1. What are the benefits of doing this? The RAVE valves build up deposits from the exhaust and will hinder the performance of your sled if left uncleaned for too long. 2. When should you do it? It depends on the year of your sled and how much you ride. If yours is from the same era I would clean them seasonally or if you feel a performance loss. 3. What problems could it solve? It will restore power and top end performance that may have been lost by having dirty RAVE valves.
From what I've read, R.A.V.E valves close off the top part of the exhaust port and changes port timing. This gives the engine better low speed power without sacrificing high speed power.
@uncordobes They add to the performance of the sled and cleaning them just ensures that they operate correctly. It's maintenance. I'm over simplifying it but thanks for watching.
Search for parts online. Check the price if you have a local dealer near by, then check online for snowmobile parts. You can find some of the best deals online.

If you don't have a manual I'd suggest doing one at a time. Its easy to forget which little hole goes up or down and such. I gotta do this to mine. My dad don't have internet up at his place so I cant watch this while working. :(
Check the other one and see if it has one inside of it. Mine do not have that ring you are talking about and I don't believe there should be anything like that inside the bellows.
Do you happen to know the part number for this valve? I have been looking everywhere for a rebuild kit for one of these and there appears to be 80 million revisions but I cant find this specific one.
I am very intrested I want to start youtube and actually upload videos but I'm not sure what to use to record or edit the videos, my dad is a mechanic and has taught me a lot and I want to share my videos from alaska, from rebuilding four wheelers to snow machines, to hunting videos and fishing videos but I would like to know what gear is good to use for recording and what sites on the computer is good for editing, if you could help me out that would be greatly appreciated
It really will depend on home much money you have to spend. If you don't need an action cam find an inexpensive Sony HD camcorder like the HDR-cx 405 and Vegas editing software. It doesn't have to be the most updated version of vegas. Sony used to make Vegas but it got bought out by Magix. The Older versions will be cheaper.

Paisteboy Thanks, mine is a 2003 Summit 600 Ho
Yes, I would follow that procedure that I laid out. Thanks for watching.

@theboarman
Depending on the condition of the hood it could be anywhere from $50 to $250.
Rotax Adjustable Variable Exhaust
mine look a little different on my '02. soon as the ground freezes up i will get mine inside and do my rave valves
@gujada9776
Yes on the metal pieces only. I would be more careful though.
I use a brass wire wheel for my dremoll tool.Work's awsome.
Yes. That it a good option if you have a dremel. I have a really old one but never use it.
Soak them in acetone overnight. (The valve Blade only) They look brand new with no scrubbing. Your welcome!
Worked fine the way I did it.
Thanks for the video!
You're welcome!
Thanks for watching.
Thanks never thought of it Im doing this today
Good video. I have a few questions:
What are the benefits from doing this? When should you do it?
What problems could it solve?

What does cleaning out the RAVE valves actually do or improve? Is this just a maintenance procedure? Great video!
Can you do a video replacing a fuel filter I have a 1999 formula 800
Sorry. Sold that sled 5 years ago.
Do those need to be torqued ? If so, what are the specs?
Not that I'm aware of.
could i use a wire wheel to clean the valves?
@FearlessRomp
maybe later today.
when is part 2 coming out
Kinda of a stupid question but what exactly do the rave valves do????
Increases exhaust port size at higher rpm
I did this to my Sea Doo as well. They were stuck. You can order a RAVE repair kit.
Good to know. Thanks for watching.
Very nice. I will be doing mine in the next few days. Where you located? I have an 01 700.
James McGath
Upstate NY. I sold that sled a while back. Bought a brand new 2016 Blizzard.
@paisteboy how much does a hood cost for a 200 mxz 700?
Do you happen to know the part number for this valve? I have been looking everywhere for a rebuild kit for one of these and there appears to be 80 million revisions but I cant find this specific one.
No. Sorry.
instead of using the brass brush, would a scotch brite pad work
I'm sure a scotch brite pad would be fine.
paisteboy those are just ski doos version of a power valve
Does this work the same on the 600? I have a 600 h.o 2003
It's not going to be exactly the same but it will be very similar.
@@Paisteboy oh, okay 👍
your old lady must buy the paper towel at your house lol
Yes. We buy it in bulk at Sam's Club.
Could this be my issue of my 95 670 formula ss bogging when I pin it
Yes. Dirty R.A.V.E. can make a sled bog or run sluggish.
would this be similar on a ski doo MXZ 670?
I would think so but I'm not sure since I've never had or worked on one.
thanks body.
oven cleaner works well
Hey man thanks!
You bet! Thanks for watching.
8 years ago and your still replying? Holy you like what 60 now?
@@kyronplayz7210 Not even close to 60 but I do appreciate my viewers.
My skidoo is a bit sloughish almost like she's cold sometime would this be the problem maby
newfie stunts team
Yes. Absolutely.
my sled won't start, we have gas compression and spark. Could this be the problem?
Possibly. Is the sled definitely getting fuel? If not sure try putting a very small amount of pre-mix fuel in each spark plug hole.
paisteboy we did that, still didn't start, do you have any other suggestions?
The only thing I can think of is bad fuel or maybe it's flooded. If you smell a lot of gas it could be flooded.
What do you use to make your videos, I really enjoy watching this! -Brandon R
At that point I had a SONY camcorder non HD and edited with Sony Vegas 9. If you're interested it what I use now let me know.

I cleaned my rave valve and now the idle rpm is at 3000 instead of 1000...how do I reduce the rpm??
