Hello, quick question on the cascade ladder upgrade did it the new ladder come with the mounting hardware that bolts to the tent itself, I ask because my two ears broke off
Great video, exactly what I was looking for. We’re buying a trailer to mount our rtt and it’s a little too tall with out current smittybilt gen 1 with ladder. Does the telescopic ladder decrease the height of your tent and what did you do to adjust the cover so it fits without a big gap?
We didn't have to adjust the cover. There wasn't an issue with the new ladder fitting. The telescoping ladder is beefier and bigger than the sliding ladder. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
here is the link to the one i got. www.amazon.com/dp/B01N41ILAB/ We leave pillows and a blanket in the tent when folded up. just fits. Thanks for watching!
Hi, just stumbled on your video because we're looking to upgrade our mattress before a 5500 mile honeymoon. I'm debating between a 3" vs. 2". How'd you like it after sleeping on your 2"?
We added the 2" on to our 2 inch mattress that came with the tent and it made a big difference. No issues with closing the tent either. I think I avoided the 3" because of price. I would not go any less than 2".
The roof top tent ladder has the bracket on it. I just repositioned the ones on the tent to match up the new ladder and reused the bolts from the old ladder. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
Great video! I wanted the SB gen2 but impossible to find anywhere. I found plenty of the gen ones. I think I’m going to upgrade the ladder just like you did. Question for you, I have the Garvin basket style roof rack simile to yours. Did you have to use crossbars? Or does the SB reach the sides of the basket? Thanks!
Did you just use the original brackets to mount the new ladder? And do you remember which ladder you bought from CVT? It looks like there are a few different options. Thanks!
Loving your videos. Super helpful! I posted this question on your original Smitty XL video (What’s the actual length of the original mounting rails? I want the same RTT but I’m running into a similar issue with the length not reaching my racks crossbars.) but, I see you modified your aluminum mounting rails. Did you cut them & change the direction they run? I may have to do the same. Did you re-drill new holes in the tent floor for the new direction?
Hi Reuben. So, when we had the tent on the trailer I bought longer rails from cvt tents so it would work with my homemade roof rack. I think it was for their denali series I then drilled new holes in them to match the tent holes. When I moved the tent to the Jeep, I modified them again because of how the Gobi rack is. I ended up making 3 rails. I'll post a pic in the morning to the community page or I'll make a quick vid.
As far as sun light in the morning it gets bright. Bright enough that it has woken up our kids super early. If I could afford it, I would get the 23 zero rtt with the light technology that makes it dark inside.
@@WanderToGetLost Ahh bummer that sucks!! Yes the LST on 23zero is pretty awesome! 👍. We have a Walkabout72. Going to upload an in depth review this week
We deal with a lot of rain up here in New England. Have you come across any fixes for the rain pooling on the vestibule overhang. I've pulled everything tight and still get collection . Which only gets worse with more rain. Ideas
Hi Bruce. I haven't been in a driving rain with the tent, but your comment has given me an idea. I'm gonna look at the tent and see if I can fab something up and post it. I'll comment later if I think it will work or not. Stand by!
Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking about something along the lines of a fiberglass tent pole running from the front of the tent to the front of the vestibule. That way the rain would run off to the sides. Attachment will be the tricky part. Will be interested in what you come with. Thanks for the videos
@@brucecarlton667 my vestibule pole ended up snapping due to heavy rain collection. I’ve yet to figure out a fix for it except maybe purchasing the gen 2 vestibule poles that run across (horizontally and vertically) from the front tent pole to the front vestibule pole. I’m hoping they might work for that. It’s different gens but I think the sizing on everything is similar!
That's strange cause when I added a 2 inch topper to my Smittybuilt mini it wouldn't close. I ended up just adding half of the topper cause you don't really need it under your legs and it worked fine.
Have you had any trouble with the window props falling out? I just recently got one and set it up in my garage (-30°C where I am) and they don't want to stay put.
You have to put them in at the angle of the hole on the aluminum frame. If that makes sense. Once they are fully set in the hole I then bend it up and put in the grommet. The rod does go in a bit and if you do it at the right angle you will feel it seat. If you treat it like a regular straight hole it will fall out. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
@@WanderToGetLost Thanks! I'll definitely try that again, I think maybe the holes may need to be drilled out a bit more as they all seemed super shallow. It almost felt as if the rods were too short, but it may just be a seating issue. Cheers!

Very well made video. Thank you ☺️

Nice job on the upgrades.
Thanks 👍
Great review, just purchased mine!
Enjoy and have fun with it. Thanks for watching!
Liking the new ladder.
thanks for sharing the ladder upgrade

Good advise and I got the sheet and a 2" memory foam with gel. to our new XL tent. Pricey but I hope worth it in the name of comfort!
For me happy wife and happy kids equal happy life and better chance at a fun trip. haha

How did you mount the bracket to the ladder? Did you take it off the original ladder and just bolt on the telescoping one? And where at?
The roof top tent ladder has the bracket on it. I just repositioned the ones on the tent to match up the new ladder and reused the bolts from the old ladder. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
I saw you slide out the poles for the entry way. Did you use telescoping poles and do you remember the size?
Thank you
They came with the tent for the entry way. It's a u shape. The ends slide into a spot and it tensions the entry open.
@@WanderToGetLost interesting, the Gen2 has the same U shape, but not the telescoping poles. Thank you for responding back.

I actually bought longer rails for the tent from cvt and modified them to work with my roof rack.

I used the original brackets and showed in the video how I had to move them. I bought the 8 ft 5 inch ladder. Our Jeep is on a 3 inch lift.
@@WanderToGetLost Appreciate it! My 4runner has 2.5" lift, so I'll probably go the same route.

U think it's possible and if it will work run an a/c
Run two flex hose probably 2in in diameter in hose and return too the unit?
Search rooftop tent ac setups. I've seen small cooler like setups that people are using.

Is there a reason you didn't order the California King vs the Regular king foam topper?
I honestly don't have a reason. Maybe availability when I ordered. Sorry.
I have a 2014 Jeep Wrangler JK what did you use for a roofrack?
I have the gobi rack. I was lucky enough to get it used from a coworker for a sweet deal.
If you don't want the external rack style...check out the RhinoRack Backbone for JK
Where can I find them Jeep wheels?
Disregard... I just seen your video description. Sorry. Thanks
How well does this tent do in the rain.
We have yet to have any issues. This tent is also not made anymore and they have a gen II model now of the XL.
CVT, doesn't have a ladder anymore that I can see.
