Yeah, good thought! Russia would likely have the most to gain from a Trump return to power. I suspect though that even with their meddling they see the highly unlikely scenario where Trump actually wins. Trump might still have some strategic purpose for Putin outside of the white house but I wouldn't say for that much. Any foreign power would also have to contend with their puppet wannabe potentially spending all or a good portion of the rest of his days behind bars.

I can't believe the number of reporters asking "why won't bond companies take his buildings as collateral" when the whole point of the lawsuit was that he lied about the worth of the buildings. Multiple times.
I would suspect the buildings al ready have been used as collateral for other loans.

The AG has to present the paperwork to the presiding judge and run it past the court-appointed monitor over the Trump Organization (a retired federal judge). She was placed there to make sure they don't hide or transfer assets. Then the judge orders the Sheriff to serve the paperwork on whoever gets it (county records office, building manager, etc). Banks and brokerages transfer the account assets to a special holding account the State maintains.

It can get complicated. Take 40 Wall Street, a skyscraper literally on Wall Street. Trump claims it on his list of properties, but he doesn't actually own the land. The Hinnenberg family of Germany, who are the world's 3rd largest "shipbrokers", own the land, and Trump pays them land rent. Shipbrokers are the people who arrange space on cargo ships for customers who have goods to transport. Thus Trump is only a tenant on the land, who in turn leases space in the building sitting on that land.
The building was 18% vacant as of 2022, so rental income is reduced. The value is based on rents minus maintenance, the mortgage, and the land rent. It may not be that much, in which case the sale value will be small.

Correct. Neither would bankruptcy if any of the debt is dismissed. For most kinds of debt, whatever amount is "forgiven" is considered taxable income. And tax collection is only delayed until bankruptcy is completed. It doesn't stop penalties and interest from accruing. Can't be gifted over a certain amount without taxes, can't write off certain debt without taxes.

I bought a prefab building, but after constructing it I couldn't get it passed on the building permit. I was told I had to have a metal engineer look at it. I called four of them they all turned me down without even looking at it as soon as I told them the company I purchased it from. I live in Canada, and the building is not CSA-approved. So I talked to a few different lawyers to see what I could do seeing as how they illegally sold it in Canada. They all told me that I was right and had the right to be upset about it, but because the company has more money than I do there was nothing I can do about it. They are still being sold here and many are collapsing from the snow. I can't insure it either.
