- Sony's procurement of its first-ever mobile studio isn't something to get excited about, and we're not even gonna pretend to try. However, the acquisition of Savage Game Studios does suggest a new strategy for PlayStation, one that seeks to protect its various flanks even if it's not yet necessarily begun to fight on said front. Mobile gaming is a good example: They've said they've wanted to do something, and they have, but they don't acknowledge or pay attention to anything that results. It's as if it's not very important, but clearly, that's all about to change. We discuss. The reason PS first party games get scrunitized is because, they've been constantly hammering in our heads this entire generation, that their games are SOOOOOO high quality, they HAVE to be 80€ and they CAN'T be on the service day one, because of how high quality they are.
High enough quality to justify a price hike? No. Higher quality than the shite Microsoft puts out on Gamepass? For the most part, yeah.
Sony games are so high quality that they become forgettable in 20 minutes.
@@daksans6764 I think you and the others before you are missing the point. It's not about the mark of quality Sony does or doesn't hit... or what the quality is in comparison to Xbox. It's about marketing. Sony persistently sells a product under the advertisement that their quality of experience is top shelf. While good, it hits different once you find out they are taking their mid-shelf product in a plastic bottle and just pouring it in a different bottle and hiking the price.

Colin, you have to play Dishonored. It's one of the best games of all time and easily in my top 10. It's not really similar to Bioshock at all though. Besides the weapon in one hand and powers in the other, it plays completely differently. 10 years later and Dishonored still puts most games to shame in regards to player choice and creativity. Dishonored 2 and Death of the Outsider are also great. Oh and the Dishonored dlcs are high quality story expansions. Just an all around great franchise.

I mean this well and truly, the Tencent partial acquisition of FromSoftware was some of the most disheartening shit I've heard in a long time. From is one of my favorite developers. Does the dollar speak more than the suffering of others? Sad times, really.
I know im late but for me the argument about “accessibility options” is that its will warp what a game is, changing its core experience. So as long as i can turn the options off im all for it but as soon as its “baked-into” the game as opposed to a toggle its a big no no for me.
To add, a lot of them have the option turned on by default and are just obnoxious. Like in Far cry 6, the game screams at you in robot voice "Press A to Start!" on the main screen you can't turn off, even if you have the voiced menu option off.
Pretty sure Activision doesn't own Sekiro and just published it here in the west.

Well we know according to Jim Ryan's statements that Xbox agreed to keep CoD on Playstation 3 years after Sonys current promotional deal AB ends which should be like 5 years from now.
That's plenty of time for Sony to create a rival ip. Who knows maybe Xbox will keep publishing CoD even after the 5 yeara but a 5 year assurance is pretty good.
I doubt Xbox is going to sign something that guarantees CoD on PlayStation indefinitely. PlayStation will have to accept it, its not like they really have a choice. They are the only ones against this deal from an industry perspective. They don't have the power to stop it and the deal will eventually go through. Do you take the 5 years and adapt? Or do you try to make it more difficult to make this acquisition happen prolonging the inevitable.

Sony actually has a really popular mobile game in the form of fate/grand order. It's made 5.4+ billion which makes it one of the top 10 highest grossing mobile games of all time. It's made by delightworks which Sony bought but is part of the music division.
I think the way Sony is handeling the PC and mobile side is smart. They aren't taking away resources from first party so the devs don't lose development time to making a PC or mobile port.

TLOU has been on 3 generations of consoles. They should just double down and remake it every generation at this point.
I think Telltale type games would be good on mobile. Anything that doesn’t require twitchy refined controls to play.
Other games I think could work are beat ‘‘em up type games like TMNT or press button at right moment type games. There was this game back in the day called Bust a Groove or Move in Japan that I was totally addicted to. It was a dance battle type game where you pressed combo buttons to the rhythm of the music. I would love if this game came back and was mobile. Also games like Stray I feel could work on mobile as well, smaller type experiences kind of games.

Listen, all I'm saying, in regards to the price of TLOU Part I, is that the Mafia 1 remake was $40 at launch and TLOU Remake is $70.
The Mafia 1 Remake was essentially a brand new game compared to the original.
TLOU Part I is, for the most part, just a visual upgrade.
Price point yes you can compare mafia remake to the last of us part 1 and but from a visual and gameplay perspective it’s dumb to compared the two games.Mafia 1 came on the ps2 in 2002 the original game is outdated thats why the remake is more impressive visuals and gameplay wise because they can do so much improvements when a game is old and outdated.Thats not the case for the last of us the game came out 2013 and they remastered it in 2014 even if you played the original game on the ps3 the game still looks good and plays good so you wouldn’t see a huge jump from the original to remake because the game is still recent and its not old enough to warrant a remake. You can compare the last of us 1 remake to Demon Souls remake because those 2 games came the same generation
it's alot of die hard defenders ultimately for me last of us remastered is the definitive version it has decent framerate and visual quality. same story and dlc and outside of visuals its just not a justified purchase at least for me.

Armed Fantasia looks great but Penny Blood is probably my most anticipated game ever. I'm a huge Shadow Hearts fan and I'm really excited to finally get another horror JRPG
Gears of War has a 94 metacritic & Gears of War Ultimate has an 82. It was $40 had MP and gave access to Gears 1, 2, 3, & Judgment.
AND it had added campaign content that was cut from the original 360 version.

I enjoyed deathloop for a few weeks, but all it did was make me want to play Dishonored 2. Honestly, Dishonored 2 is a superior game in every aspect in my opinion. The World building in it, and the style. The incredible music. There's just nothing else like it.

Listen, I'm not a fan of Peacock or The Office leaving Netflix but I can whole heartedly 100% recommend the superfan episodes of The Office that are on there. They are recut episodes with tons of deleted content put back in them and are absolutely incredible and the closest a huge Office fan can get to watching it again for the first time. I recommend a trial and blitz those or find some way to watch them, they are 110% worth it.

I also enjoy the superfan episodes but they are a bit overhyped. On most episodes the extra time doesn't really change the cut. Instead the majority of time its just a new cold open or extra retakes at the end of the episode.

Strongly disagree with Colin's "Demon's Souls was made by a team not as aesthetically talented as Naughty Dog". I'd argue that the overall art design and aesthetics of games like Bloodborne and Elden Ring is superior to any of Naughty Dog's games (Bloodborne in particular has some of the best art, creature and environment design I've ever seen in a videogame). And even in Demon's Souls, Tower of Latria is a work of art. What should've been said is that Demon's Souls was not made by a team as good at graphical fidelity and technical details as Naughty Dog. Though what one aesthetically values in their art varies from person to person, and I don't value Naughty Dog's hyper-realistic style (though I did always love their design of the cordyceps infection).

I'm glad people are separating accessibility options from gameplay modifiers, aka difficulty options, cheats etc. I agree with Chris, I think options are fine but they aren't for every game. Look at Papers Please - wouldn't that game be lesser if you could just get everyone through passport control every time? Policing how other people play is lame, but so is insisting a game include something that goes against the experience.
How do you not mention Soul Calibur 2 as an example of console exclusive content. That one DID impact my decision on which console I played on.

My problem with the last of us part 1 is the cost 70 dollars is just too much for a remake to me for a game that already had a remaster on the ps4.

Scores are not dumb. Scores are not as accurate as a written room but that’s because the score is literally meant to be Quick easy to read minimal effort to understand. If you see a thing you know what that means if you see a one you know what that means. Know if you want to know why something is a 10 that’s a deeper discussion there are games that were tens that were different than the last of us I believe Celeste got a 10 totally different than the last of us the reasons why it got it 10 were different than the last of us but it still deserved 810. The only way for someone to know what was different from the pixel game versus the full 3-D the last of us what’s to read a review if you did you would understand these games were told any different from one another you would even understand that if you had a love for pixelated platform or one game was for you if you had a love for story driven 3-D narrative swift dynamic gun game play another game was for you. That’s why review scores are neither good nor bad they’re just a way of expressing information to people. If you want a full review you read the review if you want something quick you just look at the score. I think Call In understands that a full review read by the consumer is far more beneficial but just because we’d like to look at review scores don’t mean you should say they’re unnecessary or dumb They have their merits it’s just we often rely on them a little too much when it comes to purchasing or even talking about a game there is a new wants there is subtlety when discussing a work of art. To say A Picasso painting is a masterpiece that’s the she was in one word to describe it but to have someone go into detail as to why it is a masterpiece well that’s different that’s insightful. The same is true for video game reviews to say a game is a masterpiece is one thing to actually going discuss why it’s a masterpiece is another. You could get bullet points as to why it’s a masterpiece again quick like a review score but providing more detail to a consumer or you could literally write several pages worth of material as to why it’s a masterpiece more information for the consumer but it also takes time for the consumer to consume. Consumers have their preferences and US reviewer‘s have to meet them where they want to be met.

I’m starting to wonder if Square Enix invested in the most titles they’ve ever had in development because the Japanese Yen is so weak. When a handful of those larger investments didn’t pay off, they had no choice but to pawn Eidos. The lack of tourism is crumbling the Japanese economy, but the government is being so protective of its citizens about letting people in that it can’t improve. Seems like having your money invested is less risky than holding onto it there.

TLOU didn't need to be what people are calling a remake. To compare TLOU 88 score to why Demon Souls score was higher than what is was when it first launch is the most stupidest comparison. One came out on PS2 2009... the other 2013. Which one really needed an overhaul and if it did receive that overhaul the review score would be greater? 🤔 👀👀 I would say Demon Souls since obviously is was the older and WAY!... more looking rougher game that warranted a SUPER!... graphical upgrade. As a playstation player can't no one argue TLOU wasn't just a cash grab and Sony did this to test a future practice of theirs. Another thing is look how they treat the people who actually bought the game a 3rd time for $100. Crushed boxes on delivery and no refund or new one sent. YEA!...they really showed you how much they care about your purchase. 👀

Dustin's concern about Star Ocean is right on the money for me. Diofield, Valkyrie Elysium, and Star Ocean are all games I am very much looking forward to, but all of them coming out in an around 1 month window? Bleh. As someone who likes his niche action games I will be skipping out on Diofield for the time being even though it's cool as heck based on the demo. Also this problem is worse because we're also getting Bayonetta 3 and the PS4/5 version of No More Heroes 3 in that same time frame.
I hate how so many games just get dropped in specific parts of the year. Some of these games really should have come out in the summer.

I'm hesitant to play The Last of Us for one reason. The experience can only go down for me. The original Last of Us is one of my favorite games of all time. It's a masterpiece.

1:14:00 exactly this. Anyone can see what MS is doing just buying devs/IP from other sectors and often ruining them is anti competitive. Xbox can't even handle their own flagship IP well.

Xbox have failed Halo imo and I have my own concerns with management issues but their other IP's have been really good from my experience. FH5, Gears Tactics, Age of Empires 4, Flight Sim and Grounded are great games. As for buying devs and IP's, that's the same strategy Sony's used lol except that they've historically gone after third party studios too locking timed exclusivity deals, a practice Sony regularly engages in to this very day. Since they came with the PS1 they bought studios and their ip's. Nintendo are different because they formed many of their development teams in house back in the 80's and 90's.

Listening from the UK is constantly infuriating when you are speaking about food. First it was you guys wondering what the black bits were in decent vanilla ice cream (it is what vanilla is, it is the seeds from the seed pod), now it is talking about a sandwich. Look, the sandwich was named after some British aristocrat (John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich) and that is totally different to a chicken burger (which can come in many forms). It's just that the quality of chicken is likely to be better when cut off a bird and used in different forms in a burger instead of questionable chicken mince, of the type used in nuggets. Chicken burgers are on pretty much every gastropub and burger menu here. You can also get very good burgers which use different types of cheese. One of the best I had was actually from a steak restaurant called flatrion and that was bluecheese, but then mst places don't have that kind of quality, so I actually go for the classic American style burgers - french's mustard, gherkins, and the like (with US style burger cheese)

I think scores are fine for original games. Remakes and other forms of re-releases, no need. Games like FF7 Remake that are virtually new games, sure.
I'm a patron at the 5 dollar level. So why do I keep hearing ads read by the boys during the show? I mean, it's not a big deal to just fast forward but why pitch "ad free" when it's not?
This will eventually be released for everyone for free. The audio version has no ads, and the video description on patreon has time stamps to skip the ads.
