Yes yes yes, he is my favorite, too. His successor, Neil Dudgeon, I never 'got'. I watched three, four episodes and quit. Oh ... Ben Jones, ey? I love him, too.
I am currently catching up on the seasons and I love all the characters and yes, Ben Jones/Jason Hughes is my favourite too! I love both the Barnaby cousins, Tom and John! love this series. sending greetings from South Africa!
@@mssramsunker4820 well the world certainly is smaller, and we are all the better for it. I'm in USA, but this and a few other shows from England are watched so often by me, that my phone algorithm thinks I'm a Brit!😂😂

I like the first Barnaby and his first sidekick, then Ben the most. I have watched all of them. I still watch them over and over on Roku and Ion. I watch the newer ones on PBS.
John Nettles was the best actor to play Inspector Barnaby. A well-directed series, which I regret they don't make anymore. Producers were once professionals. Thanks for the nice reminder. 👏👏
We gave up on the programme a couple of series after Nettles went, mainly because the peaceful traditional English villages featured were suddenly inundated with ethnic minorities which spoiled the atmosphere and removed one of the programme`s main attractions.
Yes it was never the same. The original was some how mystical. Yes the sudden change to ethnic diversity when there was no reason for it stopped me watching the series. I think they get grants for employing more racially diverse people . The series just became another z cars type police show, nothing special anymore. Even the characters were impossible to like and the situations were just unbelievable. The new series always ended with Barnaby going off on some self righteous rant that became tedious. It became just another soap opera. 😢
It has to be John Nettles but I love all of them as they seem so real. Gavin and Ben were great. Gwillam Lee was excellent.I think Kate the one that did the Autopsies was lovely. I loved Joyce and Cully and Fiona Dolman is lovely too. I wish John Nettles Joyce and Cully could sometimes come back in guest appearances.
I love them all. And I especially enjoy seeing many of the supporting actors show up in other British film. Pride and Prejudice for one. And the surprise to see another appear in Top Gear. Such talent.
Ummm....you have the great John Nettles on there but haven't mentioned Jane Wymark, the daughter of the late actor Patrick Wymark and Olwen Wymark, who was a playwright. And she was on stage for years, her debut on telly, if I'm not mistaken, was a show called Roommates ,the episode called "Susan" with Nigel Havers and a classic episode called "Baby". She is still doing plays and teaches drama in, I think, Manchester. And Laura Howard is said to be married with 2 kids. Why leave these 2 out?
Indeed - Jane Wymark was almost TOO good, in that she "blended" her role so perfectly that it was easy to miss the multiple nuances and highlights to the character, not only of Tom, but of the villages and events in which she participated. Subtle but highly effective.
I am really enjoying the writing and acting of the new Barnaby Midsomer Murders. There's nothing wrong with what came before but I feel the series has continued to be relevant twenty years on and that is an achievement.
I often went to sleep in the first series with John Nettles, but I find Neil Dudgeon so interesting and the stories are still amazing, I sit on the edge of my seat until the end , I’m in competition with my husband trying to guess the ending , we are both wrong many times !
I loved finding out that Nick Hendrix's wife appeared on the show with him. John Nettles as Barnaby has a special place all by himself. The series overall with all the wonderful actors is one of the best of all time, IMO. American here who watches them over and over. Acting, stories, dialog, settings all superb.
Neil Dudgeon was so hot as a young actor. I'm in love with all the characters and have watched the series over again. I loved Jane Whitmark. Interesting she didn't do much more than this series.
Jason Hughes is my favorite of all the actors! Something about him🤗 Everyone meshed on the shows and seemed to enjoy working together. I just discovered MM a couple years ago and it has been a FUN RIDE!!! 🇺🇸💥🎬
I love Neil Dudgeon and the marital set up with Fiona Dolman, their little girl and their dogs. I also like sidekick Nick Hendrix who plays Jamie Winter. However, I think the whole series of Midsomer Murders has been great and I am still rewatching them.
@@justmejustme1245 I watch on PBS. Every Friday night. I live in Milwaukee Wisconsin so it’s on the public broadcast station they have a website called Passport you might be able to access.
An excellent actor and was never bored by his films. Absolutely loved his performances in Black Hawk Down, Relic, Heat and Saving Private Ryan. Very saddened by his sudden death, my deepest thoughts and condolences go to his two children, nearest, and dearest ones. Thank you, farewell, god bless and R.I.P. In memorium of late Tom Sizemore. 👋👋👋♥️💋🙏👑🇬🇧
Watching the whole series once again. John Nettles is irreplaceable but Dudgeon has quietly taken over and is doing a great job. Joyce n Cully acted so naturally and we’re invaluable to the show. All the Sarge actors did very good supporting roles with Jason Hughes outstanding. Each individual actor in their roles were really great in keeping the series together and the directing was spot on. The best British crime series ever and I wish it continues for many more years
Loved the show, especially with Nettles and the first few episodes with Dudgeon at the helm, but after a promising start the show has become an exercise in box ticking, some episodes resembling Eastenders.
That's the trouble, they've tried to make the villages into a mini-London with Black and Asian communities. In real life there aren't any black and Asian residents in these villages. They look totally out of place to anyone that actually lives in a rural area, box-ticking is the name of the game though. To hell with realism.

Midsomer Murders is the best show to ever hit television. Keep up the good work.
I love John Nettles. I was shocked to find out his age. I thought he was in his 60s when he retired. I watch Midsommer Murders over and over again!
I agree about everything you said here😊
He was 68 when he made the last Midsomer Murders, he was born in 1943.

My favourite is also Tom Barnaby
Gotta admit it, Ben Jones/Jason Hughes is my fave! I still watch (from all seasons) a couple episodes from this show at least once a week.
I think that the character Barnaby like assitant Ben Jones the most of all, to some he was rather indifferent and one, Scott he more or less disliked.
