Your BA problem sound kind of similar to a problem I had with a VE SV6 ute. Big difference being ford v holden, and mine was a 6 speed; however, every mechanic kept pointing to the coil packs. Which fixed the problem when replaced ... temporarily. Turned out it was the cat sensor throwing out the entire car.
