Well done Sir! I’ve carved a couple wood spoons, but I haven’t made a Kayak Spoon yet..... I might need to try that! Thanks for showing how you did it.
Thanks for the comment! Yeah, I like to take some of that Bob's oat bran and mix it with instant flavored oatmeal. It doesn't look great but it's pretty tasty - LOL.
@@fouroakscrafts7240 any advice for struggling power and knife carver? I’ve been whittling for some years but struggle getting past a creative block. Any tips or educational resources you know of? Sorry for the bother. I’ve just been obsessed with carving. Even whittle in living room while watching movie with wife. She hates the wood chips around the house. Not to mention I work clearing tree on electrical transmission lines. Thanks
Mighty fine craft I made mine with a hatchet and barlow pocket knife i also bake mine in oven for 9 mins old school way I prefure no modern electric tools used greetings from the uk 👍🇬🇧🐾🦊
Unfortunately I don't have a template on that spoon, but it's roughly 6inch long and bowl is about 1.5 inch wide and 2inch long. I wouldn't worry about getting it super exact. There might be some other websites out there that have a template. I'll see if I can add one. Have fun carving it. Thanks so much for the comment and question!
@@fouroakscrafts7240thanks, any advice on what grit sand paper to use? Going to try using a pebble as a burnishing stone and see how that goes. Excellent demo
@@anonymous4201 I believe I used 120 grit to 220 and then maybe 400 grit. I might have even used my micro mesh clothes that go up to 12000 grit, but that's probably overkill.
Yes, I like to use Flaxseed oil, but you could also use other types of oil. The Flaxseed oil is food safe but I allow it a little time to cure before using the spoon. This is the kind you can get at the health food store and it doesn't have any drying agents in it. I believe the oil just helps the coffee grinds get packed or seated into the cuts. Then the burnishing helps push the fibers back together and form a kind of seal for the coffee grinds. So mineral oil would probably also work.
Thanks for the comment! I put them on the strop every 20 - 30 minutes in a session. This dry cherry is just pretty dang hard to carve. May need to strop them a little more frequently when carving hardwood.
Awesome job.
Thanks for watching!

Thanks for sharing your gifts. Template available on your website? Have you power carved spoons and posted this process on UA-cam?

Hi, just discovered your channel and love this video. What chip knife are you using for the incision? Thanks
Thanks for watching! This is a chip knife made by Flexcut

What kind of saw are you using?
I'm using a Rikon bandsaw, but you could use other saws or a handsaw if you don't want to use a bandsaw.
Was that Flax seed oil you poured on before the coffee grounds? Why Flax Seed oil?

@@fouroakscrafts7240 Thanks very much. I like how you added a design instead of leaving it plain.
Nice design! You should try to sharpen your knives because the cuts you were making looked a bit difficult. Keep up the content!
