My Korean aunt married a black man from the south and it's always a trip seeing bucket of ribs and a jar of kimchi in their fridge at all times. The way y'all describe louisiana food is like what we say about Korean soul food. Love the content.
I think soul food and korean food compliment each other quite well. and where do you think they got the idea for korean fried chicken? koreans seem to love it based on all the reaction videos I've seen. fusion food can help heal the world.
❤️❤️ Now we have to try one of your recipes!
@@TheDemouchetsREACT Oh, Korean food is the truth. Go hit up some Korean fried chicken or Korean barbecue. Oh my goot-ness.
I live in Louisiana and my wife is half Korean/ half black. Apparently it’s really common during the Korean War and also why Koreans are so good at frying chicken. Chimaek is just a chicken/beer spot and it’s always SO GOOD
Their waffle house tasting was great, they did it with a southern chef after trying BBQ with him. Its worth checking out those two videos. "Brits try southern BBQ" and "brits try waffle house". Really all their videos where they try american food are great.
the waffle house video great, i like the "try real southern fried chicken" in Georgia one as well. But all their videos are gold especially their british high schooler videos try videos
The one where they tried Tex Mex was great too.
Will do!
@@levy2k6 To be fair it was Brits/Scots who first fried chicken and who took it to the States, Mac and Cheese is also English, as is Apple pie, sorry to blow your Yanks mind right there
I love that description "when you hear those cabinets sliding". It took me back in time. 😊❤
😁😁
Loving the reactions to jolly❤ The reason ollie said that its sounds like something you clear of the road is because here in the uk the only grits we have is the salt grit they put down on ice to clear the road ❤
Ahhh! Thanks.
Alright, I've watched enough of y'alls videos. I have to subscribe now. Y'all have quickly become my favorite reaction channel to Jolly. Y'all definitely should react to more of their videos as well as their other channel Korean Englishmen where they introduce Korean food and culture to different people. I personally can't watch any of their videos without something to eat so that I'm not going crazy. Right now I'm watching this video while eating a homemade fried chicken sandwich with homemade pickles, onions, and ancho chili and crispy garlic oil.
Love it! You can tell it went straight to their soul when they took their first bites lol
If you're looking for the original biscuits and gravy one, it's called "Brits try Southern Biscuits and Gravy for the first time!"
It's part of their tour of Savannah GA - def worth watching/reacting to, as well!
Speaking of their Savanah, Georgia tour:
They should also check the video where they try the banana pudding at "Sweet Potatoes" in Savanah
Will do!
just wanted to say you two have great energy and it's nice that you clue viewers into the cultural aspects of the food -- not everyone knows that stuff. love the reactions.
Thank you & you’re welcome! So glad you enjoy the videos!
They were introduced to a variety of southern staples in Savannah, Georgia, including collard greens. That was a fun video.
Hey neighbors, E. Texan here. Loved when you said soul food isn’t just for the hood. Let everyone try it and know how it hits. They said it right, it’s like a warm hug.
Hey from Texas, My grandma from Louisiana was born in 1902. She used to make cathead biscuits from scratch
Their last visits to the US was not in Louisiana. They have been to South Carolina and Atlanta and even Texas but this was their first time here (NOLA.). And if you are from Louisiana then you know that no state is like ours so while they have had "Southern" food, they have not had "our" Southern food. lol
They have 2 channels, this JOLLY one and The Korean Englishmen.
Yeah, you should watch the Jolly episodes where they went out with Chef Noah. Those were some entertaining episodes.
Watch the older ones they are worth it, plus the Texas bbq is one of my favorites
I also like that one, and the one's where they're trying rodeo food for the first time
Will do!
Shrimp and grits is one of my favorites! My mom had a great version. All my friends were jealous of my mom’s cooking growing up. Her sauce was reddish from reducing the toasted shells for stock in the sauce. It was so good.
I love Jolly, the last group of videos 6months ago, was Texas, worth watching, Blacks BBQ, Tex-Mex, Rodeo, I’ve seen the Buccees video a bazillion times, their video and reaction videos, I still laugh.
I am stuck away from the south and am missing my family and the food like crazy, y'all are helping
Yes they were in Georgia for a wafflehouse, bbq, a southern breakfast, and another restaurant in Savannah serving chicken, pies and such.
should check out their video where they have British highshool kids try biscuits and gravy, their reactions are priceless haha
I love that they're surprised that the grits are gritty.
To be very fair, there are different parts of the country that have a little harder time with spice than the east and west coast. Kudos to you. I have lots of Scot and Irish in the ancestral background. Been to both countries and loved it.
Nowwwwww ya talkin old school 😂. I sold a lot of barbecue over the years. And had cracklin cornbread every week. And my pulled pork sandwiches? Fried cornbread instead of buns.
But I was blown away by how many old school “country” folks never had or heard of cracklins or fried cornbread or hot water cornbread.
😂😂 Born and raised in Southern Louisiana- we’ve tried (or heard of) it all!
I swear some of those bites are big enough for a horse to swallow. If my family members see me doing that, I won't be out of lecturing until the week after.
It was that good😂😂
We have a real Soul Food restaurant here in Omaha and the food is like none other. I was with a group of 4 so we had a bit of everything. For me, the greens were amazing with the cornbread.
"Comfort food from the south" Amen!
It would be so cool if u guys did a collab and u fed them southern food.
You should check out any of their videos in Georgia and Texas. They also have funny videos where they have british highschools try american snacks/drinks and such. They also do the same with American Highschoolers and British food and snacks, etc. Those are the ones I recommend. (The Texas Rodeo one is amazing 😂)
The series on their “Korean Englishman” page where they took British rappers to Korea is really good
The rappers are fantastic! And they were so incredibly excited to visit Korea, any episode with them is gold!
Is that why its called " soul food", because "you can feel it in your soul"?
Ultimately yes. It is the name given to African American cuisine when others said we didn’t have “cuisine” in our culture. It speaks to the recipes passed down from generation to generation, often dated back to the times of slavery. Our food is the heart or “soul” of our culture.
They took sausage and gravy to British high schoolers. You should watch it.
I totally agree
The initial reactions from the students are pretty amusing, too
But, they come around
Will do!
they tried crackling in the Louisiana BBQ episode. The last time they had biscuits and gravy was in their s east visit
You guys have to watch the video when they tried southern style bbq
You can tell with the shrimp and grits that they are *not* accustomed to actual flavor. I think the combo of highly seasoned (aka properly made) grits, etouffee sauce, and well seasoned shrimp was too much for their English palates.
I have also never had etouffee sauce or eggs on my shrimp and grits, but I don't think it sounds bad. If I saw it on a menu I'd be curious and order it.
Yes, the first vdeos they had from the south were in Savannah, Georgia earlier this year. And they also had some videos in Texas.
Im from Cali. And I went to New Orleans for the first time not long ago, and your food is out of this world. I was particularly surprised with gator meat. Mainly on a po' boy. OMG...
Its actually a south carolina dish. Louisiana is filled with culture vultures
@dan-patrickobrien3580 That actually checks out. I've heard the Carolina's have some good ass food, too.
Carolina pioneered gator meat? Is that what you're saying?
@@2ksnikt yeah South Carolina and Louisiana have aTON of shared history culture and geography. I'm from Charleston SC and jazz (well to be fair the precursor to jazz)was being played in Charleston before New Orleans even existed.
They went to Georgia, you should check out their Georgia videos.
Love Jolly! You should reaction to their Texas Barbecue video!
I would DEFINITELY watch a Demonstration from you guys who KNOW about Southern Soul food… I love it, but don’t have a clue how to make it! Keep up the great work!
We have a great video coming up on our family channel! www.youtube.com/@LifeWithDem
Ollie joke is the best
jolly is a fun channel
😂😂😂 Mannnnnnn I wanted to toss his fork in the parking lot when he used it for a chicken biscuit 😂😂😂. We never had shrimp and grits for breakfast. That’s always been our end of the day, supper in sweatpants that’s going to knock you out for the rest of the day 😂. Always loaded it down with plenty of sausage, crispy chopped bacon and a few chopped green onions. And 😂😂😂 I know this is blasphemous for some folks. But we grew up eating buttery sweet grits for breakfast then cheese or shrimp and grits for supper.
😂😂 Sweet grits is definitely not foreign to us! We call that city vs country living. We remember eating a bag of cracklins on weekends. They’re pricey now!
@@TheDemouchetsREACT 😂 yep. We always had sweet rice or sweet grits growing up. We thought you were rich kid if you had Stuff like Fruit Loops.
🤣🤣🤣 Hell these days you’ll go broke trying to eat what broke folks grew up on.
My uncle use to cut meat. Use to sell chicken wings 10 CENTS a pound. Trying to buy broke folk Oxtail these days will put you in the poor house 🤣🤣🤣.
Lol hell I was eyeballing some neck bone just the other day craving some Souce
😂😂 We need to travel home just for food!
Glad yall said something about the grits, I didn’t even recognize them swimming in sauce and served with egg and radish?? That was a little off putting
They have been traveling in the US for some time now, check out their page. They made bis and gravy in England and gave it to school kids, It was great.
Have you reacted to any of the British school boys eating American food? I think they say "British high schoolers" although their high school is 6-12th grade. The Biscuits and Gravy one is classic.
I LOVE a good bloody mary.
Their other channel is called the Korean English man with tons of get content
I eat fried catfish with grits.
Someday would like to try grits .I know its ground corn but does it have any similarities to corn bread.
No, the texture is different.
@@TheDemouchetsREACT yes but since both were ground corn I thought the flavor may be similar. And thank you for the reply.
If you want to try another y-tuber that just fell in love w/Louisiana food is mikey chan of strictly dumpling his love of food just come through he has millions of viewers just type mikey chan and Louisiana a whole bunch show up he is American but just started to try southern cooking in last 3yrs he was originally from mid west and is extremely funny and has about 8 different y-tube channels
Where are y'all from? I was born in Ruston, but my parents came from Lake Providence.
Lafayette & New Orleans.
I think the egg was only in the hangover bowl which also had grits, and not on the shrimp and grits. And I'm fairly certain that was not etouffee on the shrimp and grits, I think tgey just misspoke. 😊
The hangover meal had the brisket in it I believe.
I love a good runny golden-yolk egg in my shrimp and grits
That restaurant over does the shrimp and grits. It had way too much sauce and no eggs or greens should be on it... I think it would be better just shrimp and grits straight up.
I always put a fried egg over mine and break the yolk to mix in
This was our very first time seeing it presented like this.
Since the US is a former british colony, they dont have anything we dont have lol. Or they have recipes that were popular in the 1800s but fell out of favor or were improved.
Well, put the seasoning and spices you “have” to use😅
Americans react to Brits react to Japanese food reviews from Pakistan.
You've missed a lot.
Brits are used to pretty bland food. They like beans on toast. Ugh!!
This is soo untrue! I don't know anybody who doesn't have a spice & herb cupboard/rack 😂 although I'm scottish not english like jolly😂 these guys giving us a bad name😂
