I'm totally jealous. I made this hike with three of my kids a couple of years ago, we were going up that last bit of super slipper shale and the youngest freaked out, he couldn't do it. We were so, so close to the top, but never made it. Kid was a trooper though, only 10 years old and made that whole hike.
I think we got there about 4:45 and were on the trail by 5. For the most part we escaped the heat of the afternoon. I hope you have clear skies when you go!
You gotta do it! Permits usually go on sale in mid-March on recreation.gov but they sell out quick. If you miss out keep checking because sometimes people cancel and they go up for sale again.
It looks like the permit system is different for this year...instead of a free for all in mid-March, permits for a certain month go on sale on the first day of the preceding month...In other words...May permits go on sale April 1, June permits go on sale May 1, and so on.
Man. You did what I always dreamed of. How did you access the climbers bivouac ? Wasn't it barricaded ? Did you have a permit or did you just go it on your own (they did not issue any this year to the best of my knowledge ). Well done .. thank you for the great video.
Road was open for us all the way to the trailhead at CB. I believe they "reopened" the trails in late May??? Anyway it was all clear by this time in late July. Perfect conditions as you can see. We did have a permit, you don't need one after September though. We are very amateur, so it is a very doable hike...bucket list for me no doubt. Take it slow though, totally worth it! And thanks for watching!
@@jongoodwin yes. I was there at the end of may. And most places were barricaded. We could go as far as the snow park but the CB road was barricaded. I'll try to make it again this year before it gets too cold.
@@sammencia7945 reflecting back, you are right. I felt like I was “pulled” up by the other three guys :) adrenaline will certainly take you a long way!

Did this hike as a teen in the Boy Scouts years ago. Really need to get up there again. Think I'll go for it this year.
Outstanding gentlemen!🥷❤️🙏
Good stuff guys!! This has been a bucket list mountain to climb. Can't wait to climb it this summer.
October 29th, 2020 !!! The most exciting hike! Got a bit of forest, then boulders, and then a crater! Certainly the best all-round hike!
I was in Portland on business but it was the wrong season. But I saw the awesome view from the plane.
Very cool always wanted to go up one of those and do some rock collecting👍✌
Don't do that.
Leave the mountain on the mountain.
I’ve been to the top of San Grongonio California and it was incredible.
awesome bro.
I did it back in 06 and that last 100 yards was the hardest part.
Totally agree. Mentally and physically. Knowing the view was waiting was enough to push us up to the top!
It completely was. I knew it was going to be tough and all, but when I could see the top, there was probably another 100 ft to go
This is sic. I did this in August. Do you remember the name of the song at 4:05? If so could I have it? Thx
The song is called "Just Like You." I got it from a music subscription website called FirstCom. Hope that helps!
@@jongoodwin Awwh thank you! I really appreciate it!!
That’s a beautiful sight.
Now that is cool
Great video! I have permits for September, fingers crossed for good weather.
What time did you all arrive at the trailhead?

How was your trip?
Thanks for sharing this. On my bucket list. What are the requirements to get a permit?

Yes they for sure reopened. Me, my sister, aunt, father and mother all summited on August 18th so it is
How long did it to climb and to descend?
About 4 hours up and 2 1/2 hours down...with a 30 minute lunch at the top!
Mine was 12 hours total, even though I'm in good shape🙂

Your group was in good condition.

Teamwork, and having a group around, helps to elevate individual performance.
Id cheat instead of climbing for the summit id climb the caldera route for the lava dome lol.
I bet I did it quicker
