What I find completely bullshit is that when he asked for his nightmares to be washed away basically she said yes then at the end she straight up lies and says no. He was tricked how is It alll his fault when they manipulated him into killing his family knowing he’s in a blind rage and knowing what he’s doing and then they wonder why he kills everyone of them . And where is GOD in this as in the father of Jesus ? Have they ever been spoken about ?

I like it when you said, the author's intensions has no power. I like this theory as it blows up a lot of people's minds but at the same i don't want this to be true, after whatever I read in the novels and most that was seen in og games beside gow3, she had empathy towards kratos and cared for him a lot and wanted peace among the gods and kratos and stood by his side, I didn't wanna see one more person screw kratos up, least they could have kept her as it is and whatever greek gods the game showed everyone had evil intensions (ik orkos and pandora are there weren't gods) meanwhile the new gods in the norse games most of the are good and likeable. besides this being a nice theory, i found a lot of contradictions and most of the stuff is based on assumptions. and don't seem/want it to be true after all of the things that happened. I personally I think there two possibilites that i believe, 1. she was good and cared for kratos in the beginning but then she got corrupted after her death/ someone made her corrupt and she did the actions. 2. Gow3 athena is not actually athena, its someone else in disguse who took the form of athena to steal the power of hope from him. Honestly speaking when you consider the possibility of her planning from the start, her behavior was working well all these years, pretending to be "good and caring" she used kratos and planted the seed of the gods in his mind. this driving suspicion away from her side and being the "good" athena her plans were working well, why did she need to change it in gow3? and be so open about the death of zeus and the other gods, even at the end after all of this, she could have waited more or still used kratos in some way by being an "innocent" character. Her personalities of being the long thinker and wise and playing the slow game (for all these years) compared to stupid and arrogant makes less sense to me. now you can say that after everything is done she didn't need to play the innocent game again, but we saw the stupid and arrogant athena even before anything was done, zeus wasn't done. I like the theory of someone else being in athena's disguse in gow3 because it open doors to more characters/gods and better overall plot for future games.
I mean.. Imagine you're the smartest kid in the entire friend group, why won't you trick others and take everything for yourself while no one noticing? It's might sounds like a selfish act but it's a golden opportunity for you
It reminds me of the Athena's scene in God of War 2018 when Kratos say "I am your monster no longer". He may a monster, but whatever happens... it's his business now.
The whole sentence was laughable as it was Athena until GoW3 that had anything to do with him being a psychopath, if anything he was keeping him calmer.
When she is alive, she is good, a good god, you dont believe me?, she saved him as a child and many things else, but when she died and got revived with a new form. she became corrupted, that's why she is evil in GOW 3 and she encouraged kratos to kill gods instead of protecting them like in GOW 2, make kratos her monster, all she ever wanted in gow 3 was POH, the ultimate godly power, so she can be the new ruler of mankind and be the ultimate god, luckily, kratos is not easily to manipulate and he did the right thing by sending the power back to mortals
@@thehermit8723 she never revealed to him that she was his sister, she let ares spare kratos when demios was kidnapped knowing that he was the true marked warrior. She gave him a warning in god of war 2 and told him that he owed her. She made him a god of war despite despite the other gods said.
First of all she was the only good god that cared for kratos genuinely until her death, she wasn't originally planned to be a evil character, they changed that in gow3 and decided to make her a evil character. Why do i think so? because there are so many contradictions to this theory that she planned everything from the start, in gow1 and gow2 it never seemed like that she had a plan to take over olympus. and some of the statments of her that the video is trying to imply that she turned the kratos againts the gods will be flused when you read the novels of gow1 and gow2, reading it you will realize that she genuinely cared for him and didn't have a plan of taking over olympus, because if you try to still make that assumption there will be so many contradictions and stuff will not make sense anymore. The thing that i don't like about this video, that every crime is put upon her without any proof its just accusations, if someone reads the novels will never think like she was using kratos to grain the throne of olympus or never wanted kratos' nightmares to be removed. i understand that not everyone reads the novel which is fine, but information a "game" god of war ascension showed that it was really ares and the furies who put kratos' family in the temple for them to be killed by kratos, so its not even a question of athena having a role (not even need to read the novels to know things). however in this video, without anyproof he accuses her of being responsible for it. Also people need to realized, She was using him in gow3 yes, but before that, kratos worked for her and olympus to avenge his family's death and get rid of his nightmares. nightmares that zeus promised to athena that will be removed and athena made the deal with kratos. but later zeus denied so and athena had argument with zeus and took kratos' side (dialogue such as, he doesn't need forgiveness, he needs decent night sleep, you can't take away this from him after 10 years of service and stuff) : information from the gow1 novel.
I think the biggest piece of possible evidence is the ending After Kratos does that Athena seems upset that it was given to the mortals And as she grabbed the sword her innocent goody two shoes demeanor went from hero to villain as she grabbed the sword and said "you disappoint me spartan" before harshly yanking the sword out of him throwing the now useless weapon down like a toy she got bored with and left Kratos to bleed out
yeah but a lot of other information present in game aswell as novels, doesn't align with the theory of the video. kinda bored now after replying to so many comments 😅 so don't wanna explain what i said, can check my comments from profile..
Few notes A. With Athena making that blatant contradiction in GOW3. It has to mean she was lying intentionally at the end of GOW2 for it to make sense. B. Ghost of Sparta came out the same year as 3. In that game, Thanatos said, "You're a pawn in a game you don't even know is being played". After defeating him, Athena of all people comes out saying Kratos had succeeded. Again, insuating she was lying before, likely knowing Kratos would do the opposite.
@Mr47theTechHacker In Ghost of Sparta, Athena had been telling Kratos to NOT go after his brother. Kratos, of course, does the opposite. At the end, after burying Deimos, Athena appears to tell Kratos that he succeeded in severing his mortal ties to his family, and was ready to truly become a God. Why? She acts as if she had known what Kratos would do, and it was in fact what she wanted him to do. Meaning she could have been lying to him. It could be that, theoretically, she wanted Kratos to snap at the gods if after finding out what happened to his brother. Not a perfect theory, but it's interesting to consider. That's why I also mention Thanatos saying what he did, possibly Illuding that Athena was playing Krayos like a fiddle.
14:16 I think that a God becomes a "ghost" when they get killed by the Blade of Olympus. Both her and Zeus were killed by the Blade, but all the others were just smashed or slashed 😭
I mean Athena is the most god that Kratos directly talks to in the whole series, Gow1, Gow2, Gow3, Gow chains of Olympus and ghost of sparta except Ascension
he isn't "figuring it out" he might be only thinking like that. canon dev information is that she only planned after dying and getting corrupted from death.
Damn imagine if they followed through on this plot line I just hated it when it got ditched by the end of the story. Like imagine Athena manipulating both Atreus/Loki and Odin just to get back at Kratos for not giving her what she wanted, the power of Hope.
I played all the games as they released, and I definitely see where this theory is coming from and going, and her appearance in the 2 most recent games makes me lean towards agreement with this theory, but maybe, Kratos is just seeing her in visions as just twisted memories of her.
There's one bit of info i was hoping you'd add to this. At the end of chains of olympus helios and athena after stopping kratos fall asked if they should help him, Athena said "he'll live, they must"....idk what she meant by they
It really does makes sense here. Athena being the true antagonist among the trilogy and prequels of God Of War plotted this entire thing. Thus taking advantage of using Kratos to kill all of the Gods. Hence making her the new ruler of Olympus by asking Kratos to give the power of hope from him. But in the end he took his own life to end his suffering from the Gods, and give the power of hope to the people.
would like to add its possible that she knew of kratos all along...long before he was ever born. In God of War 2, you can clearly see in the original telling of how Zeus forged the blade of olympus cutscene that the titans were covered in a green energy as the blade "banishes" them. In the same game, at the end, Kratos goes back in time to this specific moment. Using his new control over time, it shows that all the titans were covered in the same green energy and sucked into the present. In that same scene, Gaia states that they have been waiting for him. Perhaps Athena was intelligent enough to realize the titans were not banished but would instead appear in the future due to Kratos' actions.
Well according to Cory Barlog some power or entity caused the corruption of Athena when she ascended. Odin in Ragnarok say that he see and heard in the Rift something. Probably there is some great evil behind this.
@@tc-channelhobby4051 You are probably right. And with this power or entity who caused the corruption of Athena and the thing that Odin see, i think there is some big evil behind this. The Next Saga probably will be abou this, clues like Fallen God, the mask and the rift show that Santa Monica has a plan about the Higher Existence.
Well, i wanna give two extra points in that theory: First it's easy to think that instead of being killed by Kratos so that she can access that "spectral form" , this would be her bold move of throwing out suspicion of her as no one would assume someone who sacrifices herself for the greatest god would want him dead. So instead of her diyng to access that "spectral form", she searched for the knowledge of this "'spectral form" so that she could be killed by Kratos and survive still. This would be even more important to her plan, as she would take an more active role in the next step. Also, she knew Kratos couldn't beat Zeus "spéctrall form" in the state he was, so she protecting him isn't hole at all Second, if all Athena said could be a lie, she could also lie about this being her power. it could be a power that would transcend her, and that's why she would believe it would be enough to beat Zeus. It kinda feels weird that she would put her power in the box so that she could get her power back in the future. It makes more sense that it would be a power trancendant to her. Maybe, Prometheus? I mean, the evils where born from the war against the Titanomachia. Prometheus kinda seens to had been part of it, and in he's origins he was a good titan who helped the humans to prevail and had a lot to do with the pandora's box. He could have been the one who had the power of hope and sealed it in the box. It could even be a parallel to the fire of the gods he gave to humanity P.s. Sorry for the gigantic comment. I hope you can go through it still kkkkkkk
i like reading and writing gigantic comments, provides depth :P. anways there is a major flaw with this theory, and that is the suspicious part itself. If athena planned everything from the start, she was so cunning and smart that she has been playing everyone as a pawn. she was doing it smartly and no one had a "suspicion" on her. she was being that "good" god that was caring for kratos and wanted to have peace between. why she changed her way of doing things in gow3? the way she "behaved" and directly told kratos to kill zeus isn't her "way of doing things" she could have just played the same game of cunningness and being avoiding suspicion from her by being that caring woman. right away when kratos meets her in gow3 she revealed her plans that she wants zeus to be dead? i mean kratos found it to be unusual didn't he? why do something that would increase someones' suspicion ? she could have been the same peacekeeper infront of kratos while indirectly making him againts the gods as she was doing all these years. and because of her being so transparent about the death of zeus and other gods kratos had suspicion on her and she did fail in her quest, if she would have been the same smart ass athena from gow1 and 2 she would have succeeded. personally i don't think its the same athena from gow1 and gow2, someone else was in her disguise in gow3, or lastly what cory said she got corrupted after her death, i see her planning from the start because there are so many contradictions that this video doesn't tell about from the games and the novels more importantly. which is actually good, let the community believe this theory its quite an interesting and "Biggest Brains of Athena's " theory which blows all of us' mind.
Something interesting. While Athena led Kratos down a path for her own selfish desire & caused him to distrust gods, Faye led him down a path for the sake of a better life & shown him that he can trust Gods. Feels like that has to be an intentional parallel.
Before death Athena and after death Athena are almost two completely different entities. One is compassionate and wise the other is cold selfish and cruel. If we are gonna compare Athena we must use the old Athena
Its an L opinion. Athena also tried to help him as best as she could and lead him to the right path until her death. after dying she changed and let him for her own selfishness.
Actually not really, everything Faye did seemed like a scheme too, since the only reason Kratos ended up facing norse gods was because she withheld information and used kratos his love for her so he will see the mural at the peak of jotunheim which motivated events in gow ragnarok
She is the goddess of... warfare (Specifically strategic) so it makes perfect sense she'd have a very drawn out scheme to get what she ultimately wants. Ares also had a pretty intrinsic plot to take over Olympus, but he's not as strategically gifted as she is and didn't have her mind's eye over the situation and potential gains; basically he just ain't even on her level in that regard. Meanwhile Athena didn't care about Olympus, she wanted it all gone so she could have her own rule over their pantheon (And beyond probably, wouldn't surprise me if she had plans to venture out and take over other lands too) and she wanted all those before her completely out of the picture. Her actor (I think there were two atleast? But her final one who also plays her in GOW 4 has the most perfect voice for her, when she lets down the mask and shows you who she really is, it's honestly quite terrifying. It just feels pure fucking evil.
It might be that she didn't expect Kratos to make it back from being killed by Zeus. Now that the blade is powered she could just as easily sneak into Olympus and steal the blade herself to kill Zeus but decided to back off as she saw Kratos making his way out of his situation.
On Zeus not being corrupted, he was actually corrupted, it was beaten out of him when Kratos slammed him on the ground. He is the worse father Kratos has, but he had some lights that had him be trying to be a good father to Kratos when he failed his other sons and daughters. Like Heracles.
Great content!!!. I was replaying GOW Ascencion recentely, and i though of a teory, that may be wrong, but definetly improved the experience for me, and basically it goes like this: Ascension is really a sequel of gow 3 in the timeline, is about Kratos in a state of allucination merging memories of his past and current events while recovering from his wounds, and i have 4 clues 1) Kratos is more “human” showing more regret from his previous ways 2) The easter egg that basicaly teased GOW 2018 3) The ending in wich the narrator saids that Kratos begins his “journey “ to redeem his past (something he clearly did not in the previous games) 4) The inconsistencies with the previous games in terms of story. I know it sounds crazy, but i really like to see the game from that prespective, and even make it a perfect bridge between the past games and the new ones; i would love for the community to dig deeper in this teory. Thanks and happy new year!!!
I really want Athena to be the Big Bad of the series. She could be behind the Mask and everything but I feel like that's too obvious so we won't get it :(
I always had a theory that Athena Saw it in him from the beginning because we're Aries saw the marked warrior is the one with the birthmark I think maybe she picked up on the fact that when Ares punched him and gave him a scar he became a marked warrior. and maybe when she picked up on that she realized that it was kratos and that she should spare him because eventually he would be the one to bring down Olympus.
Can't wait for Kratos to go back to Greece after gathering a posse of other gods and then they do a 'fuck Athena, all my homies hate Athena' sort of scene
i agree with theory 2, she was definitely sus in gow3 and furthermore her absence in gow2 was very sus however i believe this was confirmed in gow4 when kratos was getting his blades of chaos, he says to Athena : "im your monster no longer"
I think Prometheus helped Athena predict everything because Prometheus is the god of foresight who could predict everything and Zeus punished him by binding himto a rock and Athena took the opportunity
There is a Greek myth that Zeus will have a child that will over throw him so he ate the one of his lovers and then he got a headache and had his split open and Athena came out so this theory has good evidence based on Greek myths.
This is all in my head so it isn't worth much, but it always seemed to me that at least when God of War three originally ended (2018 is a sequel/reboot); Athena was meant to be the last divine power standing. She'd be the one to rebuild the destruction of Greece; but out of a god's want for power and aggrandizement not love of simple mortals. Kratos in killing himself released the hope within himself and gave it to the world, not Athena, who would have doled it out like a Mafia don does favors. It wasn't she didn't want people to have hope, she wanted the control of Hope. But I could be crazy, so.
8:50 to answer this question, we must remember that Kratos gained godhood and heard his mother's cries around this time. Remember, he DID NOT KNOW Deimos was alive _until his mother said so._ Just something to consider.
Athena being a mastermind for her own gains is in line with what she's supposed to be the Goddess of; Ares is the God of War, but its just rage and violence whereas Athena is the Goddess of strategic war and planning.
And her mistake was thinking Kratos would ever care about the remaining humans of greece and not be a full on ”monster” As Kratos decided to give the power of hope to mankind with the result of killing and sacrificing himself.
While it is an interesting theory that Athena was the true villain from the start, which could possibly happen, I honestly think that Athena was corrupted by the evils of Pandora's box being opened by Kratos.
it makes the most sense right now, if you are not consider the "possiblity of a someone else in athena's disguise in gow3". also beacuse reading the novels of gow1 and gow2 it seems as she genuinely cared for kratos and if you consider the possiblity of her planning everything from the start, things start falling apart and it doesn't make sense.
Tbh all I needed for this theory was GOW3 and those visions when you get the blades in the first Norse game. "Mankind is now ready to recieve ny message!" "Look around you, Athena. Who is left to hear it?" That right there is the mask-off moment for her narcisscism. It was all gaslighting and plausible deniability. "No father Zeus I totally am not researching how to maintain consciousness post mortem and riling up Kratos. Kratos is Ares' servant anyways, why would I ever use him?" "No Kratos you can't listen to grand ma Gaia. She doesn't mean you well like I do. Yes I totally let you die back there in Rhodes but that was for your benefit, Kratos." Hahahahaha!
There are some theories that say Athena is manipulating Odin, she being the one that made the rift of infinity knowledge, it has the same color scheme as her spirit, maybe she is still manipulating things, and making kratos kill multiple pantheons so she can rule everything.
It is a little too convenient that Athena reaches a higher state of being or whatever, then suddenly she's all in for the violent murder of her entire family.
Technically their would've been plenty of Olympian and primordial gods left after 3. We just never get to see them. Artemis, for example, is only seen in the first game but never again. And we didn't even fight her. Nemesis also never intervenes, likely seeing Kratos's anger of the gods as justified for them screwing him over his entire life. And so on.
i have a theory what if kratos wasnt a god or mortal or even a regular being my theory is that kratos is a living singularity which is why even the sisters of fate couldnt stop him why he can just will himself back to life like sonic from archie sonic he is a manafastation of chaos which unknoingly fate is bended to his will he is a wrench that cannot be acounted for
there is that one game called: "DeathSpank" which has some similarities with god of war lore And there is one female character who looks just like Athena, and that character was Manipulating the main protagonist She was also the main boss in second or third game, i don't really remember
Nahh she couldnt have. For her to die and ascend to a higher plane and be that green ghost thing she had to be selfless. If she planned all this she wouldnt have been selfless and ascended and wouldve died like every other god dies and doesnt come back making her plan fruitless. Corey explained this in an interview. He said:“now athena comes back from a selfless place and has more power than anybody and gets corrupted by it.“
And I feel like Kratos was a pawn to Faye. She may have truly loved him, but she knew his capabilities, and that he had the ability to change cuz she was changing him, and knew Atreus would truly change him to make sure Odin eventually died. It was all about the endgame for her too. I 💯 agree with your Athena theory, and I think her part in all this isn't over either.
I would argue in favor of this theory is that typically you don't have "a" plan but "plans". Like did she think child Kratos was the Marked One? Probably not but do prophecy EVER work out predictably? Why not plant a seed that could be used later? Maybe she was OK with Kratos dying in 2 if it happened, to get rid of any other "war" and increase her power, or him coming back as a weapon.
Athena could have planned this when Kratos was a kid. The scar on his face came from Aries hutting him, she probably saw the wound and knew it would leave scar making him a "marked" warrior.
If anyones heard theories about what lays beyond the void, what Odin discovered, and what Athena actually is when she 'returns from death', it could hold up her being the true antagonist not just in the mood games, but what comes later.
There is another theory about Athena. What could happen if she was the one who also manipulated Odin to encounter Kratos and his son Atreus? If she can manipulate Kratos's Fate, she is even scarier than Sisters of Fate. She can leave in higher plane of existence from ehich she can observe Kratos' move from any place between myths and inside each of them😮 Can Helheim be connected with sphere between life and death?Since Kratos gets illusions about Zeus and showed how he killed his father. Is that made something behind Athena aswell?
Some players say that the reason why Athena is able to exist beyond death is because she accessed a higher plain of existence, the same one that was connected to the rift Odin wanted to open
The Ship Captain was behind it all. You thought he was just a gag? A throwaway character to laugh at? Ship Captain is the most powerful being in every God of War. He will be the final boss Kratos and Atreus will have to fight.
There's a theory saying that the crack thing in Ragnarök was created by Athena in order to drive Odin insane, and make him fight Kratos or eventually kill him.
@@JayFreely there's a Norse goddess names gefjon that shares a ton of similarities with Athena, and considering athena did show up here she might've replaced her upon arrival and could possibly be the one that made Odin go nuts.
God Of War 1 Athena lied. Also after Kratos jumped off the cliff, Athena saves him, and the light on her Statue is creepy. 3 had Athena's obvious treachery. Ghost Of Sparta Athena said Kratos had to be saved. Maybe a retcon, or she is the true villain.
well according to novels she didn't lie to him, zeus told athena that forgiving kratos will erase his nightmares (or atleast what is implied, that was in zeus' hands). so she made the deal with kratos, but when she asked zeus to free kratos from his nightmares, he denied it. she argued with zeus that you can't take away this from him after the service of all of these years, your forgiveness is of no use, he needs a decent night's sleep. thats why he's been working for all these years you can't take away this from him, but zeus liked seeing kratos in misery.
Actually, there's a bit more in the mythology for this to be the basis. It was prophesied that Methis would bear a son after Athena that was craftier than Zeus and would usurp him. Athena is just trying what her would-be brother would've done
I could see a normal person with enough thought power coming up with "play both sides for "plausible deniability" or something up until the point with the Oracle, then it gets way too wacky to see things going anywhere. Great video though, really makes you see how smart people think if given the choice :)
Personally I am certain Athena really COULD have been the real brains behind Ares’s betrayal of Kratos and everything that came after. I’m also certain if that’s true, she covered her tracks so well there won’t ever be a way to prove it.
It could be so but remember also that she was working for Zeus And he didn't want Kratos to know. He only can blame Kratos for what was his biggest mistake. And Gods robbed Kratos from everything he had.
What if Zeus gave Athena the ghost form in between games as a gift considering they are the only too, also do to both being stabbed with the blade of Olympus that it killed their bodies but not their souls
Good theory but too many reaches, icarus that was there at the right moment, kratos being capable to reach the sisters without any help, have faith in kratos to find a way to come back from hell without any help, athena is smart but how did she knew that after she dies she will reincarnate? Not even zeus knew that (I think). This theory is pretty much: "let's hope kratos gets killed by the sword as a mortal, come back from the death as a mortal, reaching the sisters without any help whatsoever and come back in time, and? Killing zeus? Hoping that zeus won't kill pandora for some reason? And hoping that kratos kill all the gods alone? (he kinda did altough with some titan help and some weird luck). Or did she predicted that kratos would be betrayed by the titans?"
It did make me think about 3 again if they were ever gonna do a part four to finally finish Athena. But Athena appears to just keep an eye on him. Make sure trouble always find him , could have orchestrated fight between him and Faye to pry the power from him. What if Kratos gave the power of hope to Atreus to throw Athena off? Just another thought What if Angrboda is Athena in disguise? (I personally can't see it but just entertaining the thought considering her overall good nature but..... could be) Sorry my head is starting to hurt lol.
Maybe she is stuck to Kratos in some way? Forced to observe his every action but unable to directly interact with the outside world. Always waiting for the right moment to take over Kratos’es body. It never was the plan to do this but a contingency in case her plan in GoW3 failed. She could become a replacement for Mimir in a future game like that. Someone for Kratos to bounce off of, when he would otherwise be alone.
Kratos has hope.He feels he can make Atreus better. Atreus is just son who cares about his father and paying respects. I don't think Angryboda was like Athena. But what about Faye? She already died before GoW2018 even started.Kratos always see her in dreams and he feels to oppose his nature and be better father. Faye works to change Kratos' mind to oppose Athena.
Athena and Ares were working for Zeus commands to neutralize Kratos's family, Deimos, and mother Callisto who was cursed. Ares didn't regret Kratos killed his own family (wife and child). He mislead Kratos to cause destruction of his life in exchange of keeping him alive. Ares at the end of the game turns against Zeus to think he has Pandora's box But Kratos uses it's power against Ares and kills him. Athena in GoW1 wasn't thinking about the consequences of opening the box. After GoW3 she realised that Kratos set power of fear free and infected Zeus and other gods. Athena put her power into the box but Zeus locked the box with Flame of Olympus. After defeat of Zeus, Kratos didn't gave power back and stabbed himself with Blade of Olympus

“Athena may be the true antagonist.”
Anyone familiar with real Greek mythology: “Makes sense.”

@@marxist-leninist-protagonist why would you care about morals if you're an immortal god tho?
Athena is literally called the Goddess of Wisdom, she DEFINITELY sees herself as the smartest.
@@thehermit8723 She encouraged Kratos to destroy Olympus in GOW3, as well as telling him to sacrifice Pandora to open the box
When she is alive, she is good, a good god, you dont believe me?, she saved him as a child and many things else, but when she died and got revived with a new form.
she became corrupted, that's why she is evil
in GOW 3 and she encouraged kratos to kill gods instead of protecting them like in GOW 2, make kratos her monster, all she ever wanted in gow 3 was POH, the ultimate godly power, so she can be the new ruler of mankind and be the ultimate god, luckily, kratos is not easily to manipulate and he did the right thing by sending the power back to mortals
I think the biggest piece of possible evidence is the ending
After Kratos does that
Athena seems upset that it was given to the mortals
And as she grabbed the sword her innocent goody two shoes demeanor went from hero to villain as she grabbed the sword and said "you disappoint me spartan" before harshly yanking the sword out of him throwing the now useless weapon down like a toy she got bored with and left Kratos to bleed out
yeah but a lot of other information present in game aswell as novels, doesn't align with the theory of the video. kinda bored now after replying to so many comments 😅 so don't wanna explain what i said, can check my comments from profile..
@@HitmanHimselfThen why the hell did you reply here bozo? 💀
Few notes
Again, insuating she was lying before, likely knowing Kratos would do the opposite.
can't seem to understand what you said, can you explain more?
Zeus was beat to death
In mythology Athena was involved in a coup to take dethrone Zeus, so this theory doesn't sound that far fetched and could be true
@Tigran-Abazyan yes, very possible aswell
I feel like in Gow 4 Kratos eventually figures out that Athena was the Mastermind and thats why he is so Aggressive towards her in that Game
I mean Athena is the most god that Kratos directly talks to in the whole series, Gow1, Gow2, Gow3, Gow chains of Olympus and ghost of sparta except Ascension
he isn't "figuring it out"
he might be only thinking like that.
canon dev information is that she only planned after dying and getting corrupted from death.
Odin: “this tear may hold unlimited wisdom”

“Good strategic planning is indistinguishable from seeing the future” Is such a powerful quote.
I played all the games as they released, and I definitely see where this theory is coming from and going, and her appearance in the 2 most recent games makes me lean towards agreement with this theory, but maybe, Kratos is just seeing her in visions as just twisted memories of her.

But in the end he took his own life to end his suffering from the Gods, and give the power of hope to the people.
it does make sense? I guess, good theory.
but it isn't canon. its been long time discarded by devs.
would like to add its possible that she knew of kratos all along...long before he was ever born.
Ik this is a reupload but with some of the stuff in GoWR like the Rift & many thinking it's related to Athena, this theory is still valid.
I always found it suspicious that the god who is displayed at the door of the elevator in the Temple of Pandora is non other than Athena.
why?
I have a theory: What if it was Athena behind the great knowledge that Odin was so desperately seeking?
Well according to Cory Barlog some power or entity caused the corruption of Athena when she ascended. Odin in Ragnarok say that he see and heard in the Rift something. Probably there is some great evil behind this.
@@vincenzoaquino8299 the evils in the pandora's box are very potent indeed or something else I guess.
@@tc-channelhobby4051 It's seems to be connected with the Higher Existence.
@@vincenzoaquino8299 hmmm, you may be correct as the actual universe cory is talking about has yet to be explored
Also, she knew Kratos couldn't beat Zeus "spéctrall form" in the state he was, so she protecting him isn't hole at all
Second, if all Athena said could be a lie, she could also lie about this being her power. it could be a power that would transcend her, and that's why she would believe it would be enough to beat Zeus.
It could even be a parallel to the fire of the gods he gave to humanity
@@HitmanHimself Yeah, you changed my view totally about it
Something interesting. While Athena led Kratos down a path for her own selfish desire & caused him to distrust gods, Faye led him down a path for the sake of a better life & shown him that he can trust Gods.
Feels like that has to be an intentional parallel.
Especially as Athena is directly paralleled to Faye in the Norse Saga
I think she just knew that the gods will be destroyed and she's just planning ahead of its aftermath.
Yes, finally someone else who sees the parallels between Crash Bandicoot and Kratos.
I just finished God of War 3 today. Thanks for having these videos for me to enjoy after experiencing these games raw and blind.

Helios *DID* say something, in the Valhalla DLC, that hints that Athena was the true mastermind behind most everything.
what was helios said?
For an ass atleast he did be honest
@@pandagodlike226 Helios said "you would claim ignorance on the consequences for trusting Athena? Is that your idea of a joke, Kratos?"
It just feels pure fucking evil.
she had no mask lol
It might be that she didn't expect Kratos to make it back from being killed by Zeus. Now that the blade is powered she could just as easily sneak into Olympus and steal the blade herself to kill Zeus but decided to back off as she saw Kratos making his way out of his situation.
I was really hoping for a new video
Well damn :/
I'm sure the waits worth it
11:53 “turned on by the gods” this got me
I think she was infected with greed one of the evils in the box, she probably was jealous of Zeus's reign on Olyumpus
On Zeus not being corrupted, he was actually corrupted, it was beaten out of him when Kratos slammed him on the ground. He is the worse father Kratos has, but he had some lights that had him be trying to be a good father to Kratos when he failed his other sons and daughters. Like Heracles.
"Is Kratos Crash Bandicoot?"
Duh, it's in the games.
Athena could have solid grounds to know the titans would return to fight as the prophecy of gigantomachia was a thing
I really want Athena to be the Big Bad of the series. She could be behind the Mask and everything but I feel like that's too obvious so we won't get it :(
That's what people were speculating that she was behind odins obsession since she shares the same mystical energy as the rift
Can't wait for Kratos to go back to Greece after gathering a posse of other gods and then they do a 'fuck Athena, all my homies hate Athena' sort of scene
i agree with theory 2, she was definitely sus in gow3 and furthermore her absence in gow2 was very sus
however i believe this was confirmed in gow4 when kratos was getting his blades of chaos, he says to Athena :
"im your monster no longer"
I think Prometheus helped Athena predict everything because Prometheus is the god of foresight who could predict everything and Zeus punished him by binding himto a rock and Athena took the opportunity
There is a Greek myth that Zeus will have a child that will over throw him so he ate the one of his lovers and then he got a headache and had his split open and Athena came out so this theory has good evidence based on Greek myths.
Irl Grrek Mythology aside, even as a kid it was weird she didn't want mankind to have Hope
Remember, he DID NOT KNOW Deimos was alive _until his mother said so._
Just something to consider.
Athena being a mastermind for her own gains is in line with what she's supposed to be the Goddess of; Ares is the God of War, but its just rage and violence whereas Athena is the Goddess of strategic war and planning.
And her mistake was thinking Kratos would ever care about the remaining humans of greece and not be a full on ”monster”
As Kratos decided to give the power of hope to mankind with the result of killing and sacrificing himself.
If you listen to the audiobooks Athena knew what she was doing the entire time in using Kratos to get what she wanted
huh?
@@HitmanHimself what part confused you
While it is an interesting theory that Athena was the true villain from the start, which could possibly happen, I honestly think that Athena was corrupted by the evils of Pandora's box being opened by Kratos.
And other this, Cory Barlog has confirmed that some power or entity corrupted Athena when she ascended in the Higher Existence.
it makes the most sense right now, if you are not consider the "possiblity of a someone else in athena's disguise in gow3".
also beacuse reading the novels of gow1 and gow2 it seems as she genuinely cared for kratos and if you consider the possiblity of her planning everything from the start, things start falling apart and it doesn't make sense.
Tbh all I needed for this theory was GOW3 and those visions when you get the blades in the first Norse game.
"Mankind is now ready to recieve ny message!"
"Look around you, Athena. Who is left to hear it?"
That right there is the mask-off moment for her narcisscism. It was all gaslighting and plausible deniability. "No father Zeus I totally am not researching how to maintain consciousness post mortem and riling up Kratos. Kratos is Ares' servant anyways, why would I ever use him?"
"No Kratos you can't listen to grand ma Gaia. She doesn't mean you well like I do. Yes I totally let you die back there in Rhodes but that was for your benefit, Kratos."
Hahahahaha!
There are some theories that say Athena is manipulating Odin, she being the one that made the rift of infinity knowledge, it has the same color scheme as her spirit, maybe she is still manipulating things, and making kratos kill multiple pantheons so she can rule everything.
She is marking Kratos' fate better than sisters did xd
It is a little too convenient that Athena reaches a higher state of being or whatever, then suddenly she's all in for the violent murder of her entire family.
This headcanon will elevate my next playthrough
Technically their would've been plenty of Olympian and primordial gods left after 3. We just never get to see them. Artemis, for example, is only seen in the first game but never again. And we didn't even fight her.
Nemesis also never intervenes, likely seeing Kratos's anger of the gods as justified for them screwing him over his entire life. And so on.
i have a theory what if kratos wasnt a god or mortal or even a regular being my theory is that kratos is a living singularity which is why even the sisters of fate couldnt stop him why he can just will himself back to life like sonic from archie sonic he is a manafastation of chaos which unknoingly fate is bended to his will he is a wrench that cannot be acounted for
there is that one game called: "DeathSpank" which has some similarities with god of war lore
And there is one female character who looks just like Athena, and that character was Manipulating the main protagonist
She was also the main boss in second or third game, i don't really remember
Nahh she couldnt have. For her to die and ascend to a higher plane and be that green ghost thing she had to be selfless. If she planned all this she wouldnt have been selfless and ascended and wouldve died like every other god dies and doesnt come back making her plan fruitless. Corey explained this in an interview. He said:“now athena comes back from a selfless place and has more power than anybody and gets corrupted by it.“
Liking for posterity
Athena being the real villain is a interesting thought 🤔
I thought this become very apparent to fans tho after the way she acted at the final scenes of GOW3 and the scene she has in GOW2018
Athena saw Inception
OG video: * Is taken down*
TBP: *"ZOOOOOOOOS! IS THIS HOW YOU FACE ME!? COWARD!"*
I would argue in favor of this theory is that typically you don't have "a" plan but "plans". Like did she think child Kratos was the Marked One? Probably not but do prophecy EVER work out predictably? Why not plant a seed that could be used later?
Maybe she was OK with Kratos dying in 2 if it happened, to get rid of any other "war" and increase her power, or him coming back as a weapon.
imagine if she returned in a future game, restarts the Greek pantheon as the Roman and puts herself atop it becoming the next big bad
Athena could have planned this when Kratos was a kid. The scar on his face came from Aries hutting him, she probably saw the wound and knew it would leave scar making him a "marked" warrior.
I think the mark of the marked warrior could possibly be the giant scar Kratos got from Ares punching him in the face when he tried to save Deimos
If anyones heard theories about what lays beyond the void, what Odin discovered, and what Athena actually is when she 'returns from death', it could hold up her being the true antagonist not just in the mood games, but what comes later.
They actually speak of Athena as a manipulator and in other negative lights in the Making of the game; Voice acting from the GoW3 remaster.
There is another theory about Athena. What could happen if she was the one who also manipulated Odin to encounter Kratos and his son Atreus?
If she can manipulate Kratos's Fate, she is even scarier than Sisters of Fate. She can leave in higher plane of existence from ehich she can observe Kratos' move from any place between myths and inside each of them😮
Can Helheim be connected with sphere between life and death?Since Kratos gets illusions about Zeus and showed how he killed his father. Is that made something behind Athena aswell?
Updated pfp I love it!!!!
pretty sure it all started after she ascended since she probably couldnt have ascended if she was plotting evil things before hand
A video so nice I watched it twice
Still an outstanding analysis of your topic. I think Athena was a conniving, manipulative piece of work (even by Grecian god standards).
Alternate title: Athena. What was she cooking?!
Honestly, this is such an interesting concept. It's cool to think that Athena might have been the actual villain all along😂.
Athena be like: Kratos gets his ass slapped in the back of his neck and let’s it slide and kicks Atreus in his mouth

Some players say that the reason why Athena is able to exist beyond death is because she accessed a higher plain of existence, the same one that was connected to the rift Odin wanted to open

And there's a chance she's also responsible for all the shit going on in the norse lands as well.
How
@@JayFreely there's a Norse goddess names gefjon that shares a ton of similarities with Athena, and considering athena did show up here she might've replaced her upon arrival and could possibly be the one that made Odin go nuts.
Great video and I've always thought this 100%
God Of War 1 Athena lied.
@@HitmanHimself I remember that now in the novel. Good point. Maybe she did know what Kratos was, and also wanted to pay her end.
Actually, there's a bit more in the mythology for this to be the basis. It was prophesied that Methis would bear a son after Athena that was craftier than Zeus and would usurp him. Athena is just trying what her would-be brother would've done
Too bad she had no role in Ragnarok
Could be that she gave Odin the mask
If she was about to let Odin to keep the mask what is the point to let Atreus wear it?
I could see a normal person with enough thought power coming up with "play both sides for "plausible deniability" or something
up until the point with the Oracle, then it gets way too wacky to see things going anywhere.
It could be so but remember also that she was working for Zeus
And he didn't want Kratos to know.
I agree with this.
Athena's signature animal should've been a snake because that's what she was a 🐍...
what was she trying to do to kratos in the final cutscene of the ghost of sparta
Kratos in gow Ragnarok Valhalla talking to Helios
Opening the box was Athena's plan
Helios
When did her plans actually end up good
It did make me think about 3 again if they were ever gonna do a part four to finally finish Athena. But Athena appears to just keep an eye on him. Make sure trouble always find him , could have orchestrated fight between him and Faye to pry the power from him.
What if Kratos gave the power of hope to Atreus to throw Athena off? Just another thought What if Angrboda is Athena in disguise? (I personally can't see it but just entertaining the thought considering her overall good nature but..... could be)
Sorry my head is starting to hurt lol.
The one that took the power from Kratos to give it to the statue was Athena or Zeus?
if this was the case it shows just how smart she is, she's so smart she even fooled us all this time.
Can you make “what if Ares had blamed the deaths of Lyssandra and Calliope on Athena”?
Athena and Ares were working for Zeus commands to neutralize Kratos's family, Deimos, and mother Callisto who was cursed.
Ares didn't regret Kratos killed his own family (wife and child). He mislead Kratos to cause destruction of his life in exchange of keeping him alive.
Ares at the end of the game turns against Zeus to think he has Pandora's box
But Kratos uses it's power against Ares and kills him.
Maybe she did that so she could take zeus throne.maybe she knew thst after krstjd kulled her she woule become more powerful
