I stocked an aquarium with fish and salamanders and such that I caught using a large net in a local pond. It was outside and froze. I think only the salamander remain in it at the time. I took the block of ice and put it under heat so it would thaw and was surprised that the salamander wasn't dead and had apparently gone into hibernation. I don't know about Vietnam, but where I lived is considered a temperate rain forest. In some places, there's moss all over the place, such as the Hoh rain forest. I lived out in the woods in such a place for an entire summer, back in '83 or '84. They've since built houses all around it but not that area because of the swamps. I asked a Vietnam veteran if the area was like Vietnam. I can't remember what he said, but I can get a good comparison by watching your videos. Some people grow bamboo there, but it doesn't grow in the wild, although it did when I lived in San Diego. It's interesting what plants grow in the wild in different places and how people figure out how to make use of them. You use bamboo while in the Pacific Northwest, they use logs from trees and build cabins. Of course, I'm referring to the natives. Everything's changed with modern civilization. The knowledge and skills you have are impressive.

I used to spar regularly with a guy from South Korea who had a second degree black belt in Taekwondo. I studied various systems, eventually settling on Jeet Kune Do, so I sparred with others of various styles. My most challenging opponent was a guy who studied Thai boxing. I was most drawn to the spiritual and philosophical aspects, such as meditation, and described Tai chi as "moving meditation." One of my greatest role models has always been Kwai Chang Caine in the Kung Fu series, ever since I was a child. I essentially fuse Eastern and Western philosophy, like the right and left sides of the brain, as it all points to the same place. "The name 'tai chi' translates to 'supreme ultimate' and describes the vastness of the universe." You know, "make me one with everything" and all that.😉
