  • Mathias Martins - Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory · Virology/ DVM, MS, PhD- Mathias Martins holds a DVM, MS, and Ph.D. in Virology from the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria/RS, including a sandwich program at South Dakota State University. During his studies, he focused on the construction and characterization of parapoxvirus ovis (ORFV) recombinants for use as a vaccine platform for antigen delivery. Between 2018 and 2019, he served as a professor at Universidade do Oeste de Santa Catarina, teaching in the Veterinary School and Graduate Program. In early 2020, he transitioned to a Postdoctoral Fellow position at Cornell University, where his work concentrated on the development of viral platforms for antigen delivery. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, his primary research involved the development of animal models for studying SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis. Currently, he is the Chief of the Virology Section at the Texas A&M University Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory in College Station, Texas.
