It's a great movie. It just came out at the wrong time and was WAY over budget. A lot of behind the scenes problems didn't help, including Williams' coke problem.

Old School Radical Gamer Dude Actually it did pretty well at the box office. 60 million on a 20 million dollar budget plus probably way more than that in later home movie sales, but the original budget probably was 10 million or so.

sure thing millennial ...ACTUALLY it’s huge bomb lol....20 million in 1980 was a ton of money for a movie and barely 60 million worldwide ...when u factor in advertising and merchandising...and you know that the legendary Robert Altman was basically blacklisted for almost 15 years because of it ....also...it barely Would have made a dent in the home video market ....video stores weren’t even a real thing for about another 5 years later ...peeps had moved on...
Ps- love this movie ..first one I saw in the theatre 👍

Not just Williams but the entire production!! Apparently it was a crazy free for all and the behest of Altman !!! On Disney’s dime !!
I feel like an entertaining and exposing doc would be appropriate soon👍👍

The man was so spontaneously witty. I read that in his earlier stand-ups he would just get up on stage and start shooting from the hip. No topic cards, nothing. Simply amazing.

I recalled having watched some original old Popeye in my late teens and coming to the same awareness of how they were slipping some real raunchy stuff in via Popeye's muttering double entendre. It was a humorous eye opener at how they were giving adults something at which to laugh without the kiddies knowing anything about it.

Maybe it's just me but when he makes the comment that getting to know the real him is like opening pandora's box and then exclaiming "no pandora, dont open the box!" Sent chills down my spine, because I realized from that comment that even then, in the prime of his life, Robin was depressed.... sad how true the old statement is, "hindsight is 20/20."

I don't think it's just you. Human behavior intrigues a lot of us and that really is chilling. Even more so are the millions of people who blindly listen to their doctors, not realizing that they're pouring chemical soup on their brains without fully understanding them. Many if not all of those antidepressants increase the risk of suicide and other violent acts. That's scary.
