Sarah, as someone who has enjoyed this music for the past 50 plus years, it is nice to see you genuinely appreciating the beauty of the Dead's flowing, rocking, creative music.
They made music out of the LOVE OF IT... Money was not the prime motivator... therefore we get awesome pure music not tampered with by a "music industry".
I was at these shows. I was at school in Des Moines, & made the drive, & boy was it worth it. They played the best version of Samson & Delilah to open set two at the UNIDome, mainly because Bobby’s mic didn’t work when he started the first verse, so Jerry played a 5 minute solo while it was replaced. Awesome shows. ✌️❤️🎶
Lucky you, Al! I was way too young then, unfortunately. That Samson is INTENSE. And the Scarlet > Fire from 2/5 is one of the best ever; might even be my favorite all-time.
@@johnr.8275 One of the few benefits of being old is that I got to see a lot of great performers. It started with the Doors in February 1970 and the most recent was Gov’t. Mule last Summer. Looking forward to Tedeschi Trucks Band later this year.✌️❤️🎶
@@alpetrocelli4465 Enjoy them, Al. I have seen TTB a few times and they always bring it. TTB with The Black Crowes in 2013 was incredible. And The Doors? You lucky bastard! My uncle and I are both huge Doors fans.
Perhaps the greatest live band ever. Other great songs by The Grateful Dead include: "Bertha", "Ripple", "Truckin'", "Uncle John's Band", "Scarlet Begonias ", "Sugar Magnolia", "Shakedown Street", "Fire On The Mountain", "Casey Jones" and a fantastic remake of The Rascals' "Good Lovin'".
Great times Sarah wish you could have been there, you would have fit right in, take it from an old Deadhead. To bad you cannot stop time, I would have stopped it in the 70's.
The Dead and offshoots containing members of the Dead played on just about every continent. And they played most types of music at all of those places. People just listening to radio songs miss out on so much more the Dead played (and created, that many other artists used in their songs). Their drum section is what got me listening. For every person who gets hooked (and there are literally millions) there is a different reason. Yet, we all share the love of music and comeraderie.
There is always room for another fan on the bus, I got on in 1980 and I've been there ever since. "The Bus" comes from the song (That's It For) The Other One, "The bus came by and I got on, that's when it all began, there was Cowboy Neil at the wheel of the bus to Nevereverland." Cowboy Neil is Neil Cassidy, a true American character and friend of the band. Welcome aboard Sarah, and bring your dance moves with you.
I did Bears acid with the band in 1971. I saw him sitting on the stage with his feet hanging over the edge. This took place at the local pro hockey .So we were face to face and he was smiling at me and I asked him if I could sit behind the amps and he let me. I got to the first space that I could get between. first person I find is Bear dropping liquid acid onto the backs of people’s hands and then they licked it off. I stuck my hand out and he put four big drops on it and I licked it off. I got a seat behind Pigpen and sat there for both sets. At one point I had wandered over to check out their gear and Jerry came over and passed me a big fat joint. We passed it back and forth long enough for people to see what we were doing and I thanked Jerry and went back to my spot behind Pigpen. I asked Bear if I could get some and he hooked me up with his local dealer. I met a lot of people in the underground acid world. I did this for years. Thanks Bear and Jerry and the other band members.⚡️🎸⚡️
Thank you for doing reaction to Grateful Dead. Also great would be the "Eyes of the World" from 3-30-90 or "Dancin' In The Streets" from 5-8-77. It's all on UA-cam.
The Dead didn't play Eyes on 3/30/90, they played it the night before...and it's the most overrated GD this side of 5/8/77. It's like the Dead with Kenny G. Give me a '73 Eyes any day of the week over that one.....
My very top Grateful Dead track is "Ripple", I want that played as I shuffle off this mortal coil. Their other awesome tracks are "Truckin'", "Uncle John's Band" & "Sugar Magnolia" Happy Journey through the music we matured with.
I love "Ripple", too...but the song after it on American Beauty is even better. The two paired together are lovely. I wish had done it that way live more often (I think they only did them in the AB sequence once live, at the Fillmore West 8/18/70).
Saw the Dead, the Other Ones and Further many, many times since the early-80s. The music has a certain charm and it's never 'perfect' live. Fans of the Dead would rather have stylish imperfections and nuances every show. Jerry's guitar, voice and Phil's bass bombs were fan favorites. Bill Kruetzman's drums/percussions superb. So nice to hear Donna-Jean Godchaux at backing vocals. She is a force of nature.
Sarah, you enjoy Jerry's solos so much, you should check out some songs by Jerry Garcia Band, where he played a lot of different material from the Grateful Dead
Here comes the magic!
Build it build it and then break it!!!
Sarah, as someone who has enjoyed this music for the past 50 plus years, it is nice to see you genuinely appreciating the beauty of the Dead's flowing, rocking, creative music.
Ms. Dengler, you are almost dancing like a carefree deadhead hippie. :) Let the music move ya.
They made music out of the LOVE OF IT... Money was not the prime motivator... therefore we get awesome pure music not tampered with by a "music industry".
Jerry was such a gem. Long live the spirit

"here comes the magic..." love it
Thanks so much SD.!!! Great reaction. Welcome to our family!!
"There comes the magic", indeed! Very nice to see that people can still be moved, (literally) by The Dead.
They made such great music!!
Perhaps the greatest live band ever.

'Wheel', 'Box of Rain', 'China Cat Sunflower/I Know You Rider', 'Dark Star', 'St. Stephen', 'Eyes of the World'...the list seems endless.
Music is a form of magic..and these boys knew how to conjure it for sure.
The song could be about the good old days when things were harder, simpler, poorer, and absolutely better in every single way
Except for the death, the poverty, the suffering and the hopelessness.
Can't go wrong with the Grateful Dead I telling you
Love seeing people still
Rocking to this! A beautiful face, enjoying a lovely song!
You are just scratching the surface. Enjoy the ride!

Here comes the magic is right !
A Robert Hunter story about Americana transported through a Jerry Garcia melody to your ears.
Gone are the days when the ox fall down,
Take up the yoke and plow the fields around.
Gone are the days when the ladies said' "Please,
Gentle Jack Jones won't you come to me."
Brown-eyed women and red grenadine,
The bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean.
Sound of the thunder with the rain pouring down,
And it looks like the old man's getting on.
1929 when he stepped to the bar, drank to the dregs of the whiskey jar.
1930 when the wall caved in, he made his way selling red-eyed gin.
Brown-eyed women and red grenadine,
The bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean.
Sound of the thunder with the rain pouring down,
And it looks like the old man's getting on.
Delilah Jones was the mother of twins,
Two times over and the rest were sins.
Raised eight boys, only I turned bad,
Didn't get the lickin's that the other ones had.
Brown-eyed women and red grenadine,
The bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean.
Sound of the thunder with the rain pouring down,
And it looks like the old man's getting on.
Tumble down shack in Big Foot county.
Snowed so hard that the roof caved in.
Delilah Jones went to meet her God,
And the old man never was the same again.
Daddy made whiskey and he made it well.
Cost two dollars and it burned like hell.
I cut hickory just to fire the still,
Drink down a bottle and be ready to kill.
Brown-eyed women and red grenadine,
The bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean.
Sound of the thunder with the rain pouring down,
And it looks like the old man's getting on.
Sound of the thunder with the rain pourin' down,

Looks like you get it. Enjoy the ride. It's wonderful!!!
Here (hear) it comes !
It is always already there.
the GD stories are so vivid.
I like your chair dancing
She had me at, "Here comes the magic!"
I think that I quickly assessed 800 or so different songs by the Dead. There's something for everyone and it's difficult to get bored.
You're a sweetheart. Thanks for all your great music input🎉.

I would add the Morning Dew from 5/8.

Just enjoy what you're hearing. That's the entire point. That being said, welcome aboard,

I cut hickory just to fire the stilll… drink down a bottle and you’re ready to kill!1. Hooooooooolly shifty. Makes ME SMILE1
"the bottle was dusty but the liqour was clean"
WONDERFUL!!!! try alpine valley wisconsin 1989 called DOWNHILL FROM HERE it is beyond the pale and i was there!!
I only just got into GD about a couple months ago. Man… now all I wish is to go back to those 70s with Jerry…
It is about the great depression.
Anyone get the meaning of “1930 when the wall caved in ?” Roll away the door ⚡️🎸⚡️
A new Dead-Head is born!
This show is on my phone.
Delilah Jones went to meet her God, and the old man never was the same again... Dam that's deep.
Someone get this girl some tie dye!
Think William Faulkner.
What's the date?
🙂
So American folk.. Appalachia
in the pocket
I would suggest Kenny G..❤
The lyrics would flow much better if they were "brown eyed broads".😁👍
Actually, it would completely fuck up the cadence, whereas "women" fits perfectly.
Brown-Eyed Girl, not Women... It's a classic. I can't believe anyone has never heard it before.
Van Morrison did Brown-Eyed Girl.
Umm...did you watch the video? The Grateful Dead indeed wrote and performed a song called "Brown-Eyed Women."
