastern shores which Toyotomi continued and what not, but Nobunaga also like Hitler was a coward and killed himself instead of facing his death like a warrior he claimed to be. that is one thing i like about the SW series Nobunaga just is totally nonchalant about it and accepts his fate
Well I know my friend has a LOT of hiccups he is not liking about 5 or that most people don't like the new redesigns for the characters and all of that, but no one really mentions the fact that Nobunaga was stagnant from 1 up to 4. Yeah now it makes no sense for why someone as honorable and loyal as Mitsuhide would work for a demon king like Nobunaga or why No is so much in love with him or Hideyoshi being super loyal to the man despite him being comic relief in the old games. Like looking back yeah they should have done this after 2 but at least they are doing this reboot now and so far, that can give Nobunaga an actual arc now that he is the main character. That said now I am imagining if SW3 would be a more stable game if that was SW5 and THAT we could get Spirit of Sanada for Yukimara somewhere down the road............maybe. Still soild work Drake!
well SW series was starting to get little repetitive by time Spirit of Sanada came i am sure, so KT decided to change things up a bit and do what they did with what they did with the DW games later in DW's Future. i cannot wait to see where they go with it now that SW5 is out
Unfortunately, changing Nobu's character caused a ripple effect for certain other characters. I mean, everyone's going to talk about Noh's lack of claws now, but also Hisahide. Hisahide was supposed to out-crazy Nobu, so when Nobu's character got more restrained, so did Hisahide's. No more crazy Spider-Man (pun intended) who sticks his tongue out.
From what it seems In the SW5 the demon King seems to be made into a Shounen hero stereotype..SOMETHING will later make him go more into Anti hero route though..maybe his family or a chld gets killed or something like that?
I really don't know why you can't fathom Nobu's and Mitsuhide's relationship in their original characterizations. It's basically just Japanese Caesar and Brutus, right?

They should look to Kessen 3 and follow that Nobunaga
yes

Kessen 3 or nobunaga ambition then you see a different side of nobunaga.
I'm very excited because this game might give me the Oda drama I wanted that Nioh 2 didn't provide
We just have to wait until the Massacre stage.. that's where he gain the title of Demon King no?
Yea after he burned dat Mountain with dem monks children he got dem titel demon king

@@danielcook7975 Trust me I know, I have friends who have been super vocal about the series lol.
