- I am back earlier than planned, with Melanie for The Frank Book Club… the one with the parrot, which as of next month will be moving to the Frank UA-cam page. The final one on my channel is a corker as we talk about Dara McAnulty’s amazing Diary of a Young Naturalist and get heckled by nature itself… Jazzy the Parrot, on the brilliant Word on the Water bookshop who were kind enough to host us. Enjoy and do let us know your thoughts on the book in the comments below. #TheFrankBookClub #BookClub #DiaryOfAYoungNaturalist

Definitely a ferocity of intelligence, is displayed here. The descriptions are, as you’ve said, magical, but also visceral for the reader. It is. Brilliant.
It is a phenomenal book.
I am catching up on your videos, and this one took me forever to watch because the beginning had me CRYING with laughter and I kept going back! This was exactly what I needed, thank you. ❤
Glad you enjoyed it so much. One of my funniest moments of 2021. Made me laugh for days.
What a marvelous discussion. I have just ordered the book. So much honesty and empathy from both of you I was moved to tears Thank you Super Simon and Magnificent. Melanie
I ordered the book partway through your delightful video. Can’t wait to read it!
That’s what I like to hear.
Made my day. Mel said she catches laughs and I am the same so I have been in stiches watching this. Will get around to your actual review. However, for now Im on rewind. Thanks both. Seriously made my day xx
So pleased it brought some joy to your day.
I agree this piece of writing is exquisite - he has an incredible talent.
He is indeed. I’m looking forward to his next book which I need to get my hands on.
Thank you. I definitely have to read this book now. Having 3 young kids and living in Melbourne where we have had such a long lockdown… I really want my kids to be more connected to nature (me included). This book as you both said sounds like medicine for the soul. Loved the intro… cracked me up 😂
So pleased you enjoyed it. The next book club is tomorrow. It’s another filled with book chat and laughter.
Delightful to see you both and enjoy your interaction with Jazzy. Interesting, book sounds insightful.
It is a fantastic book. And was so lovely to see Melanie and be introduced to Jazzy. I might be out of a gig cos of him.
I loved this book. I love the wainwright prize and this winning was just right. I loved Melanie's passion on this one and her comments outside of the book were spot on. Everything that was said was so right about this book. It was the best review of the book I've seen. I hope others read it and get something from it.
I must follow the Wainwright prize more diligently. I’m so pleased you enjoyed the video and Melanie’s thoughts.
I turn my phone off at weekends, I think it is important to see what we have not what others have
Thanks Simon and Melanie. I loved the book. In lockdown in Australia at the moment. Nature is one of the things keeping me going. How I’d love to visit a bookshop like that right now. Lovely video 😊
Nature I think kept me going quite a bit when I was shielding in lockdowns. Just seeing the garden wildlife brought me so much joy so I totally understand.
@@SavidgeReads 😊
I loved your descriptions of the poetic writing. I especially liked the term passion in regards to people with autism rather than using the term obsession with their interests. The book is a definite one on my list which I will share with others.
That’s all Dara, the poetic descriptions and using passion instead of obsession. He has really made me think and also sent me off to the local nature reserve at the weekend to watch seals.
Really enjoyed this one. First off, Jazzy is a STAR! Going to be hard to top this bookstore. Loved hearing Melanie talk about autism in her family. I have a few family members on the spectrum, all the way from nonverbal to just missing social cues. Definitely going to pick up this book.
Haven’t read any Ferranti. Looking forward to hearing what you both think.
Oh blimey I hadn’t thought how the next bookshop will have to compete with this one. That could be interesting. Maybe we will do the next one in the zoo. Hope you enjoy this book when you get to it.
Thanks for this video. My thoughts on the book, it’s writing and the subject matter entirely match both of yours. I also agree with you, Simon, about magpies… I think they’re gorgeous to look at but they bully one of our corgis really badly in the garden. They nip his bum and pull chunks of his fur out. 😢
Magpies are absolutely evil. Hahahaha. They bully Oscar all the time. The buggers. Glad you enjoyed the video and the book so much.
I was unsure about this one but now I really want to read it
I can’t recommend it enough.
Read Overstory if you haven't.
I have. I liked it. Not sure if Melanie has read it.
@@SavidgeReads I am glad you read it. My husband just read it along with my book group. One person in the group refused to read it. She also has cut down some of her forested land and now complains that other trees are now dying. We live in No. California Tahoe forest area so we have our forests burning around us. But to be honest she didn't read any books I picked. LOL
