Thanks but I think I got this sorted, I'm 16 months sober and don't miss anything about it, alcohol is just attractively packaged poison.

Thank you. At 66, I really want to stop. It's not an every day thing for me, but my wine on the porch, loneliness, sadness, and sometimes despair, happens often enough to put me rock bottom, every time I do it.

I drank every evening for 40 yrs due to sadness, loneliness and despair. I thought it might kill me eventually. What I didn’t realise is that I could get so many different conditions that I’d have to live with. I stopped drinking a few years back but I now have liver sclerosis, poly arthritis and osteoporosis and the cancer antigen is megga high. My life is empty and I’m in pain all of the day. I’m housebound and I lost my job. It’s all about blood tests and medical appointments now. Think hard and realise what your life may become!

Translated from other language can help little bit.
A brief description of the sobriety phases
Crises and difficulties in sober sobering drug addicts have learned to treat them as challenges - in my opinion they stand out from other people. They also have better tools to deal with adversity, acquired during and throughout the sobering process.
1 - 14 days - withdrawal phase. There is a rapid drop in the neurotransmitters in the body. Man begins to sober physically. Depending on the level of advancement, this is a very difficult period. A withdrawal period in which many ailments can occur, including alcoholic withdrawal syndrome.
15 - 45 days - the honeymoon phase. An increase in neurotransmitters that causes increased euphoria. After cessation of alcohol withdrawal symptoms, a better mood and hope for a better tomorrow appears. Man begins to optimistically see life in sobriety. It seems to him that the worst is behind him.
46 - 135 days - wall phase. Periodically the neurotransmitters fall again. This is a very dangerous, treacherous period. Seemingly, it seems to be a sober life, however, the mental state is then severely disturbed. Sometimes there is hope for controlled drinking. In other cases, there is a strong doubt in the sense of a sober life. A man is very susceptible to stress, he can not cope with emotions, he has an increased sense of hurt and he tolerates all failures. As the name suggests, it faces resistance, meaning a wall that it can not break through. Statistically, 75% of people come back to drink then.
136 - 365 days - adaptation phase. This is the time when optimism is slowly returning. Sober thinking begins to germinate. Man can gradually come back to reality, start to lay down his life. Thanks to continuous work on oneself, the stabilization of life on various levels increases.
After one year, real sobriety begins for two years. Everything starts to be arranged. Man can undertake increasingly complex tasks. The faith in one's own abilities increases to a large extent. However, it's only after two years that sobriety really begins.
The phases / periods described are, of course, somewhat arbitrary. Everyone is different and reacts differently to ailments, stress and different situations. It is not possible to generalize or apply a typical scheme for all people. All addicts, however, need help. Its scope depends on the specific case, but it can not be neglected.
Forced abstinence. This is the last phase of the crisis. Although we are not yet deciding to part with alcohol, we are afraid of it so much that we are ready to do everything to not fall into his arms again. We know that we can not cope alone - we desperately seek help.
The stage of forced abstinence means that the current way of coping with life with drinking, the current choices and values has fallen into ruins. Fear of drinking forces us to ensure that abstinence lasts as long as possible. And then something calms down: the devil's carousel stops, there is some relief and rest. There are no more problems, with fewer complaints every day. We start to see that if we do not drink, it may work.
Abstinence dominance. This is the stage when the difficulty in maintaining abstinence can be overcome only by completely concentrating on it and sacrificing it. The experience of the first gains from non-conceiving - the arrangement of various issues, satisfaction, and self-strength - show that the total rejection of drinking and everything related to it is the way of life we were looking for. We put it in the first place in our lives and subordinate it to everything else, and abandon what does not serve it, threatens or weakens.
Development. The essence of this stage is to accept that life is full of tasks and difficulties that must be overcome. Our task is to set ourselves goals, search for ways and ways to implement them, continuous learning of the necessary skills and mobilization. In this way, we enrich the repertoire of our abilities, increase the chances of achieving various life goals.

I think I've read about some research done on rats, about rats given diets with saturated fat in it had it's fibrosis reversed. So saturated fat in the diet reversed (healed?) the fibrosis in rats liver, even if the ethanol consumption was continued. My father and brother and uncle died of liver chirrosis, so this is important to me. One thing makes me wondering is that saturated fat was said to be bad for the liver. Why? Did they not want people healed? No more drug profits? This is worth a try, I think.

This really hit home. I was on a bad path and hopefully i don't have too much damage. It's been like 7 years of daily drinking. Part of me would be like "ahh who cares, life sucks" but another part would be like "live your life bro, things will get better". Its like the looney tunes cartoons with an angel and devil on each shoulder.
I'm glad I don't have a cocaine or heroin problem. People are ODing all over the place now. I was doing coke a handful of times the last 3 years but the quality sucked as it went through too many hands by the time i got it. Obviously its retarded to mess with that stuff. Now there is fentanol involved that could kill u real quick. My friend is not the smartest girl and she wanted to drive to downtown Philly and get some on the streets. She said she did that before years ago and its everywhere. So like a dummy i drove down there but got too paranoid that police were hiding and waiting. Also some of those streets are sketchy. Philly is a crazy ass city.
Well now i know i don't really have a choice but to stop.Glad you mentioned eating good and exercising won't save you. I thought that might help. I just never ever thought about cirrhosis being an issue and after seeing some videos and tough comments from others i see more clearly now. People are dying in their 30s from drinking. That is nuts!!! My grandfather died from alcoholism in his 30s. My other grandfather was an abusive drunk until my dad made him stop. Its pure evil.. Alcohol is poison and we've been tricked into drinking it.

Is it true that pain only comes with cirrhosis? It’s told that most of the population with fatty liver does not have pain or symptoms. I’m worried about the mild discomfort in that area.
