    For those attempting to remove tthe axle nut . the regular 35mm socket ( borrowed from the parts store) won't work. it doesn't fit into the hole where the axle nut is situated. YOU WILL NEED A "THIN - WALLED" 35MM SOCKET / 36mm didn't work!!!!!

      I had to use a 36mm axle nut socket to take it off, but the hub I bought on rock auto took a 35mm axle socket

    I only had one question just how long and count the time you went to the store and bought the part. Either on line or brick and block. To me it would take around 6 may 7 hours chasing parts and tools and doing the work but if it was a mechanic maybe 3 or 4 with the test drive.

    Greetings from Turkey! I also have Chevy Sonic, but 1.3L diesel. I need to replace my passenger side axle. I already had 34 and 36 mm sockets, but they didn't fit. I found and bought 35 mm after this video, however 35 mm is also doesn't fit. :D I'm in trouble with my axle nut. When I measure the axle nut I found out that it's 35.75 mm, but my 35mm socket is 35.55mm. Do I need to hammer it like you mate? I just tried a little and saw that socket tortures the axle nut. Please help me!

      @@BrianBalatbat yo bro I see that you didn't take the 3 prong washer off the old one and the new one didn't have one on it. I just noticed this after finishing mine and I think I did the same thing. I hope its not critical. Did the customer complain of any noise or did the wheel bearing fail afterwards?

    35mm? Thought it was 36mm for the chevy sonic. Mine is a 2015 and when i looked it up i found 36mm on reddit. I have yet to do the work however. I’ll find out.

    • @Dassick89
      @Dassick89 2 роки тому +1

      Edited this as it's a 36 MM
      2015 sonic is 35MM, I confirmed with my own axles today.
      And it's funny how that happened but I just double checked the socket I used and it IS a 36 mm for a 2015 Chevy Sonic 1.4l!

    • @drarkan
      @drarkan 2 роки тому

      Yeah i did mine a while ago and forgot to post. My neighbor had the socket and i think it was 35mm. That being said im so pleased with easy DIY repairs and saving thousands. Spent CAD$ 212.11 total on the parts and about 1.5 hours.
      Edited from 80-90 total but as i looked up my invoice it was 80$ per axle lol wasn’t far off but still a huge savings!

    There is a tool that is supposed to be inserted between the axle shaft and the seal inside the trans. This prevents damage of the seal upon removal. I don’t think yanking the axle assembly out is a good idea

    • @Dassick89
      @Dassick89 2 роки тому +1

      There is a tool yes, but even the manual says to use a long screwdriver and pry away from the seal... Also those bolts/nut for the strut he removed are TTY and need to be replaced, as well as missing the washer on the end of the driveshaft that the manual specifically states to replace with new. Manual says "remove lower ball joint and use new bolt/nut, remove tie rod end, remove stabilizer link, use brass punch to lock brake rotor against caliper bracket. Remove CV nut, pry axle from trans using long screw driver, remove washer from CV axle, and replace with new (part is 11611963 for 2015). I see he left the washer on the old axle in the vid. I cant really see how it would destroy anything not using the washer and its a dealer only part.
