My 2016 says 75W80 (GL-4) but it does seem hard to find compared to 75W90. I do like this car but one complaint is that when it get's below -18 Celcius it's noticeably harder to shift and it doesn't improve much even when the car is well warmed up.
Take note that ANY Mazda past 2016 takes 75W-80 GL4 in its manual transmission. If you put 75W-90 it will be hard to shift and the excess sulfur in 75w90 will cause corrosion to the brass sleeves in the gearbox. Take it from me - I learned the hard way!
Not that "excess sulfur" is a product of being a GL-5 oil. GL-4 is sulfur safe. The weight is another issue. There are several good alternatives. Redline MT-L. MT-LV, MT-80 to name some.
@@toke110 mine's been running pretty well (same as before oil change). I don't think there would be much of an issue with viscosity being different using a non spec oil, but there may be material compatibility issues... I'd keep looking for the correct oil. Maybe an expert can provide insight. If all else fails... Maybe u can get some from the dealership
I feel like it's been slightly more difficult to push into gear especially in the winter. Did this years ago and the trans still feels exactly the same. If your thinking of doing it you don't need a pump. Just run a hose from top into the fill hole and pour in with a funnel
@@gunnerwolf thanks for the reply. I got this done at a shop I don't completely trust. So I'm not sure if they actually did it. But good to hear it's not much difference.
Nope. If you decide to do an oil change you can more easily fill from the top rather then the bottom with a pump. Check out the details I wrote under the video

You can buy it at the Mazda dealership. Cost me about $35 for two quarts.

cant find 75W80

How's your car doing with the 75W90? I can't seem to find the 75W80 at my local auto shops.
What year car do you have? Apparently using the wrong oil can be catastrophic
@@gunnerwolf 2014
I found Red Line 75w80 at Walmart(online) and Amazon.

how many litres of fluid?
Fill amount should be 1.7 liters
Hi, if I were to use the hose method from the top. What size do i need?
@@suprimx3130 maybe like 3/8"
Great video. Did you notice any improvement in shifting?

Nice job my vato
Is there an oil filter that needs to be changed as well?
Nope.

Do you know how to tell if the fluid level is low or high? Because only the automatics come with a dipstick
Sorry I didn’t watch all the way to the end
So if you fill up to the full cap it’s not possible to overfill on a level surface?
@@abeklassen6716 that's right. More info in the description
Okay I used royal purple 75w-90 but it didn’t say gl-4 or gl-5 on the bottle anywhere. Is my transmission gonna end up shitting itself?
Bolt size?
How many miles was on the Mazda when you changed it
Something like 50 0000 miles
Did you use a new washer
Nope. And I haven't noticed it leaking
No need unless there's visible deformation, leaks or corrosion on the washer
Was the transmission whining on the road?
Nope
@@gunnerwolf damn...my 18 2.5 touring manual sounds like it whines whenever gas is applied when in gear
Hopefully it's a bearing, belt, or something else instead of the tranny
@danielserrano2801 Did you ever find anything out about this? My 2016 Mazda2 1.5 has a whine in 2nd.
@@danielserrano2801 My 2.0 (europe spec) also has that noise but only when cold and usually after rain or damp conditions.
How many miles was it when you replaced it
120,000 km
In EU the manual says 180.000 km but I changed at 140.000 km
Change it every 40,000 miles. The manufacturer recommendation for transmission fluid is crap.
First!
