@@YesImJoeKingIt would just be looked at as Fam Guy copying the Simpsons, the joke parody is more original here on the Simpsons. I mean the Simpsons' version is not original in the sense of it being completely brand new since it's referencing something else, but it's still more original when someone is copying a show verses someone copying a copy of a show.
The real question is: does it really took them 13 years to think of it or they just gave priority to other and (more important for them) gags before Popeye?
Unironically one of homers most badass moments. Goes to show how Popeyes influence really does bring out the best in everyone even doofuses like Homer Simpson
technically it's one of the earlier seasons now, 13 out of 33, but it is from that post golden era and into the silver era where you had some gems mixed in with a few more duds.
seasons 10-15 were the "decline" period of the simpsons, where instead of a memorable, high-quality episode every single time without fail, the show was mostly average with a few gems here and there. A lot of people blame the writers, but you can only keep a show going for so long before you've got to start breaking established canon/reusing plots/making characters do things they would never do so that you can keep going. It's _really impressive_ that they managed to make about 10 seasons without a single bad episode, and originally the show was projected to have not lasted past about the 2nd or 3rd season. so while the show sucks now, it's more because of how long it's been aired rather than JUST the writers sucking at their jobs (which they do, but you get the point.)
it's even outlived it's own time period: >the characters still watch a box TV with rabbit ears like it's the 80s, when they're a defunct technology today; most people watch tv off their mobiles or a laptop. >Maggie riding in the front seat with marge wasn't a big deal then, but would get you jailed today. >Apu, once lauded as inclusive of the indian community, is now criticized as a "stereotype" even after the show's explicitly fleshed his character out past hinduism and working at a gas station. >Bart and Lisa going trick-or-treating by themselves after dark >A Family of 5 living in a 2 story house, with 2 cars, off of a single income. Unless you're in the "pretty freakin wealthy or well off" bracket, this is no longer a reality or even a possibility for 90% of middle class families.
No joke when I first saw the part when Homer gave the Donkey duff beer and immediately sleeps I laughed my 'no pun intended' jackass off of that, And it still does.
