Thanks for showing us this. I did something similar. I used Tasker to trigger IFTTT recipes all using Google Now. Now everything in my house is hands free!!!. Thanks
Scot Przybylski I have no idea why I can't reply to your comment (I can reply to every other one) so I'm doing it like this... I am trying as best I can to automate my house so I don't ever have to do anything manually. That being said I'm a long way off of that point in time. I find I'm using my phone probably 50% of the time. I just started using voice control so I'm still trying to get into the habit. I really like it when I'm not already using my phone (like when I'm about to go to bed) I can just tell it to go to bed and it puts my phone and house in my "sleep" mode. Hope that answers the question.
At Time 11:04. You added the %device variable in the Profile Configuration/Advanced//Variable Names and Variable Values. Right? If I use the Variabel in the Command" set the (?.+) .. still does not work. I added also the "Variable set". I am testing only with device and not with dim level. Did you have any idea why it does not recognize as assumed?
Curious, how often do you use voice to control the things you have connected when you're at home? Say vs. just going over to the lamp and turning it on or flipping a wall switch.
Thanks to your instruction I got all the basic stuff working exactly as needed. However, I wasn't able to get the variables to work. I set mine up to be identical as yours per the video but I think I'm missing something. Do you have a "For Dummies" guide on the variables?
Hmm, sorry, I haven't make many changes to this since the video. I'm not sure what could be wrong if you have followed everything in the video. I wish I could help more :(
That was the door lock. It is a setting on the lock. If you have a Vera you can use Vera Alerts to trigger audio alerts (if that's what you're interested in) based on conditions being met. Most of my devices I used this with are mounted to the wall so I can't remember if they vibrate or not. I think I turned it off but by default they did vibrate.
João Dias Thanks! Love your apps!! I did look into AutoVera and will perhaps start using it in the future. I just wanted to see if I could do it with as many of my existing apps as possible. Keep the awesome apps coming!
Hello Pete, Fantastic video! Do all these little apps (Tasker, AutoVoice) apply in 2016 or has anything changed. I have recently bought a Samsung Smartthings Hub - will your set up work with my hub? I have similar products to yours - lights, motion sensors, door locks, door and window sensors.
Thanks! Yeah, all these apps still apply today. I still use it pretty much every day. Although, the goal is to never use it again because my house it automated so well (I doubt that will ever happen...). As for the SmartThings I'm not sure. If you can get an app that has integration with Tasker then it should work but I have never used ST so I'm not sure.
cubs2313 I believe that is just a default setting in AutoVoice. There is an option in the AutoVoice settings under Google Now Integration called Always Cancel Search but I don't think that's what you're looking for... It may be worth a try to see if your phone supports cancelling the search though.
+Pete B can you do me a favor i was told that its the serial number of the device can u look on the back and see if your serial matches up with the one u specified please.
stress nero I'm not at home so I can't verify right now but another place that I can see it in UI5 is when I access the web interface remotely. It's in the address bar right after "PK_AccessPoint="
I will add it to the list but I think this video is becoming less needed now that there are so many options out there like Amazon Echo and Google Home. Being totally honest I have so many other videos on the list I don't know how soon I'll get to it.
Pete B I figured you had to have regex ticked to them variables added to the configuration screen... I believe I have everything configured however I can't get the Dim to work it's really strange :(
Pritesh Mistry I checked the settings earlier this morning and everything that's needed should be visible from the video. I can upload some screenshots if that would help though. I would suggest adding some popup notifications (or some sort of tasker notification) to test all the functionality. Start from the beginning then slowly progress deeper into the task logic. Hopefully that makes some sense. Sorry I can't provide more specific help. I'm not sure where the problem is occurring.
If you have a rooted phone, yes. I can't root my phone (work stipulation) so I can't get it to work very well. There are some workarounds but they aren't nearly as cool as just saying OK Google... Check out this video for a little more info: ua-cam.com/video/Ogch11VcvxA/v-deo.html
+Marcus Portwood I think you should be able to use AutoVoice and Tasker but not AutHomation. You may be able to find a Wink app that will perform similar functions as AutHomation but I don't use a Wink so I can't say for sure.
Hi Pete I'm trying to set the variables however I'm getting confused... On the configuration screen under the replacement section you have... %Device Device %Level Level What is that and how did you add this in..?
Pete B Thanks for replying... So the problem I am having is I can't get the Dim to work... I've created the configuration like you have and I have added 2 devices to choose from... Do I need to do anything for the level to be set as you created a variable list for the devices do I need to do anything for the level..?
I guess I'm struggling with is that you've created two variables one for device and the other for level... What I'm getting confused is where have you created that level variable and how is that applied in the same way the device variable is attached to the task... Where is the level variable set to..?
Sorry for the delay. I think I understand what you're asking. I don't have my devices with me right now to check this but I think you are looking for the Var tab in Tasker. You can set up a variable there. If you can't find it I'll try to remember to check when I get home.
Dani Mohammad Oh no! It looks like it's no longer on the play store!!! I love the app. This is a sad day for me. Here is the developer website if you want to find out more: www.authomation.net/ You could also try searching the vera forums.
Dani Mohammad I found that the beta version (which is compatible with UI7) is available here: forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,25219.0.html The play store version wasn't. Sadly the development for AutHomation has stopped :(
RJGNOW I'm not exactly sure what you mean by when it's being process but you may want to try checking "Always cancel search" in the AutoVoice | Google Now Integration settings. Maybe that's what you're looking for?
Pete B -- Thanks for the video. I'm having difficulty executing the part with variables....seems like the variable isn't being passed to the intent. I'll try to explain--if I hard code the intent with the device number and dim level it works just fine, but if I put the %device and %level in it doesn't. I've double/triple checked against your video and can't see why. Any ideas? Thanks for the help.
Hmm. No, I'm sorry, I don't have any ideas. That's strange. I'm still using the same code on my phones and it's working fine. I wish I could help but I'm not a tasker expert :(
Hi, Thanks for the upload. Any further advice over the last couple of years? I'm about to begin my venture. I'm using a combination of Alexa, broadlink, and Google and obviously, none can suit my purpose entirely so looking for a one size fits all
Hmm. It's still not perfect all these years later. If you want a lot of integration but not much customization I would look at SmartThings. It's definitely not perfect but seems to support the most things. I have a Vera and that's not perfect either but I like that it can run independently of an internet connection. They are slower to integrate but you can do more things than you can with SmartThings. I build almost all of my own sensors now with MySensors which is time consuming but a ton of fun and incredibly satisfying. If you want to go the pure DIY route check out Domoticz, OpenHAB and Home Assistant.
Nice, thanks for the reply. Yes, I'm weighing toward trying to eliminate Alexa to work exclusively with Google. Particularly having seen since their recent Duplex video (check that out if you didn't already) It would be nice to have a one size fits all but Googles integration with broadlink isn’t as good, even Alexa doesn’t work well unless its with IHC and that only really works with the TV…. I guess its going to be the time consuming path for me too, fortunately luckily I enjoy it like you! :) Thanks for your detailed response.
It worked for a day but now nothing happens, I see the "received possible commands" on phone but no action taken. Manually under tasker or smarttools things work fine. Any ideas? I have re install auto voice 3 times now but still no go.
Is AutoVoice still configured to integrate with Google Now? Have you tried any of the testing features? Have you rebooted your phone? Not sure if any of that will help but hopefully it will.
Yeah it is, I am pretty technical but no go even after reboots or re install, the problem is with auto voice I believe. I might have to try on a different phone
Hayoooo Yeah, you may want to try that. I just purchased a new tablet a couple of days ago and it is all working great. The best thing is it was only $40 on amazon. It is a RCA Voyager II Tablet 8GB Quad Core Android 5.0 here is the link if you're interested: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Z7ZACEM/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00Z7ZACEM&linkCode=as2&tag=petewill04-20&linkId=36b79b1bf410195de627075d274a51ee
Hello man, I had the same problem, the solution was that "Tasker" was not enabled, which means, that when you are IN tasker, you can make commands and what not, but once you are out of it, it cant do the commands from "outside". I made it work by clicking on the 3 dots on the home page in tasker, and press "Enable Tasker" now it should work.
It depends what you're trying to control. If you have an app on your phone already controlling the device you want to control you may not need anything else but these apps. If you can't control it from your phone you probably need some sort of smart home hub. If you don't have one already there are two free ones you may want to check out: Domoticz and OpenHAB.
Pete B thank you! i just wanna control small smart things like several smart plugs, a bluetooth receiver for my sound system which doesn't have a built in bluetooth feature, and smart bulbs or/and smart bulb sockets. for example, when i arrive home, i want my device to connect to wifi, so that it can trigger my smart bulb to turn on. or when my alarm goes on and i turn it of, this action should trigger my coffee machine which is plugged in to my smart plug, so my coffee is ready when i get out of the bed (obviously i am single hehe). sorry if my question is confusing, but i just wanna have a basic smart home automation wirhout paying extra money to a hub
suleyman tosun If you are pretty technically inclined I'd recommend playing with one of the two free options I mentioned. I've never personally used OpenHAB but I did play a little with Domoticz. They are open source so you may not get all the integrations you're looking for but I'm not sure. Hubs these days are pretty cheap. I personally use a Vera which does cost money but there is no monthly fee (and it's not cloud based). Based on what you said above I believe the Vera could handle all that you're looking to do. I know there are also lots of people who use SmartThings and Wink. I have never tried either though. Hope that helps.
The same concept should work but you will need to make changes for this to work with your setup. If you want to use Arduino and you have a home automation controller, check out MySensors.org. That's what I use for all my Arduino home automation projects.
Hi Pete B, I have followed your tutorial, and have to say it is brilliant. One question I have is that when my tablet executes to the Ok Google command, it opens a browser (as expected), sends the command to my bridge but leaves the browser window open, after executing an actual Google sear. On your demo, once a command has been sent, there appears to be a short delay before your browser is closed and your desktop is visible. Is this a quirk of your tablet or is there a setting to shut down Google if a command was successfully sent to your bridge. I am using an old Nexus Asus tablet.
Sorry for the delayed replay. I didn't get a notice of your comment for some reason... I'm not at home but I believe there is a setting in AutoVoice that can close the search after a successful command execution. If you can't find it let me know and I'll see if I can find the name of the exact setting.
Hi, first of all thanks for this tutorial, keep on doing stuff like that! Second thing, what about finding the ID of a different kind of smart device, for example I've a Yeelight RGB light bulb, but I don't know how to find the device number, supposing it is an incremental integer and I have just one device, maybe it could be something like 1 or 0, but I'd like to have better way to find that instead of counting them all ahahahah. The desktop application you showed at 12:24 to find the ID is just for vera devices isn't it? Thanks again :D
Hi. The method I'm using is with a Vera but you should be able to use another device as long as you can control it via a web request. You would need to find the specific address that your device will accept though. Hopefully that answers the question. :)
In don't know why I cannot get my galaxy 3 and tasker to open automationhd and use the voice module on there. That part of the app works great. NY ideas on how to get that to open up when I say "OK Google"
+Michael Hinchey Are you trying to get the app to launch or the apps voice command functionality to launch? I use the method in the video on my Android running ImperiHome on my wall. It works awesome. I will say Ok Google to issue a command and it will execute the command then go back to the ImperiHome dashboard.
+Pete B I am trying to get the app voice command to launch. I say OK Google and Google now responds. I would love all the easy features of authomationhd mic control which works well with Vera hub.
hey nice video, i have a home automation system called Edin by Mode lighting and i was wondering if this would work with the system, if you could look into it , it would be great help.
shyam joshi Do they have an app that integrates with Tasker? If so, then it should work. You would just need to change your commands to work with your app instead of AutHomation. Sorry I can't be more specific, I don't have the Edin system to test with.
shyam joshi No problem :) You might be able to use https commands and hard code them in Tasker. I'm not familiar with that system so it would take some investigating.
Strange, I never saw this. Currently it doesn't unless you root your phone. I am hopeful that will change with all the Google assistant changes occurring recently though.
Thanks for this video! It helped me get everything up and running with SmartThings. The only difference is you need a SmartThings plugin which is called "SharpTools". Works great though. Still trying to figure out how to dim the lights but everything else is working great. It is odd that some lights turn on right away and some take like 10 seconds. Thanks again!
HELP : Guys, so ive set up taker to turn on/off my hall room lights. THAT WORKS ! But no response from google. How can I get google to say the response I want ? I did add this in , in the response section but still nothing. I tried this on two different devices. Any suggestions ? appreciate your reply.
Hmm. I have never looked into getting a response but you may be able to add a line in Tasker to accomplish this. Lately I have been using my Google Home to do most of my control and that will say a response. I'm not sure if that's an option for you though :)
Hello. I see your video and it is very cool! But to controll the light what else must you have? You cant just control your lights in house with just a phone with an app and a lamp plugged into the socket. what do you need to make this work? :-) Thanks for answer :-)
Jey key I am using Vera (getvera.com) to control my zwave lights. I'm also using MySensors (mysensors.org) to control lights. MySensors is a plugin that integrates with Vera. Vera is the brains behind everything. Hope that helps.
RJGNOW I think ImperiHome has built in voice commands but they don't work with "OK Google". You can execute scenes from Tasker using ImperiHome but I couldn't find a way to control devices individually. Hope that makes sense.
Boyer Kenny If you want to control things like I have them set up you will need to buy a Vera controller. Either the Vera Plus or Vera Edge. Vera is a DIY setup so you will need to do quite a bit research/learning to get everything working. I personally enjoy doing that so it was a natural fit for me. If you're looking for something to work right out of the box without any configuration Vera may not be for you. Hope that helps.
I don't have a video on the Vera but it is fairly straight forward if you have one. You can check it out at getvera.com. I do have a few videos about MySensors which will allow you to create your own home automation devices. Check out this playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLGzVpwPAKnPZ6F4fY8AevfVmcHdJFpKma.html
Pete B how can we connect sonoff smart switch with,ok Google command????,like we know we can control it with Google home and Amazon echo but can we control it with our smartphone ok Google ?... your work is awesome ...mate....
Dennis Daniel I have been learning this for well over a year and I'm still learning. I think you probably need to decide what you're trying to accomplish then you will be able to know what you need help with. If you don't have any idea where to start visit getvera.com and browse through their website. Vera has its flaws but it still works pretty good. Sorry I couldn't be more specific.
how can we connect sonoff smart switch with,ok Google command????,like we know we can control it with Google home and Amazon echo but can we control it with our smartphone ok Google ?... your work is awesome ...mate....
I don't have any Sonoff switches but if you can control it with a Vera this method should work. If you already have it working with a google home then the Google assistant on your phone should work too (if you have assistant on your phone)
You could try Wink or SmartThings controllers too. They should work with the google assistant on your phone (depending where you are and what phone you have).
+Joey vera You are right, it is a little complicated. I wish it wasn't but this is the simplest I could make it for now. Unfortunately this is pretty much the state of DIY home automation. It is still a little complicated. Some day that will change but if you aren't excited about trying it yourself you may find yourself very frustrated with home automation as a whole. So, all that to say, I can't do it for you but I'll do my best to help where I can along the way. Please give it a shot and post back if you get stuck.
+Pete B Thanks for the response. Sharptools, Commandr, AutoShortcut and Tasker are the tools used to implement this system with SmartThings. I can provide a link if anyone needed it. Otherwise, thanks for this share, I would have never known to search if I hadn't seen this.
Here is a link to a similar application, for, "SmartThings." community.smartthings.com/t/how-i-super-easily-set-up-voice-control/18846 Thanks again to Pete B for the initial post!
I used to use it with the Google assistant on my old phones (I think it was called Google Now) but now I have Google Home running with ha-bridge. It is also supposed to start working with Google Assistant on the phone soon too. I like the google home because it is a speaker and can answer questions (and hear me) better than my phones could.
Thanks for showing us this. I did something similar. I used Tasker to trigger IFTTT recipes all using Google Now. Now everything in my house is hands free!!!. Thanks
Nice video. You may also want to checkout the review of home automation on my blog at *bryanreviews. com/home-automation-review/* Thanks, Granville.
SmoothbassmanStudios how can I do this please help
hi, i need help. i tried this and nothing. any time google respond i see the pop up but nothing on vera.

I added also the "Variable set". I am testing only with device and not with dim level.
Did you have any idea why it does not recognize as assumed?
schlumpfbumpf No, I didn't have to add the %device to the variable names. Try checking "Use Regex" in the profile configuration.
Another great video. I'm new to Vera and MySensors, so watching these really helps. Keep them coming.
PrepperLink Thanks, glad you are finding them useful!
Curious, how often do you use voice to control the things you have connected when you're at home? Say vs. just going over to the lamp and turning it on or flipping a wall switch.
hi . i am making this similar project voice control home automation .i need your help.
I have been having a little bit of trouble with my phone it says its not detecting. Does your house have to be new?

What was that jingle I heard when the front door locked? What device made that noise? Does your phone vibrate each time a requested task is performed?
That was the door lock. It is a setting on the lock. If you have a Vera you can use Vera Alerts to trigger audio alerts (if that's what you're interested in) based on conditions being met.

You need to find the device number from your Vera device (light, lock, etc.). In UI5 it's on the advanced tab
Hello great video. I have Vera edge and need to knowwhere is the Vera unit ID number.
+stress nero Sorry I'm not running UI7 so I don't know where it is there. In UI5 it's right at the top left of the screen.

thank you!
Excellent! Hey How did u do the sonos connection with google? Thank you!
It's actually controlled through my home automation controller (Vera). So, I issue the command to Vera which then controls the Sonos.
can you use this same application with the wink hub....? thanks
+Marcus Portwood I think you should be able to use AutoVoice and Tasker but not AutHomation. You may be able to find a Wink app that will perform similar functions as AutHomation but I don't use a Wink so I can't say for sure.

RJGNOW I'm not exactly sure what you mean by when it's being process but you may want to try checking "Always cancel search" in the AutoVoice | Google Now Integration settings. Maybe that's what you're looking for?

That is it, but strangely enough with that selected, It always cancelled the first attempt. So I have to say "Ok Google" twice...
Hmm, that is strange... you might need to contact support to see if they have any ideas.

***** Thanks for the response!
do i need a smart hub or only my smartphone with these apps is good to go?
Pete B alright, i will use those free ones first ans see what happens. thank you very much for your help
it is compatible with Arduino with wifi???
The same concept should work but you will need to make changes for this to work with your setup. If you want to use Arduino and you have a home automation controller, check out MySensors.org. That's what I use for all my Arduino home automation projects.
Ok google: Im done now, wipe my ass for me.....
Google: Wiping ass... Why can't you get siri to do this
Siri: I'm an vegan. I don't go near meat. Why do you think I'm an apple
Kris Fuller hahahahahahhahahahahhahahahahahahahahaahhahahhahahahaahahahahaha
If you can't find it let me know and I'll see if I can find the name of the exact setting.
what lights did u use
I have a variety of lights but most of them were built with MySensors (see www.mysensors.org/build/dimmer).
+Michael Hinchey
Are you trying to get the app to launch or the apps voice command functionality to launch?
I use the method in the video on my Android running ImperiHome on my wall. It works awesome. I will say Ok Google to issue a command and it will execute the command then go back to the ImperiHome dashboard.
+Pete B
I am trying to get the app voice command to launch. I say OK Google and Google now responds. I would love all the easy features of authomationhd mic control which works well with Vera hub.
Michael Hinchey Oh, ok. Sorry, I don't know how to do that.
hey nice video, i have a home automation system called Edin by Mode lighting and i was wondering if this would work with the system, if you could look into it , it would be great help.
shyam joshi Do they have an app that integrates with Tasker? If so, then it should work. You would just need to change your commands to work with your app instead of AutHomation. Sorry I can't be more specific, I don't have the Edin system to test with.
hey mate sorry for the VERY late reply, Edin is a Webpage based automation system (not sure if that helps)
shyam joshi No problem :)
You might be able to use https commands and hard code them in Tasker. I'm not familiar with that system so it would take some investigating.
does it work for smart watches
Strange, I never saw this. Currently it doesn't unless you root your phone. I am hopeful that will change with all the Google assistant changes occurring recently though.
I watched your video on my phone and everytime you said "ok Google", Google vame up 😂
how to download the AutHomationHd?
+Azik Nforsa The app dev stopped developing but he made it available here: forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,25219.0.html
Pro trick: you can watch series on instaflixxer. I've been using them for watching all kinds of movies during the lockdown.
@Dariel Lian yea, I have been watching on InstaFlixxer for years myself =)
@Dariel Lian Yup, I have been using InstaFlixxer for years myself =)
Hi, how can I contact you, and maybe pay you to help me set this up
+Joey vera Hi Joey, where are you getting stuck?
Can you do the same with ImperiHome
RJGNOW I think ImperiHome has built in voice commands but they don't work with "OK Google". You can execute scenes from Tasker using ImperiHome but I couldn't find a way to control devices individually. Hope that makes sense.
how I add a vera
The Vera is my home automation controller. I got it from getvera.com/
+Pete B do I have to buy anything on the website
Boyer Kenny If you want to control things like I have them set up you will need to buy a Vera controller. Either the Vera Plus or Vera Edge. Vera is a DIY setup so you will need to do quite a bit research/learning to get everything working. I personally enjoy doing that so it was a natural fit for me. If you're looking for something to work right out of the box without any configuration Vera may not be for you. Hope that helps.
well that was all about the app , how to connect devices to this actually
The devices are already connected and accessible in my home automation controller (Vera). Hopefully that answers the question.
no i want link if yo u have posted your video about how to do that...
I don't have a video on the Vera but it is fairly straight forward if you have one. You can check it out at getvera.com.
I do have a few videos about MySensors which will allow you to create your own home automation devices. Check out this playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLGzVpwPAKnPZ6F4fY8AevfVmcHdJFpKma.html
ok thnx
Pete B how can we connect sonoff smart switch with,ok Google command????,like we know we can control it with Google home and Amazon echo but can we control it with our smartphone ok Google ?... your work is awesome ...mate....
Change "Ok Google" to "Computer", hack the response sounds to Star Trek ones and install smart phones in to your wall. Welcome to geek paradise.
How???
Great video and I like your tasker tutorial
i real went to know how this stuff works and what kind of product am i going to use and step by step installation.because am a novae.thank you.reply

I don't have any Sonoff switches but if you can control it with a Vera this method should work. If you already have it working with a google home then the Google assistant on your phone should work too (if you have assistant on your phone)
thanks for your reply ,but sadly I don't have google home ,I have google assistant in my phone....
Pete B can u provide me the link of vera I can buy it...is it on aliexpress?
I don't think it's on Ali. You can get them at getvera.com though.
You could try Wink or SmartThings controllers too. They should work with the google assistant on your phone (depending where you are and what phone you have).
As did not even start
Looks complicated for me
+Joey vera You are right, it is a little complicated.
Lol Everytime you say ok Google my phone activates. I'll eventually make it to the end of this video 😊
thanks
Anyone have any luck replicating this with SmartThings?
+JonnyRusso Sorry, I don't use SmartThings. I hope you can get it working though!
+Pete B Thanks for the response. Sharptools, Commandr, AutoShortcut and Tasker are the tools used to implement this system with SmartThings. I can provide a link if anyone needed it. Otherwise, thanks for this share, I would have never known to search if I hadn't seen this.
JonnyRusso Great, thanks for the update! A link would be great if you don't mind. It may help someone else trying to do the same thing.
I use my home itself
Here is a link to a similar application, for, "SmartThings."

Thanks again to Pete B for the initial post!
+JonnyRusso Great, thanks for the follow up!

Does autovoice works with the Google assistant on the mobile device or it needs Google home
Pete B / but the phone could be used remotely like for home automation .thanks
True. This should still work if you are intercepting the commands with AutoVoice.
