Lock/Unlock was made as part of j-hope's Original SoundTrack (OST) for his docu-series "Hope On The Street" where he travels the world and dances street dance styles with some of the best dancers in the world. Each song was written for a specific type of dance and the lyrics are thematically explored in each episode. So Lock/Unlock, for example, was written specifically to dance locking to in Seoul (with a locking expert) and the episode explores the way he, as a celebrity, feels the need to lock and unlock his feelings, his vulnerability depending on his environment. There's another song on the album written specifically for house dance in Paris, another written for popping in Osaka, another for hip hop in New York...it's just such a cool concept and something that he can do uniquely as a rapper, producer, and street dancer. How cool is that? To grow up dancing to music and one day be able to create your very own music specifically for you to dance to. Awesome.
The song 'On The Street (Feat. J-Cole)' is not on J-Hope's new album. He did a solo version of the song, and that is the one on his new album. the one you watched with J-Cole is a song he released before military enlistment for ARMY's. J-Hope travelled to New York and filmed this music video in the alley that J-Cole had a music video for his song SIMBA. I'm pretty sure that's accurate. It wasn't were J-Hope grew up. And this song sounds nothing like Chicken Noodle Soup. FYI - BTS have more than just Hype songs, they have ballads, RnB, and other softer songs as well as the hard hitting rap, and upbeat.
This was filmed in NY and starts on the same street as one of J Cole's videos. He loved to dance to J Cole's music when he was younger so when he agreed to feature, he gave him 2/3rds of the track and just danced to it. :) There is a version without JCole (the original) that is on Jhope's latest album "Hope on the Street vol. 1", the same album that "Lock/Unlock" is off of.
The Song on the Street was written for his fans, and family and members as a goodbye it came out before he enlisted in the Military, he produced the whole EP in the same year he had his Solo Debut and Schedules, in 2022 with his Debut Album Jack in the Box, recommend to check out the Songs More and Arson, since those r his official Debuts.
