Very cool looking handle. Now I know what to do with all those knives with broken handles I see at garage sales. Can't believe the Total Boat epoxy stuff holds the knife shank without any screws...very unique looking too! Nice job as always Mr Komar!!! Oh, and I especially loved the appearance of the judges!😊
Sooooo nice!! I have a little Wakizashi with rope wrapped wood.Full tang with brass hand guard and brass butt. I removed the rope and stained the wood (that took all of two minutes) and now I want to do PRECISELY THIS with a clear epoxy.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣I'm glad I stuck around till the end!!!!!! Oh bro!!! You made my day oh man very very creative with the judging!!! Have the real Doug Marcaida and Dave Baker and Will have seen this... If not they should! Right on man!!!
It's a boat epoxy should be able to use it in dishwasher. If it were me I'd do exactly what is done in this video except I'd put pins in before pouring the epoxy. It help hold the scales a little and would look pretty cool too. Also I wouldn't put it in dishwasher.
If you had done the pour with the knife in the vertical position rather than the Horizontal orientation you would have probably had a lot less if any bubbles. Nice job, loved the Judges Panel!
I tried that the first time. Just didn’t cure right and was soft. The pour was just to thick even with two pours. But great minds think alike brother lol.
I wonder how it would be doing this but instead of curing the epoxy with the blade, use epoxy “pins” or “dowels” that are slightly thinner than the holes in the blade and put them through while adding that total boat top pour gloss stuff to the pins so they are more likely to be clear to the rest of the scales if that makes sense
I think as someone who makes knife handles regularly the only thing I would have done differently would have been to preset some pins either clear acrylic or brass ,stainless steel anything you like really in the pin holes I think metal pins would be the best considering the type of torture that type of knife goes through.
Do you know if this type of handle would be able to withstand going through the dishwasher? I'm trying to replace the handle for some of my mother's kitchen knives. Thanks! Love the panel of judges, by the way!
You can. The issue with it is getting the casting done perfectly to fit the knife. I think if you cast it on one then shape it leave less room for error. Just my thoughts. Thanks for the great question
@@KomarProject I thought about using silicone sealant/caulk as a dip for a handle, similar to what people do with plasti dip and other liquid tool dips. Sounds more easy than the mold method. It might work, I wonder if it might be a bit too soft though.
Rowland Custom Woodworking - Phillip Rowland I think it was because I placed the knife on it and the bubbles didn’t have anywhere to escape. That’s my guess
It will Keel 😂 Please make a narrow width and long dagger with shiny matellic green Color.... Leaf green ....resin handle As the same (or somewhat Similar) was with my late dad.... I want to live that memory of my childhood again... When I was just 6 years old
How would you use Duct Tape as the main handle material? Like a leather wrap, like paracord, just roll it on and then fix it in place with something other than its stickyness?
ha ha. Love the judging panel! Cool knife handle too.
Thanks man. They did a great job !!
Love the judging panel ! ! ! ! Great video, cool handle! Thanks for the tip on getting the small bubbles out. Gotta try it.
Your very welcome !! Thanks for the support
I can see they are a chip off the old block 😀 Thanks for sharing your family with us. Nice project too.
Thanks so much GA. They love acting that’s for sure lol
lol love the "forged in fire " judges... and yes... "your knife will cut"... :)
Hahaha thanks so much. We had so much fun.
That's exactly what I want to do but with colors.... I finally found how to do it! THANK YOU!
That’s awesome. Good luck
Bro!!! Great job. Loved the judging panel. 🤣😂
Jason Roche they seam to be a hit lol 😂
Nothing better than sanding! 👀 😆 Nice forged in fire parody! 😁🎉
Thanks !!! Kids has fun with it
Ba-ba-boosh, Mr Komar!!! 😂
NerdLove Design 😂
I"ve gotten sick of epoxy woodworking videos, but this one is awesome!
Thanks Matt !!
Please lord give this guy more views and subs. Thanks bud for being you
Thanks brother !
K, the kids nailed it for ya. 👍😁
Haha we had so much fun
Nice finale lol. I'm definitely going to do the epoxy strategy instead if carving wooden handles. Thanks
Thanks man
Lol, love it man. Great work all around.
That was seriously awesome. It will Keel.
Hahaha it will killlll lol. Love it
The judges got it right!
why did you only pour the epoxy halfway up and wait for it to reach gel state to pour the rest? Why not just fully immerse the handle in one go?
That looks freaking sweet!
Patrick Nesbitt thanks Patrick!!!
the 3 judges are awesome -love it.....and your fruit killing skills are remarkable.
Ya I was surprised how strong the handle was too. So were the judges. They did so good lol
Sooooo nice!! I have a little Wakizashi with rope wrapped wood.Full tang with brass hand guard and brass butt. I removed the rope and stained the wood (that took all of two minutes) and now I want to do PRECISELY THIS with a clear epoxy.
Awesome man. Just make sure your steel is super clean. I must have had something on it cuz over time the epoxy turned a bit yellow.
Wow would I love something like that. Great job sir. God bless
Awesome clear handle, I love it
Thank you. It’s fun project but still should have made a mechanical connection
Since the epoxy is going thru the pin holes on the knife it actually makes a type of mechanical union. Awesome judges
I though that too Kurt. Just figured they were not brass or some other metal people may think it’s not a true connection.
This video deserves more views then this c'mon UA-cam
Thanks so much !!! Really appreciate that
lovely. i was thinking of making one like this but couldnt figure how. now i know. i am new to epoxy so i learned some valuable stuff from you thanks.
Glad I could help!
this is super cool, now i want to make those for my field knife
Love it, it made me 😂😂😂 keep it up
Thanks brother !!!! Appreciate it.

Doug has and he even commented on a Instagram post. Girls loved it
Awesome stuff Bart! 😁👌🏻🔪🍍🥥👍🏻👊🏻
Fred McIntyre thanks Fred. Hopefully get to see you in a couple of weeks
@@KomarProject would be great, but unfortunately I'm not going to make WorkbenchCon this year 🙁
Love the end made the video perfect. Like the knife definitely going to try this now
Haha ya the girls did a great job
Nice job on the handle and cracking video! Thank you so much! 😀
Dave Corns no, thank you!!!
Great video! Question: I have the same epoxy- is it dishwasher safe if I use it to make handles for chef knives? Thank you so much
That I’m not sure
You should never be putting good knives in a dishwasher.
It's a boat epoxy should be able to use it in dishwasher. If it were me I'd do exactly what is done in this video except I'd put pins in before pouring the epoxy. It help hold the scales a little and would look pretty cool too. Also I wouldn't put it in dishwasher.
Great looking knife! Awesome video 👊🏻
Branco Works thanks so much Branco!!
“your knife will keeel” 😂😂💀
Lol, thank you for a great video! Learned something and was highly entertained
Thanks Jay!!! That was one of my favorite videos to do. Kids had fun too
Nice man & good idea. This one I can make it by myself for sure, is not too difficult like wood bicycle or color pencils table. Thanks
By the way, why don't you finish all the ways to make a knife cover with the same material. So I can mimic how to make everything.
Hahaha ya totally can. You can make the bike too. Just takes a long time
Концовка в детьми просто супер🤣👍
This video is the best, great job!
Thanks so much brother !!
Awesome awesome 😍😍😍
Thanks Steven
I feel like I have seen those guys somewhere before 🤔, handle came out great 👍
Hahaha

Haaaa......haaaaa...lovely....cool epoxy handle ..love it
Love it!
nice,im going to try that, wil electro etch a some images on the tang then pour the resin
That will be very cool
Really cool man .
Cool stuff, cool video
Love it bro super cool 👍🏻🇬🇧
Excellent content brother 👍
Thanks Joey
I'm wondering....if I were to make the jig vertical, think I could pour different color epoxy? Like you did with the first half of the scales.
I tried the vertical and it didn’t work. Epoxy didn’t harden. It makes the form to big. So just go with flat
I think as someone who makes knife handles regularly the only thing I would have done differently would have been to preset some pins either clear acrylic or brass ,stainless steel anything you like really in the pin holes I think metal pins would be the best considering the type of torture that type of knife goes through.
Maybe just pieces of wire with loops on both ends would do the job.
Bro like always smashing my like botton from San Antonio tx kaboooooooooooooom very nice project
Moises Robles thanks Moises. I so appreciate your support !!
Judging Panel was the best!
Do you know if this type of handle would be able to withstand going through the dishwasher? I'm trying to replace the handle for some of my mother's kitchen knives. Thanks!
Love the panel of judges, by the way!
That I’m not sure of.
Judges are amaizing )
Might work for a knife handle. But not sure about machete or sword. Very nice 👍
Nice!
Thank you
Love it
Thanks so much DK!!
Can you make a mold of a knife handle and then cast that? What's the benefit of casting a rectangle and then carving/sanding down?
You can. The issue with it is getting the casting done perfectly to fit the knife. I think if you cast it on one then shape it leave less room for error. Just my thoughts. Thanks for the great question
@@KomarProject that makes sense! Thanks for your answer ☺️
How long did you let it set before taking apart?
that looks spectacular! I make resin scales/blocks and have never really considered just clear, but holy cow that looks good.
Thank you so much. It was a fun project
Any idea how to make a clear handle like this but one that’s softer and a bit elastic? (Kinda like rubber tpe or something.)
Ya there are silicone pours you can do. Not sure if that’s too flexible for you
@@KomarProject I thought about using silicone sealant/caulk as a dip for a handle, similar to what people do with plasti dip and other liquid tool dips. Sounds more easy than the mold method. It might work, I wonder if it might be a bit too soft though.
@@RobDyrdek713 it might be.
I have a knife I can not bore holes for pins, so it is important to see how this one holds up.
Why did one side have so many bubbles?
The judging panel was awesome. They did a great job!
Rowland Custom Woodworking - Phillip Rowland I think it was because I placed the knife on it and the bubbles didn’t have anywhere to escape. That’s my guess
You should have put pins in it when you poured it. That would have looked cool.
Great idea
Adorable
Thank you
Cool idea. Color pins would be cool before you poured the handle.
That would be really cool
It will Keel 😂

As the same (or somewhat Similar) was with my late dad.... I want to live that memory of my childhood again... When I was just 6 years old
Hilarious! Well done.
Thanks so much !!!!!
Why did you pour half of the handle and let set until sticky and then pour the other half?
Because I tried putting it all at once and it was just to thick of a pour to harden. So I did it in parts.
You could have put pins in then poured the epoxy, just a thought
That’s a great idea. Haven’t though of that but wish I did.
love it
Sidney Anderson thanks Sid!!
Can you drill through the epoxy without it cracking?
You can but you have to be very careful and go slow. Kinda like drilling in plexiglass
@@KomarProject
ThankQ!!
Let’s see a clear sheets
Nice job
Zino Orr that might be difficult but may be fun to try
How would you use Duct Tape as the main handle material?
Like a leather wrap, like paracord, just roll it on and then fix it in place with something other than its stickyness?
I’m not sure.
@@KomarProject lmao props for trying to reply to this
Pretty cool, looks like the product cost more than a handle is worth though.
Zajebisty pozdrawiam serdecznie🔪🔪🔪
Dziekuje bardzo!!!!
Why didn't you put all the raisin at once?
would be MUCH better if the tang was Damascus
I am going to do this to my Stiletto hammer
It will keeeel
Agreed on the "Dumb design"
didnt like the handle , but huge thumbs up for the judges !
Thanks so much !!
He needs to sand it better, and use the right buffer to actually clear up the handle
Not how you do this.
I’d just pour scales. Cooler with the pins.
😂❤
A color would have been nicer
Next time put something cool in the resin ,
