  • In this bench report, I go through the stuff that I have painted and which arrived in the post over the last week, including a game of Fire in the Sky which I played at the club.
    Also, I talk about some channel changes that I am looking to make over the coming weeks and months. Let me know in the comments what you think about my ideas.

    Your fields look great, and so do the MG nests. Good job. Nothing wrong with reducing output for better quality, especially if it makes you happy as that’s the better long term result :)

    I would prefer longer and themed months perhaps

    Personally I'm not into the theme concept - Id prefer the magazine concept but not sold on it either. I like a little bit of a mix from you. The weekly desk report, a history drop, tutes, a game review, a game play cover. I think if you sequenced those "formats" over a month (effectively one a week with the occasional bonus).

    I'd go with Peter Pig if only because his range has both breadth and depth.

    Great update Alex. When i did my US Forces for Vietnam i picked up some the Peter Pig figures to add to them. Marks Game Room had another FITS video yesterday. I would like to see report on your BOB game!

    I do like the concept of a longer form 'magazine' (with time stamps for the impatient or time-poor .). My suggestion would be to theme the main portion of the video as you suggested, but to also have a section (maybe about a third of the whole of more general hobby interest...you could use this for nuggets that don't generally fit in to your usual content modes, (maybe a nosey at some games you have seen that fall outside your own ballpark), perhaps a small feature similar to a 'postbox' where topics raised by viewers can be aired? This section could also flag up related content that either you, or someone else, has posted.
    My final suggestion is very straightforward ... We need more appearances from the star of the channel ... Tiny!

    As for content, being entertaining is more difficult than it looks, and content versus entertainment is also a thing. It depends on what you see as your end goal? Only you can answer that, but I would caution that putting views as the primary goal will have the problem of chasing a metric, and making that the goal will raise the noise to signal ratio (entertainment versus quality of content). Just my opinion, YMMV.

    Charlie Dont Surf! I'm looking into that project myself, but in 6mm. Hope you enjoy it and I hope you make more videos about it.

    I bought some 3dBreed Foreign Legionnairs and don't much like them, very chunky with large heads and very thin barrels for weapons.

    My preference would be for relatively short videos dealing with a specific subject rather than the magazine type. By doing specific subjects your viewers will know what they are looking for and can possibly save for future reference.
    This will allow you to cover a wide variety of subjects which can be easily found by your audience and at the same time allow you flexibility in what you show, be it unboxing, reviews, tutorials etc.
    Personally I like the quality of your productions rather than their frequency or duration.
    Hope this helps.

    I don’t know what the metrics say but I really enjoy your content and my thoughts: 1) Tutorials. Old salts like to see how others do it too and newer Grognards can really get some tips that help. You do a great job with those. 2) Battle Reports because…boom!
    Maybe a Paint and Chat? More Tiny is also more better. 😎. Whatever you decide will be good stuff. Glad to be along.

    12:30 When I switched this video on my wife, who recognised your voice, said " how many videos a week does he do? " so maybe you're correct! However I would miss your battle videos. But if you're not happy with the quality of what you put out, do what you feel you need to do.

      Lol, there it is right there. Battle reports would stay, but I'd make them better than I do now, don't worry about that!

      I love the battle reports, which inspired me to play O group and COC. Also your rules explanations were excellent imho. General hobby updates are good as well so perhaps the magazine format is the way to go?

    Another observation: maybe it's in the nature of hobby channels that subscribers don't tune in to every video. Contrast that with Little Wars TV, whose subscribers probably watch all the battle reports, with only a minority also watching the tutorials and rules reviews.

    Hi Alex. My thoughts: The trouble with lots of successive themed videos as you describe is that the topic/period may not be of interest to a particular viewer; therefore, they may not watch your channel for say, a whole month as a result. Two disliked 'monthly themes' in a row may eventually lose you that viewer.
    I would suggest no more than two period-themed videos in a row, e.g. a rules review followed by an AAR. The next tranche may be on say, an unboxing video followed by a painting one on a different period. Bench updates could then be twice monthly.
    Also, with people subscribing to lots of different channels these days, watching long videos can sometime be a 'challenge' as time might be short to cover them all.

    I do enjoy the wèkly update. In terms of other vids, is the key to do what grabs your interest as and when without being under the cosh of a strict timetable? Cheers.

    Magazine format for me please

  • @oodaloop9800
    @oodaloop9800 Місяць тому +1

    Wow, there's no consensus here is there. I'm new to the hobby, and as a newbie I find your content enjoyable but a bit "haphazard", so I would be in favour of a series of short but themed videos. To me, that would be the equivalent of staging a campaign series of wargames rather than single battles without context.

    Don't like theme idea, if you don't do the thing why watch ? WSS does it with their magazine and I really don't like it!

    • @StormofSteelWargaming
      @StormofSteelWargaming  Місяць тому

      That's the exact same argument for any video. If you don't like the theme of a video you don't watch it.
