- How to redirect a domain using Cloudflare with no SSL issues.
In this video I walk you through the steps needed to make sure that any parked domain or secondary domain can be used as a forwarder to your website. So for example if you’re looking to redirect 'my-domain.com' to 'my-domain.co.uk', this video will guide you through the process.
Setting up a parked domain or a forwarder can be pretty straight forward in your hosting account but when you start using Cloudflare there is a common issue with the SSL certificate, meaning you'll need your secondary domain to also go through Cloudflare.
Steps you'll need to follow to resolve this issue:
1. You need to make sure that you have both domains running through Cloudflare.
A. In order to add your domain to Cloudflare you need to ‘Add a new site’
B. Enter the domain name in
C. After adding the domain, you’ll need to configure the DNS for the forwarding domain.
D. It’s important that you primary domain is configured to use your server IP address,
E. However your forwarding or parked domain must have these DNS records for this to work
1. @ : 192.1.2.3
2. www : 192.1.2.3
F. Update your domain nameservers to match the nameservers that Cloudflare provide you.
G. Wait for domain propagation
H. Test by entering your domain in www.whatsmydns.com
I. If you see the IP’s listed above then you can move on to step 2
2. Once domain has successfully been added to Cloudflare we need to set up the page rules.
3. In Cloudflare, go to Rules : Page Rules : Create Page Rule
4. Enter your new domain in this format: your-domain.com/ - this will server as a wildcard to pick up all pages on your website whether the user enters https or http / www or non www.
5. Select ‘Forwarding URL’ from the settings
6. Select 301 as the status code for the permanent redirect
7. Then enter your destination url to match whatever you have set up on your live site: e.g.
www.your-main-domain.com/$2 - the /$2 will ensure that all pages will be redirect to the relevant pages. URL matching.
So if someone tried to access 'your-domain.com/contact-us' they will automatically get redirected to www.your-main-domain.com/cont... - Awesome!
8. That’s it - test away and be patient while you wait for DNS to propagate.

Thank you so much. I hope this video helped you.
Thanks for the vid Dan, the wildcard rule part was what I was missing. Also what's the longest you've had to wait for these changes to propagate? Thanks.
Thanks for the comment. Yea the wildcard is the part most people miss out on and can be super useful. I've seen propagation taking a few days but it all depends what TTL your domain registrar has set. If you can control this, you can set it to 300 and it will happen pretty quick but generally it works within an hour or so. Just need to be patient.
