I had a Supertool that was in need of repair so I sent it in. It was four months shy of 25 years old. I received a letter stating that Leatherman no longer makes my model so they replaced it with a Supertool 300. Totally blindsided and amazed at this level of customer service and product backing.
That's awesome, I'm OCD about putting up and cleaning my tool, that being said I work pretty hard at what ever I'm doing and I carry my Wave on me ive lost it several times. So I commend you sir on keeping up with 1 for that long
I have a LM Surge bushcraft kit. Some extra saw blades, some long. I agree it is the best bushcraft kit. Maybe a slightly better blade steel. But that 420HC holds up ok. I like the ST300, too. It stays much cleaner on dusty outdoor use, because it is closed up. If I used an MT in a manual trade, one-hand opening pliers would be nice. But lots of smaller tools are crappy on SOG and Gerber, compared to Leatherman and Victorinox. My original ST is 22 years old, and still great. As is my 22 years old SwissTool. Truth be told, on a serious outdoor adventure I'd take the Surge kit, and an a 600 gram Hudson's Bay hatchet. Maybe a 130mm Victorinox Work Champ in a pack for delicate work, and emergency surgery. I over carry tools, and under carry food. Just basics there. But when I want to fiddle and whittle and play with wood, I like versatility. Maybe my Norwegian Helle forest knife. Served me 30 years. But if only one tool? Surge or ST.
I've been carrying a Wave forever the hybrid hex tool is invaluable when helping students moving their IKEA furniture, as long as it fit's in the truck they can figure out how it goes together again 🤣🤣🤣🤣
What makes you say it sucked? I’ve had one for a while now and it’s still rocking. Admittedly I like my Charge + and Surge better but I still keep my ST300 as backup because I know it’ll be there when stuff goes FUBAR
Surge is pretty nice, heavy as hell tho. I carry the super tool 300m it’s lighter and less bulky. Then I cary a slim victorinox 93m for explorer for scissors and other little tools that come in handy
The best way to use a Leatherman for survival is to leave it at home and buy a Swiss Army Ranger 78 or 79. That’s why Self Reliance Outfitter trainers all carry a SAK.
There are arena/applications those Wave shines over ST300 but there are also those ST300 beats Wave easily. ...pick what serves your situation best. It's not very clearly which is the "King" of Leatherman multitool among Surge/Wave/ST300. ...Rebar and Wingman fit my hand better haha
i carried rebar for years and it was perfect my daughter got me the wave for present now i use that but i look at my rebar just sitting there and i miss it i hate have doubles of things.i agree for survival i would choose that if i had none because its bigger i believe
Interesting questions. 1. What tools do you look for in an ideal bushcraft multitool and why? 2. What tools do you look for in an ideal survival multitool and why?
I will stick with my old Gerber Multi Tool. Easy to open and use one handed if needed. Okay, so it does not have a saw. But I always carry a saw, a small folding one, when I'm out in the woods. I also prefer the full sized pliers over the needle nosed ones. My Swiss Army Deluxe Tinker, has a very nice set of mini pliers. But each to their own. Um, thats not a saw, its a file.
the supertool 300 is the best LEATHERMAN for survival. i had one for quite awhile, it is a good tool. however, the victorinox SwissTool X is a much better tool, for survival / bushcraft. it has better quality tools, and a more versatile selection of tools, which are all relevant for wilderness tasks.
@@yeshua1176 At the Exchange on post i can get it for $72.95 tax fee but thats the cheapest I've seen it anywhere. I bet you can find one at a pawn shop for $40.00.
I own a victorinox Swisstool and the metal is really soft I barely pried open a box and the metal bent with very minimal amount of pressure but it’s a beautiful tool nonetheless,oh and I also own a Supertool 300 and rebar
Calling a $90 tool that can’t be disassembled cleaned and repaired in the field a survival multi-tool is stupid at best and moronic shilling at worst. Don’t listed to this guy. Avoid trusting your life to knives and tools that have low repairability and are hard to maintain. 25 year warranty is just a marketing catchphrase nothing more. You will die in the matter of hours or days not years.

Surge is the King. It feels great and solid in my big hand and I like the extra weight too.

I had a super tool and it was super sh!t! Went to go buy a wave and walked away with a surge instead and I’m glad I did!! Awesome bit of kit
Oh that's a bummer, though the Surge is definitely my Fav multi-tool of the bunch

Still 50 something on eBay all day everyday
I have been looking in pawnshops for a super tool 300, Rebar, or Surge because I am to worried about spending 50$ sight unseen on ebay
90$ is still cheap😂 Super Tool 300 in Poland its costs 150$

Love my ST300!
Bet
The wave by far the best been carrying every day for 10 years
I have found those who carry the Wave to be religious about it. But you are missing out.

Glad somebody said it ^ even in the yukon most travel is done by Bush planes aswell

Victorinox is shit because none of their models have replacebel wire cutters !
Plier heads are also small and dinky on them
