I read all of the Imaro books many years ago. At the time, a black barbarian hero was not very popular. But it surprised me that the Imaro stories did not gain in popularity. I have to assume that most people never came into contact with the author's work. Imaro is a hero very much in the tone of Robert E. Howard's Conan. His is a fantasy barbarian warrior.. All of the action takes place in a fictional Africa, possibly of thousands of years ago. This Africa is a land of myth and legend, who have never seen or heard of Europeans. In fact, in the world that this Africa exists in, there may well be no Europe. Like the Hyborian age of Conan, this Africa is a land of magic and monsters, of deadly animals that we both recognize and not. Cast out from his mother's tribe, among whom he was never welcome because of his unknown father, Imaro becomes a wandering warrior and the stories follow his adventures. Very much like REH, Charles Sunders at first wrote of Imaro in unrelated stories, but eventually he gave the character a history and a background. He is the son of a great king in a far empire, and his adventures eventually bring him to the kingdom of his father and his future of a crown. Just as with Conan, all of the adventures of Imaro are well worth reading. I am only sorry that this fantasy hero is not more well known. Unfortunately, this audio book is the only one of the entire series that exists. All the other books seem to be out of print and unavailable. This is especially a shame, as if you like this book, you will not be able to find any more of the author's stories about this character. I highly recommend this book.

I'm I the only one gritting my teeth at the blatant use of google for the Swahili words? It wouldn't have taken much to hire an East African to help, but whatever, I'm willing to give the story a shot
