In DirectX12 and Vulkan, exceeding VRAM budget is fundamentally quite painful! Well technically it's application-dependent since applications could potentially take this into account better, but they won't, because that's too much work to get right. Not the case in DirectX9/10/11/OpenGL at all, where the texture storage is driver/system-managed and the textures are generally RAM-backed, so you can get partial swapping of the per-frame texture pool without readbacks.

-Buys video card with extreme air cooler on it. -Removes air cooler. -Replaces with water cooling block. Noise problem solved & made extreme air cooler redundant.
This cooler design has a surprising perk: you can put multiple of them next to each other without risk choking any of them of airflow. I kind of wish that there would be a more modern version of this kind of impossible-to-choke cooler.
make holes in the sidepanel exactly where the 4 fans are, make it like a duct, then the card always gets cold air from outside the case, that's amazing.
Loved this video, I would like to see just how cool this thing could go if you liquid metal'd that seeing as the cooler contact plate looks to be pure copper
Ah, there is but another, higher end card from this era, and that was the GTX 690, which was two 680s on one board. This doubled the normal 2GB VRAM of the 680 to 4GB, which is still less than the 6GB of this card, so I'd be curious to see how the two compare...?
WOW the nostalgia i had two of those in SLI on my FX 9590 back in 2015. that was my most expensive PC ive ever owned it would run todays triple A titles with ease. i would trade my 12900KS 3090Ti system for that old PC. once again thanks again for yet another BLAST from the past RG
So this makes sense to me for only one reason. When you stack two cards for SLI, one card's fan is almost completely blocked by another card. I don't see why they are setup the way they are
My cousin has 2 of these beasts in SLI! it's so freaking loud, that after a while, the vibrations from the fans caused the support bracket to unscrew!!
Keep in mind! Back in 2012 side windows weren't even a thing! Everyone was running cooler master and had exhaust fans at the side panel with intake in front and buttom
Nice! I'd buy this beast any day, looks good, has good performance, and I wouldn't mind the high fan speed/noise as I prefer components to run cooler. Maybe you could have tried a lower resolution with Wolfenstein though, to get under the VRAM limit? Also, would this run F1 2015? :)
6:56 why with an I7-7700k, a gtx 1080 and 16gb ram ddr4, in PUBG I get worse low percentage results. For example, Average framerate : 118.6 FPS, 1% low framerate : 41.0 FPS , 0.1% low framerate : 12.8 FPS. With a worse configuration than mine you have a smoother/less stuttering experience . Think I tried everything and still don't understand why this happens.
@@VonCarlsson it shouldn't depend on that, have normal temps. Besides this I also notice a not-perfect smooth experience when I got high fps in PUBG.. It's weird. From today nvidia drivers will support freesync monitor (I have a one of those), hope it will help. Thx for the answer anyway ;)

Nice find. I'm a sucker for good hardware too. Without a dB meter, it would help to keep talking over the noise cuts to show the relative gain over normal speaking voice.
This is the best GPU you ever reviewed, for gamers weird! This is the content nerdy people like. GK104-400, it's just a standard chip, not one of these GK 100 cards, this is meant for gaming. *Takes a breath* HELLO EVERYONE ALI- A HERE
But why you didn't overclock it?
I mean.. It is named super oc 😂
it is factory overclocked.
Good job sneaking a little absolute unit joke in. Very proud
This cooler design has a surprising perk: you can put multiple of them next to each other without risk choking any of them of airflow. I kind of wish that there would be a more modern version of this kind of impossible-to-choke cooler.
dont just warn the neighbors warn the block jesus

I never was so early. (such achievement, ikr)
Only 2gb ram and the card is that big, This gpu is like a beeper from the 90s.
What does VRAM have to do with card size and what is a beeper in this context?
@J Thorsson why did you reply to this guy hes like 10 years old and doesnt have a clue about how technology has progressed
@J Thorsson very true
Bro imagine being in 2012, Minecraft is at it’s peak, and the way you want to run it is with this lad.
make holes in the sidepanel exactly where the 4 fans are, make it like a duct, then the card always gets cold air from outside the case, that's amazing.
the thumbnail looks like a tank from far away :D
Loved this video, I would like to see just how cool this thing could go if you liquid metal'd that seeing as the cooler contact plate looks to be pure copper
manufacturer: how many fans you want on this super overclock 680?
gigabyte: yes
Brilliant, keep up the good work.... Love ya videos.
I honestly do not understand how you achieved such performance with a 2GB gpu from 2012, i'm truly perplexed.
Ah, there is but another, higher end card from this era, and that was the GTX 690, which was two 680s on one board. This doubled the normal 2GB VRAM of the 680 to 4GB, which is still less than the 6GB of this card, so I'd be curious to see how the two compare...?
Only from 2012, unbelievable how fast PC tech progresses.
Honestly it's still viable in 2021 to play at 1080p medium, pretty impressive for 8 years of age
Everyone was running cooler master and had exhaust fans at the side panel with intake in front and buttom
great and enjoyable videos....keep it up... love them
The GTX 680 still gets the job done most of the time Thanks for the video RamdomGamingHD
6:56 why with an I7-7700k, a gtx 1080 and 16gb ram ddr4, in PUBG I get worse low percentage results. For example, Average framerate : 118.6 FPS, 1% low framerate : 41.0 FPS
, 0.1% low framerate : 12.8 FPS. With a worse configuration than mine you have a smoother/less stuttering experience . Think I tried everything and still don't understand why this happens.
Thermal throttling perhaps?
@@VonCarlsson it shouldn't depend on that, have normal temps. Besides this I also notice a not-perfect smooth experience when I got high fps in PUBG.. It's weird.
From today nvidia drivers will support freesync monitor (I have a one of those), hope it will help.
Thx for the answer anyway ;)
nice video to see tech I'd never known existed
I never considered that not all OW perform the same. Genuinely curious which maps demand the most. Payload > Control > Arcade?
I'm glad you added rainbow six siege to the benchmarks thanks
Another good video with some moments of great writing that really struck my sense of humor 😂
Edit* forgot to say "Wow" in regards to the gpu... Good find!
No overkill VRM design needed, just an overkill cooling solution, needed? Used? It is still running, were all my GTX 680 cards went dead.
I absolutely miss those old crazy and quirky designs. This does not really happen anymore... old cards had crazy stuff like the "Herculez x4", "Phantom", "Fury X mini" , "super overclock" and many more. I wish they would make crazy custom designs again. The only special ones i see nowadays are pink plastic ones with waifu stickers on it.... -.-
If you turn on closed captions the auto interprets the fan noise as [applause]. Pretty fitting for the end of a video.
man, imagine having this beast back in 2012...
