Love this movie, Doctor Detroit is one of the underrated films of the 1980s. A funny film, still funny to this day, like this dance scene and James Brown singing an awesome song.
Yes. One of Dan Ackroyd's best films. It was one of the first R rated films that I saw as a kid (my mom rented it because she couldn't take me to see it in the theater.
"Doctor WHO WHO Doctor we want Doctor WHO WHO Doctor WHO WHO Doctor....." I remember when this movie originally played on cable in about 1984 and it was the first time I saw Fran D. Loved her way of talking.
I can remember this being on Movie 5 at 11:30 on a Friday Night when I was young. Movie 5 was on TV5, WEWS in Cleveland. There were many rare and funny movies on Friday and Saturday Nights. What a cast led by Dan Aykroyd.
Classic Movie ...... James Brown left a hole in the stage as always after he threw down !!!! And the supporting cast of T.K. Carter, Lynn Whitfield, Fran Drescher, Donna Dixon, and Howard Hessman - ( Dr. Johnny Fever On WKRP ) were excellent casting choices.
There was this period in the early 1980s where Dan Akroyd so wanted to be a black man. Blues Brothers was about a couple of white dudes, played by him and Jim Belushi, who internalized African American blues subculture. Dr. Detroit was Akroyd's idiosyncratic spin on the blaxploitation genre where a white square becomes a weird jive talking pimp. And then there's Trading Places where his yuppie Wall Street douchebag character switches identities with a black, homeless conman played by Eddie Murphy.
What many seem to miss about movies like this is, it's prior to the AIDS mania. Prior to that, there was a sexual revolution happening in the USA. But the AIDS crisis brought about a backlash and return somewhat to conservative ideas regarding sex.
Just watched another video (from music awards) and I swear I don't know what on earth made this scene suddenly pop in my head. Especially since I really can't remember much of anything about the movie except I thought it was funny and this dance scene which I absolutely loved!! Dan Akroyd really played the heck out of it and cracked me up lol!!
Love the movie especially this scene here where Dan really performed on the dance floor! But for me James really steals the show with the splits on Que with the band that really sets this movie apart from the others! Very ENTERTAINING MOVIE!
As a kid I LOVED this movie, I was 4 and 5 watching this and had NO CLUE what in the WORLD it was truly about.....hookers.....its still a great movie but I was just into the character of Dr Detroit
Holy shit!!!! I have not seen this movie in years!!!! Doc-tor De-troit!!!!! I love this movie for Danny Ackroyd, T.K Carter, and Fran Drescher!!! Too much!!!!! Did any one notice Anthony Kedis' (Red Hot Chilli Peppers) daddy in the the last few minutes of the the movie 'bidding 500' on the Doctor? LOL!!! Blackie Dammitt? He's in there, too ! Love him from National Lampoon 'Class Reunion'! The 80's were so-o much fun!!!
Watched just now on STARZ Encore 06-20-21 I was a junior in ‘83 when this came out. Mtv had a contest giving away the Dr.’s $25,000 limo from the movie! A limo!🤣🤣🤣
(Laughing My Nikes Off) I almost forgot how silly this movie is.....I love "Doctor Detroit".....we never got that sequel we was suppose to follow...."The Wraith Of Mom"....never less I think I try to find the full movie on my movie stream app.....❤♠️♦️🖤♣️
anyways else notic Dr.Detroit kinda sounded like his other character the Conehead lol this came on last nite randomly on hbo and caught me by surprise..I NEVER heard of this shit lol and I'm usually up on all the ill movies! funny tho
Oh and Also Triva about the Second Movie as said by Fran :) Man: Why didnt they make a second DR DETROIT Fran: Well we were told that if we made a profit we would be alowed to do a squeel we had an 8 million buggett and the movie made 8million 100 thousand we made a profit like the contract, we had signed said a small one but we still made one so we could of made the second one if we wanted and Dan was writing it but Dan got a better offer and scraped the idea
oooo ooooo Doctor.... We want the Doctor!!!! My brother and I hired this from the video shop when we were young teens.. Had no idea about the subject matter but it was Dan akroyd and rated M so Mum probably thought it can't be that bad. I really don't remember much about the movie, except this part, only because of the Doctor chant. It made me and my brother pee our pants laughing... we couldn't help but always say it for about a week. Was reminising about this and Cactus Jack, these obscure films from the 80s with uber famous stars that kids today will never probably know about or ever see... This is what Gen-X means when we say we were truly the last free generation. It was the last time that the bottom line was in full control of the entertainment industry, and risks were taken for the sake of alchemical art. I honestly blame Fred Durst and Osama... Those 2 wreaked a synergistic energy that sucked the fun out of it all...
@Ronlg1 they had a full splash at the end to showcase that there would be a part 2, but because this wasn't a success as they hoped, it never came to be
IS'NT FUNNY HOW YOU GET OLD the beauty of a woman just fades away when you're in your late 50ish and then your body starts to get wrinkled and saggy at 65 but fran descher is still looking good & hot for age at age 54
Love this movie, Doctor Detroit is one of the underrated films of the 1980s. A funny film, still funny to this day, like this dance scene and James Brown singing an awesome song.

"The Doctor is in" I still love this movie. nearly thirty years later.
I love this dance seen I wish I can get some folks together and do this dance with me. Love 80's
This movie bombed and yet it's one of my favorite childhood memories. Love it !!
Look at that split at 2:20! And Mr. Brown was 50 years old here!
I went back and rewatch because of your post. Wow !!
So many movies filmed at least partly in Chicago, and this one doesn't get enough props!
"Doctor WHO WHO Doctor we want Doctor WHO WHO Doctor WHO WHO Doctor....." I remember when this movie originally played on cable in about 1984 and it was the first time I saw Fran D. Loved her way of talking.
Exhibit #57 of what will NEVER be seen in Hollywood again.
This is the best version of the song I've ever heard. I rented this with a friend back in the 12th grade and we loved it, especially this scene!
I love this movie!!I remember seeing it wa back when it came out.
This is an amazing section of the Movie!! A TOTAL CLASSIC!!
Dan, what happened to Dr. Detroit 2, the Wrath of Mom? Always loved this movie.
That dance scene will be going down at my wedding. I swear it on my 80's birth heritage!
A great classic 80s movie....one of my favorites !!!
Dan Aykroyd is the true genius & Legend from SNL!!! Dude is the best 👌
I love this part😂
I am a big Dan aykroyd fan and, after watching this scene, I want to watch this...
No one can call themselves a Dan Akroyd fan unless they've seen Doctor Detroit.
@@ramonalejandrosuare exactly
Amazing dancing!
They can throw out “Casablanca”, “Gone with the Wind”, “Maltese Falcon” and the rest. This is the best film ever!!! Pure genius.
If my wedding reception isn't like this, I don't want it.

LOVED this flick when I was a kid. Good memories :)
I wish I was at that party...
THE ONLY SCENE WORTH WATCHING?! This movie is a classic!
The ultimate Players Ball on film!
What many seem to miss about movies like this is, it's prior to the AIDS mania. Prior to that, there was a sexual revolution happening in the USA. But the AIDS crisis brought about a backlash and return somewhat to conservative ideas regarding sex.
James Brown. That man had it and never lost it.
Just watched another video (from music awards) and I swear I don't know what on earth made this scene suddenly pop in my head. Just one of the many great scenes that made this movie such an underrated classic as expressed by so many of us in the comments.
My first taste of James Brown as a Kid. What a Way to start a life of FuNk!!!
Thanks for the post to help share the Memories.
Early 80's Fran Drescher...smokin' hot.

A limo!🤣🤣🤣
Ladies and gentlemen, the one and only JAMES BROWN!!!
So wrong but so good. Good, fun 80's movie.
about time for that sequel
(Laughing My Nikes Off)
I almost forgot how silly this movie is.....I love "Doctor Detroit".....we never got that sequel we was suppose to follow...."The Wraith Of Mom"....never less I think I try to find the full movie on my movie stream app.....❤♠️♦️🖤♣️
"But the Dr. doesn't exist! There is no Dr.!.....He does if you believe in him brother!" yeah, it was a little corny, but this was a damn good scene!
NO way ~ the 1st mom face off was classic ~
Excellent movie !!!!
anyways else notic Dr.Detroit kinda sounded like his other character the Conehead lol this came on last nite randomly on hbo and caught me by surprise..I NEVER heard of this shit lol and I'm usually up on all the ill movies! funny tho
Donna Dixon was so freakin' smokin' in this movie. I guess Ackroyd thought so too as they were married shortly after.
So I'm @ work and I get up to use the lavatory & this song popp'd in my head lol I remember this as a kid. The song was very catchy. lol
fantastic movie fantastic scene
I dont know why..But i still love this movie
dan akroyd you play me so well
funny as hell when he is the southern lawyer
Classic from my warped childhood!
@Notime4awatch I also loved watching this movie as a kid!!! I wish they had it on youtube.
Try the library.
LOL awesome. I'm gonna make one of my white buddies do this scene for halloween.
I don't know why but I always loved this movie, Maybe I'm warped too LOL
Classic!
Oh and Also Triva about the Second Movie as said by Fran :)
Man: Why didnt they make a second DR DETROIT

I respectfully disagree. The junkyard scene, the courtroom scene and that in which "Smooth" Walker induces Diavolo to beat him up are classic.
oh shit T.K. Carter ...aint seen him in a movie in a while
That's it. I've GOT to find that movie now. The perfect cure for whatever ails ya, pop that movie in and the doctor is in the house!
Diablo...drive my man go, go, go
Of Course this is nothing more than a variation on the nutty Professor......With less Grit.
James Brown's 80s movie career is one of the weirder elements of a very strange decade.
Obviously, you didnt see the movie, since Fran Drescher is not just a back-up dancer in the movie. She is one of the leading characters.
Like to see the bloopers on the damce floor. 😂
@Ronlg1 Now THAT'S the original Funk Doctor!
Is there a reason Doctor Detroit looks like Elton John?
@Ronlg1
LOL, yes that is what it was, its great though that the wicked tones went right over young heads. I wish there was a part 2
yeah, me too!!!! didn't they hint at a part two at the end of the movie?
Wish there had been a sequel
God. NO!😂
I do adjustments to the human spine
love the big hair
dr detroit = elton john 70's
TK Carter at his finest
Back then they had laser disc 😅
Howard Hessman was great in this movie.
Thx Luis
fantastico questo film
0:25 - I'm pretty sure that's a food prep Health & Safety violation in ANY jurisdiction! :D
ah man, that's messed up
They're all cool must be from the 70s, everyone today is listening to that 'crazy' song and it sucks, no adjustments to the spine
@Ronlg1
they had a full splash at the end to showcase that there would be a part 2, but because this wasn't a success as they hoped, it never came to be
lol.. i have the soundtrack to this movie :D
What were they thinking and we let this happen
@ 2:58 reminded me of Morris Day and Jerome.
Not Filmed in Detroit like they said it would be. 😂
IS'NT FUNNY HOW YOU GET OLD the beauty of a woman just fades away when you're in your late 50ish and then your body starts to get wrinkled and saggy at 65 but fran descher is still looking good & hot for age at age 54
@JGordonPanic: that's an awesome idea! Do it!
What the efff is this, im not that young but i sure missed this along the line lol
This is my favorite part in the movie.
I have chicken chains
@CitySkin09 Early 80's Donna Dixon...smokin' hot.
