Thing you have to remember about Children of Bodom is that Alexi composes and writes all the songs. Which means that he pretty much chooses who plays all the solos- usually himself. Alexander may not have played that many solos during his time in COB, but he still pulled his own weight and is an excellent guitarist (currently teaching in a finnish music academy, if I remember correctly). Then what about Roope? Well, he has proven his talent already in the late '80s. Band called Stone, anyone?

i prefer roope somehow, just listen to the sinergy stuff. he can go crazy and rock the shit out of you if he wants, but he usually likes to keep it a little more discreet.

i think you have that backwards. Roope is far more technical. If you watch some of their off stage footage. He talks about how sloppy alexi is and how it kills him and they get into mini fights over it. and Roope is basically the one who taught Alexi his style. Listen to Singergy. Roope writes 90% of the solos and they are more technical then most bodom solos.
@mutinouschunterings I agree, Roope is as good as Alexi on guitar, and he has to do more lead sessions in CoB. But in Tokyo Warhearts, this isn't Roope the second guitar player, this is the old one, Alexander Kuoppala... He was great too, but Roope is, by far, better in my opinion.
They are almost even.. Roope has a bit more classical heavy metal style of making his solo, while Alexi has a more Wild/rampant style and is better at shredding. I like em both as guitarist though, and it's really hard to decides who's best (Roopes much older too)

Lol... if he's had ideas for riffs, shown them to Alexi who might have altered them a bit and put them into the songs, Alexi gets the creadit but that doesn't mean alexander did nothing, Alexi is and has always been the songwriter of the band, and a great guitarist, but that doesn't mean that he's done everything and it doesn't make Alexander a bad guitarist. And here the hell does Megadeth come to this, tell me that and also think about how pigs might fly and cows spit fire.

Check out what he did with Amon Amarth in "Twilight of the thunder God" and check out what he's doing here.. It's not always about mindless speed.. This is not as energetic as Alexi's song .. so what, it's more complex and way more awesome ... besides there's no need to compare .. Roope has proved himself to be truly awesome so far. i think that Laiho and Latvala are both very talented guitarists, its too hard to say who is 'better'. laiho is a much more talented composer than latvala however.
