Cults use moral truisms as their marketing strategy which is why you feel yourself being sucked in. The core values of most cults are rooted in objective moral truths.
Cults however always have some kind of great overarching lie that is used to justify its existence and behaviour an authoritarian organisation.
They use the logic of “desperate times call for desperate measures” in order to deactivate the skeptical minds of those who see the immoral travesties committed by them.
Cults are incredibly easy to be suckered into because they appeal to based human desires like acceptance, love, companionship and a greater purpose.
Whenever you see a spiritual or secular leader that is charismatic and promises you everything you desire so long as you are subservient to them and have complete “faith” you should immediately be suspicious. You should begin to question what the leader gains through your subservience because Teacher student relationships don’t work on this kind of power imbalance both religious and secular..
Faith blinds and makes you dependent.
Have faith in yourself and god be humble and don’t idolise man for they will always lead you astray. Look at the current world as evidence of this.

@@gameguys6402 That is how successful cults work, they point out actual issues in the world or in their followers' life and then offer sanctuary and community, before sucking the followers dry. It is depressing that so many people who played this game miss that, cults aren't cartoon groups, they know how to manipulate.

He's right. The hard truth is there is evil and good in this world. We've given the evil a chance but realized true evil can never do or turn good but only bring destruction, so it is the duty of the good to destroy evil to preserve and spread good.
I am not sure how any future Far Cry title could top this game.

@@orangepluto Far Cry 6 looks wack in my opinion, I heard they are keeping makeshift weapons like in New Dawn. Honestly I think 6 is just going to be another New Dawn except in a new location, new characters etc.
I think if they combined 4 5 and new dawn you would have the perfect game. Loveable enemies like 4, while being understandable and believing the cause they have like joseph. And having great systems, weapons, vehicles, from new dawn!

You know... I think Joseph Seed is right. I realize he is a game character and he’s literally a corporate creation, which is part of the consumerism that he is talking about...but this message actually rings VERY true. If Ubisoft wanted us to hate him and not to identify with him, why did they make his message so righteous? It also helps that “Keep Your Rifle by Your Side” is a total banger.
I don't think Ubisoft wanted us to hate him. Or at least it's part of that whole 'look, but don't see' mentality. Most people who play this game only 'look' and see a psychopath killing people. But those who 'see' can tell that this is just a man who has been granted a gift and is now doing all that's necessary to prepare for the new world.

It's not that Ubisoft made him to be hated. It's just people seeing what they want to see in him.
Far Cry has a tendency to make me like the "villain" more by the end of 4 I didn't see Pagan as the real villain after seeing he was a man of his word and then seeing what Anita and Sabal do
First i see Father talking about farmers loosing the lands because corporate and financial system. Later i see governments are just a branch of these greedy corpos. Maybe Father isnt wrong at all...

He is meant to have compelling points and critiques of society, because that is how cunning cult leaders. They tell the cult to the judge the world around them, but not the atrocities within.
And when you listen to Keep Your Rifle by Your Side, and they talk about defending their land, defending their families, how they will fight their overwhelming enemies to the end, that is exactly what THEY are doing to other people.

The scary part is, is that these words can fit in anywhere because they’re true, their is not doubt Joseph Seed is a psychopath. But this preach is just a recognition of the flaws of modern society, you don’t need to be religious or a nihilist to know these words are 100% right because they’re just an observance and an opinion on the today world. Our future looks bleak if we humans do continue to let our innate greed continue to consume until we’ve starved the only thing that permits us to live and that’s the very earth we walk on. No matter your religion or lack there of you should understand the earth was created by something and that this planet is the only thing keeping us alive. Your gods made this realm and you should want to preserve it if not for them then yourselves and your family. Because it’s health equates your health. You thrive when it thrives. That should be motivation enough to stop destroying everything around us just in the name of Me. And if you’re too stubborn to see that, then the next few decades will have your blood on it because when the masses finally have had enough that when that so called “reconning” will come. Because deep down all we want to do is survive and we will do anything to accomplish that.

I’m incredibly late to the party, but I just finished the game. I was oddly both horrified and comforted by the end. He was right.
I finished it again for the second time and it is one of my favourite games ever!!! It is really so good.

Guess I'm a sheep to be manipulated by some whack job cause, anyone came preaching this to me, I'd be jelly in their hands and moist in my pants. Seriously though, Greg Bryk did such an amazing job delivering this character and his story to us. It's been said countless times before, but it can't be said enough. In my opinion, despite the great Montana atmosphere, I'm not sure Far Cry 5 would be as gripping as it is without the performance and life brought to Joseph Seed, and the rest of the cast with him.
Thanks to Greg and obviously the whole team and cast, this game made me question things, and when any piece of art does that, I feel like that's a good thing. Not to mention, fanatical cult or not, these words are true, have been true, and I feel we are truly approaching the point of no return.

Joseph seed is a more powerful villain in all far cry games cause this is the most realistic one of all
The comments pretty much show just how easy it is to be convinced to join a cult. People don't realise how it's not really that difficult to manipulate somebody.

Honestly, I think The Father's more of a protagonist then the 'actual protagonist' who does LITERALLY nothing but kill people the whole game and without any obvious empathy or regard.

with the ending proving Joseph was right all along and we were the bad guys who didn't know it because they thought they were doing good.
The deputy kills violent cultists. Joseph Seed kills innocent dissidents, and also practices slavery, brainwashing, torture, and chemical lobotomies, among other things. Who is the real villain of the game?
With all due respect, you would have fallen for Jonestown if you had been alive back then. Like Joseph Seed, Jim Jones also regularly preached objective truths about societal injustices and failing, and offered sanctuary to outcasts and people struggling - and like Jim Jones, this use of truth was a means to an end. It is sick that so many people in this "enlightened age" can fall for this sort of stuff.
I would have liked for there to more sermons for the player to discover and listen to (like the Jackal tapes in FC2), as those (along with the choir music) are some of the few instances during where you get any sort of insight into the cult's beliefs. Something I found endlessly frustrating about the story is that the cult's theology is never explored in any significant depth. There's so much vague rhetoric about punishing "sinners" and culling the "weak" but hardly anything in the way of concrete answers. _Why_ are the cultists are so enthusiastic about sacrificing themselves by the hundreds to try to kill you? What are they fighting for? Like, what drew them to the cult in the first place? Why are there so many of the cultists non-white? What is it in Joseph's vision that appeals to the sensibilities of such a broad range of people with different backgrounds?
What does Joseph's vision of a new, better world entail beyond there being less "weakness" (whatever that's supposed to mean) in it? I like the sermon where Joseph decries mindless consumerism and the hollowness of social media (in liue of being part of a community of people you actually care about), as that's an instance where he's offering a tangible argument for _why_ people should join his flock. If I were a screenwriter at Ubiosoft, I'd have explored that point in greater depth. Maybe Joseph is able to recruit all these disaffected young people of different races and backgrounds by making correct observations about why life is so meaningless and unfulfilling under 21st century neoliberal capitalism. Maybe he's offering them a place they can feel like they belong (IE, in his communal "family") and the opportunity to be a part of something, namely his project to build what he claims will be a fairer world (it would further help explain all the non-white membership if Joseph made it clear during a sermon that he's a big proponent of racial egalitarianism despite the general extremity of his beliefs, as that's part of how Jim Jones accrued such a large following from both white and black folks).

Listening to al the seeds preaches they are very well written and effective. Its interesting how cults and groups are able to bring in people just by words alone as long as those words can resonate with a person, usually being people who are broken or feeling without any purpose in the world. The voice actors and writers did a good job, its a shame as the story could have been enriched more for a all better game.

This cult is basically weaponized Jehovah's Witnesses that don't believe in pacifism. I was raised a JW and all the doomsaying "the end is near, look around, can't you see the signs?" was all I heard.

Not the best of the franchise as a whole, but FC5’s artistic value is remarkable
Personally this is my 2nd best FC (first being 2). Music, cinematic plays and cult messages more than just make up for the downside of this game.
The thing is he was right from the beginning but his modus operandi was not righteous and just.
