Frankie Penzo Yeah that crazy stance of his. I remember in little league we all copied somebodies stance. But nobody ever had the guts to try Julio's. Haha it was just too awkward. Me personally, I copied Ron Gant.
Sonic The Hedgehog Big Mac had the perfect stance to hit homers bc it was pretty easy to stay relaxed and not try to kill the ball. When you try to hit homers you usually either strike out or hit choppy grounders. I think over the years I copied a lot of guys. Sheffield, Jeff Bagwell, Albert Belle, Juan Gonzalez, but for some reason Ron Gant worked the best for me.
absolutely.. these are the types of guys you want you're kids looking up to. Real Class act. touching video to see someone come to America and live out their dream. Good for him.
I'm sure that for every generation there are people who think that the next one doesn't respect the game as much. Not to take anything away from Mr. Franco but I guarantee you that everyone (ok, 99.99%) playing in MLB and other professional leagues today has the utmost love and respect for the game. That's why they're playing it, and that's why we're watching them.
love how he said "eventually the game wins". he's not delusional, he knows that at some point he won't be able to play the way he wants to play, but until that time, he's going to go out there and give it his all. respect to mr. julio franco
I was a member of the Fort Worth Cats when he played last year. He is a great guy! I loved the heart and desire he had. I learned a lot from him while he was there. And to the guy who said he didn't play much; he played and got 6 hits i believe. Great spirit! This was my first yr of pro ball and it was great experience!
Dude hope you make it to the big leagues. Im 30 now and probably could have been there but i chose to take the wrong path after high school and give up what i love. Always persevere man.
rasheedk219 I remember watching him play with the Indians as a youngin'. I think it's great 3-4 generations of people can grow up watching Julio Franco play baseball ;)
He was an absolute beast hitting behind Frank Thomas in his one season on the south side. Best Sox team I ever saw, unfortunately that was the year of the strike.
I got mad respect for this guy and Jamie Moyer old timers who played the game they loved until they just simply couldn't do it anymore because of their age.
Julio. Franco always enjoys watching him bat. He is a real inspirational player. In was never good, warmed up enough baseball benches. But now at 40 im learning to play hockey and keeping up with youngsters getting better each day. Anyways just having fun, you only live once.
Julio Franco has so much heart! he is a true example to everyone in sports. I loved him when he played for my Braves :). Play from your heart and for the love of the game. He is the "Ageless Wonder" for sure. He is in his mid 50s and still in amazing physical shape. We love you Julio!!.
Julio Franco was/is a beast, Red Sox fan here! Franco always scared me when he was at the plate, ALWAYS! He really respects the game and loves it dearly, wish guys like Franco never got old! the miises his type of person! God Bless You Julio!
i'm 29 now playing since ball since i was in 2nd grade. body is definitely breaking down on me after all those nicks and major injuries in hs/college. cant imagine playing till im 52 that's insane. really hope my body can cause there's nothing like playing on that field and making that beautiful sound hitting a baseball with a wooden bat.
Great guy. Awesome to see. SEE THIS IS THE TYPE OF GUY YOU WANT YOU'RE KIDS GROWING UP IDOLIZING. Good for him. lots of respect. This is the type of guy you want on you're ball club. You can hear in his voice... HE LOVES THE GAME. How could he not. You play in front of thousands of people, chill with the boys everyday, get to challenge yourself. Even though hes in his 50's he is still challenging himself. Its people like this who live to be 90+... because they stay active and at work. Touching video. I hope in 2017 he is still able to play.
how about team owners? why is it players are criticized for going for big contracts, but when scumbag owners try to hold a city hostage and demand tax money for a building to conduct their privately owned business in, people support the owners?
Longest stretches between at-bats for Julio Franco as a Met: 2006-four stretches of more than 4 days between appearances. April 5-April 12 (7 days) May 7-May 13 (6 days) Aug 4-Aug 10 (6 days) 2007-one stretch of more than 4 days before appearances April 13-April 22 (9 days) Julio Franco never went 15, 20, or 30 days between at bats as a Met, unless you consider the last day of the 2006 season to opening day 2007. Given that he was 47 years old, the longer absences might well have been due to unavailability.
staticoverdub- Franco was in better shape at 47 than most people at 27. look at him in this video and you can tell he stays in shape. the simple fact is that muts management is a laugh, even now with one of the top pitching staffs in baseball they still cant win anything.
What a player. He had that batting stance that was so powerful for him. You can't tell me that he wasn't talented. It takes great timing to swing and hit the ball like he does with that stance.
@@matts.323 You know what percentage of Dominicans make it to the majors? Do the research. You will find it's super small. Focus on educating yourself instead. Sports are meaningless. Accomplish something in science, technology and other areas.
I remember him playing for the Indians(first time) when I was a kid. This man is an inspiration still playing at his age. I like his quote at the end, words to live by. Especially in this time of fat, lazy asses everywhere.
"I've heard that old men wake up and scratch itchy legs that been dust for over fifty years. That was me. I'd wake up at night with the smell of the ball park in my nose, the cool of the grass on my feet...."
"IT'S ABOUT REMEMBERING WHERE YOU COME FROM AND THE LOVE YOU HAVE FOR THE GAME, THAT SHOULDN'T TELL YOU TO STOP. PLAYING!!".........."IT'S NOT ABOUT THE MONEY, THE MONEY IS SECONDARY!!!!!!!!
Absolute legend... I'll always remember that batting stance too, no surprise he's still playing for the pure love of the game
Frankie Penzo Yeah that crazy stance of his. I remember in little league we all copied somebodies stance. But nobody ever had the guts to try Julio's. Haha it was just too awkward. Me personally, I copied Ron Gant.
DSdouble Bringing back the memories man.
KingElrosTarMinyatur Baseball and nostalgia go together very nicely ya know?
+DSdouble I Copied Mark McGwire And Cranked A Homer In My First At Bat

This man has so much respect for the game....very hard to find in players now days
I thought exactly the same !!! Old school rules !!!
As a Cal grad I softened up on Jeff Kent when he helped save Cal's baseball team. Imagine the Pac-12 without Cal...in any sport.
shut up old man

I feel bad that Julio didn't enjoy his time with the Mets. Loved having him on the team.
Wow, what a machine! I remember watching him play in old Arlington Stadium when I was a kid in the late 80's. He is still lean and mean.
julio Franco es una leyenda del béisbol profesional
Very inspiring. I enjoyed watching him play in MLB for many years. Talk about a passionate athlete. Amazing person.
THAT MAN IS MY COUSIN FROM INGENIO CONSUELO VIVA LOS ROBLES
Over 4200 professional hits. INCREDIBLE. I remember being amazed how he was able to be so good with such an awkward stance.
Saw Julio play as a 44-45 year old i think as a kid for the Braves. Who could forget that stance!
" the money will always be there, but it's for the love of the game"
So true, only if other athletes can apply this model.
WORD!!!
how about team owners? why is it players are criticized for going for big contracts, but when scumbag owners try to hold a city hostage and demand tax money for a building to conduct their privately owned business in, people support the owners?
