I started my career in the textile industry about 20 years ago. There’s nothing gentle about the handling of denim in a mill. I like raw selvage denim and have never been easy on it. I wash mine ever 5-10 wears and have been happy with the results. In fact, clean textiles last much longer than their dirty counterparts.
Iron heart is the pinnacle of denim jeans. My 634-XHF are the best jeans I’ve ever owned or seen in person. I’ve worn every where from at work in the oilfield to dinner with my wife or riding my motorcycle and they’ve had no problems holding up. They don’t even have a single tear or hole. Honestly they’ll probably out live me🙂 well worth the money
I have been very impressed by IH, and feel quite loyal to the brand; I really need to force myself to try more japanese denim... heavyweight of course!
+JOSH. They are also almost fireproof during wear. I was wearing mine the day that we stomped out a grass fire and I was too involved in getting the fire out to bother about embers on my jeans. When a bush caught alight, I was stomping knee high flames with a couple of guys wearing heavy cowhide leather biker jeans and they were amazed that the only damage to my IH jeans was the bottom edge of the legs scorching. After a good wash, their are only a few small scorch marks on the denim and no holes. I probably wash mine more often than most people due to my work, but they are still fading well and look awesome.
My IH-555-01 are seven years old and look similar to DevonReviewer's jeans in this video. No holes and no sign of any areas needing any attention at all. I spend much of my time behind a keyboard though, don't ride bikes and rarely do any manual labour in these jeans. They have turned out to be extremely good value for money.
Another great video update on the 555's. Loving my 777's and yes they are expensive but the 21oz is very special denim. Mine have a long way to go to be looking as good as yours, but already I can see where the fades are appearing. I'm now hooked on Iron Heart and own a number of their other items but up until now the 777's are the only item of their denim I own, so I'm about to put that right and my next purchase will be a Type III Jacket of the Overdyed variety. Looking forward to the first update on the denim shirt.
Hanging at the end of the day really does prevent the odd odors from developing, and it cures any smells that may have developed if you’ve thrown them in a drawer. I have this same pair, 3 months in, just starting to see any whispering and honeycombs. I oversized the waist and have them on suspenders - so comfortable and lovely to wear every day, can’t wait for January!
It’s almost criminal to sideline those jeans while you break in another pair. Life is too short, and you are just getting out of the starting gate with the Iron Hearts. With a little love, you should easily get a decade out of those jeans. And if you did, you would never trade them for a brand new pair. Regardless of what you choose to do, though, wear them in good health. You’re a true enthusiast, and I applaud you for keeping the vibe alive.
GREAT CHANNEL! Glad I found and sub. I just found that my $10 levis from Walmart were discontinued. going to invest in a $400 pair and hope they last a few years, instead of 6 months.
Unless they last twenty years you’d be better off with the $10 Levis if you do the maths. $400 a pair. Are you serious? Honestly you suckers. This bloke has way too much money and time on his hands clearly that this matters this much. He needs to get a real life. I bet he’s not getting laid. This is up there with someone examining their navel fluff in excruciating detail and making a video about it.
Nice review. I really fancy these though they could be a bit tight for me on the thighs and ankles. I’ve got a few pairs of Rogue Territory Stanton’s which are my favourite fit. These are slightly slimmer but hopefully they’ll work. *Update: Purchased these and they’re a perfect fit. Better stitching and cotton than the Stanton’s. Much easier to break-in and wear. The Indigo Snake leather patch is iconic.
I have seen a bunch of these types of videos, and it surprises me how fast these jeans wear out. I wear my cotton chinos (from Bonobos) to work five days a week. I have 3 pairs of "work" chinos in my closet, so they get a ton of wear. My job has tons of friction, I go from standing to squatting to kneeling to sitting often throughout the day. And yet my pants typically last for three or four years before they start to show significant signs of wear. I have always been interested in buying quality products that will last for a long time (I have had my Filson Double Mac for 25 years), but these high end selvedge denim brands seem to have very short lives.
@@DevonReviewer you mentioned that you might be looking at Samurai jeans and i really cant recommend them enough. I picked up a pair of S0511XX and they are amazing - full of little details and the fabric is fantastic. I got them from www.okayamadenim.com/ and the service was really good. After shrinking and stretching they seem to end up back at the size in the chart. You might need one of the slightly skinnier cuts to closer match your IH555s..
Do you think the washes make the fades set in faster? I have a pair of 16oz jeans and and the fades are barely setting in after 4 months. I don’t want to cheat the fade process but I want to see some more results-what do u think?
Denim are beautiful, I’m waiting on a pair of PBJ xx-011 which should be here in a couple days, but I feel like I’m gonna pull the trigger on these iron hearts.
I bought a brand new pair of the 25oz in 777 fit in January. These things are an absolute menace to break in, but they are slowly getting softer. I can tell I will be wearing these jeans for years.
Great review. Question: I see you have these in a size 32, which I am about to purchase the same size in the 555-01..I know it's virtually impossible to give anyone sizing advice but are you generally a 32 in other jeans? These do look slightly slimmer in thigh and knee than I'm used to but I'm about to take the leap. The 33 waist seems huge, so that doesn't seem like an option. I'm mostly a 32 these days but know this heavier weight denim can change the feel of a slim jean.
G'day mate you did a reply to Devon about iron heart sizing and I see Devon sat on the fence about your reply did you end up getting those pair of 32 iron hearts and were they the right size for you because I'm getting mixed messaging about Japanese selvedge denim. On one site they say size up bro you must do it and on another site they say size down very hard to gauge on this it would be good to here from someone who might of done what I'm about to do . Look if you didn't get them that's kool but if you did would love to here how you went I'm a true 34 in say levis but very worried about the pair I ordered witch happen to be 777s interested on your thoughts!
Woow very nice! I’ve been watching and enjoying your videos lately! I just purchased a black pair of iron heart 8301s(my first heavyweight pair) & I’m excited to see what happens 🤓. Do you have any Raw denim trucker jackets?? Anyway thanks for doing these reviews.
agindisguise09 I own one of their ultra heavy flannels and their bad ass. Their basically a tank. You can wear it as lighter coat. But also wear it on a spring day. The craftsmanship is unparalleled
I remember you made your video on these. Iron heart is honestly the best Japanese denim brand hands down. They’re just too good on everything. I bought a pair of the Devils cut last year, with the natural indigo dye and they’ve yet to fade, and I’ve washed them twice in the machine. Also recently bought 18oz beatle busters second hand for $100, couldn’t pass them up. However my daily’s atm is a pair of 3sixteen ST-100xk loomstate. They’re awesome and I would recommend them to you! Thanks for the video man, the jeans are fantastic! PS: Ever use Reddit? There’s a forum called “Raw denim” and there is a lot of folks in there with a lot of passion for raw selvedge denim. You should totally check it out and join them if you haven’t already!
BigBadMarketer I’ve never owned a pair of Oni secret denim however I’ve heard many great things. Although they’re notorious for stretching considerably after multiple wears. 3sixteen tends to be very comfortable from day 1, and with wear they become ridiculously soft, like pajama soft, no joke. Iron Heart jeans, IMO are the best denim for raw selvedge. I have a pair of the 555-01 “Super Slim” in their 21oz fabric and it’s stupid comfortable at first wear. A year later and they’re my favorite pair. These three brands are great, but if you’re willing to spend a tad more, go with Iron Heart and I promise you not regret it 👍
@@aether4554 Hey Diego!! thx for reply...you are helping me decide!!!... on scale of 1-10 (10 being most comfortable) how would you rate the 3sixteen and the 21oz ironheart??? I am asking to gauge how comfy the ironheart might be because Ive had 3sixteen as well and it was unreal!!! then I thought momotaro would be even better because they have zimbabwe cotton and are more expensive but they werent as comfy as 3sixteen ...3sixteen was on a class of its own!!! So yea how would u compare the ironheart /10 and 3sixteen /10 ?? cheers!!
BigBadMarketer If you decide to buy Iron Hearts signature 21oz denim, it’s gonna definitely be softer than the 3sixteen brand without a doubt. A lot of heavy weight denim feels in fact heavy, but with Iron heart in particular, they feel lighter than 21oz. The break in period will be very easy and within multiple wears, they start to have that “worn in” feel to them. Don’t get wrong though, 3sixteen is amazing denim too, their loomstate XK fabric is top notch, but honestly Iron Heart just does it all better. Don’t take it from me though, purchase Iron hearts 21oz from their multiple cuts and see for yourself! 😉
I never wash my jeans. I don’t own anything as heavy and tough as those iron hearts, but for regular jeans, washing them absolutely messes up the finish on them. I should probably backtrack by stating that I’m not doing any dirty work or sweating in those jeans, just normal wear, but I stand by not washing them.
I have a question about the sizing of these specific jeans: On their website they say that these jeans won't shrink but will stretch about an inch on the waist with wear. Looking at the sizes seems like I am a 31 but considering the stretch I could get a size 30. Would you recommend sizing down or will the stretch make it more confortable considering the weight of these jeans? Thanks.
0:57 "the other jeans I have, they're pretty much done" are you talking about your levis 511 eternal day selvedge? your huit denim? i'm so curious. it's been 2 years since your levis 511 video with the soak i notice you haven't talked much about those jeans again.
So far most jeans are retired after their year of wear, both the Hiuts and Levi's are retired but still get worn on occasion.. both were showing significant signs of wear and do need repair to ensure they don't fail. The Hiuts have blowouts on the crotch and the Levi's blowouts on the backs of the knees; this is not unusual. AND Hiut will repair for free, I just need to organise myself to send them in!
i had a pair of jeans, 13 oz or so and wore them for about 9 months and they blew out in the crotch as i wore them all the time, maybe a little too much with only one wash
DevonReviewer thanks! Love your vids by the way, been wearing 3sixteen 100x CT as my first denim project for the last coupe months. New to the hobby but thinking of getting these as my next project in the 21 OZ 888S
whats softest comfiest jeans??? Oni denim 20 oz secret selvedge or PBJ or 3sixteen supima cotton or something else?? looking to buy in straight leg thanks!!
thanks for the reply!! How would you rate the comfort between the 3sixteen and Iron Heart??? 3sixteen were my first pair, then I bought two pairs of momotaro and they were still comfortable but not nearly as comfy as the 3sixteens!!! How do they compare with ironheart around the 6 month mark?? Apparently the secret denim 20oz is comfy like sweatpants so im trying to decide between Oni and ironheart!!!
Your jeans get blown out in a year or two? Man what are you doing in them? Bull riding? Breaking broncos? I have three pairs of Wranglers that are all over 5 years old and will see 5 more years yet.
Scuse me! I have had a pair of levis 501s made in Mexico for 30 years, the only damage was thinning at the crutch which I patched, to pay 300 clams for a pair of jeans that last 2 years you must be a saudi prince or summat!
kwfown I don’t think they ever stop fading, they lighten in colour ever so slightly every time you go out in the sun but the speed of fading will increase dramatically if you wash them regularly.
I can see that the cuff area are looking bad (in terms of wear). I have my UB401 (almost 2 years old) with no signs of major wear (except in the crouch, only small amounts though) even on the cuff area cuz I always un-cuffed them every time I rest them, here is my UB401 denim instagram.com/p/BrNISUNnUCY/
I don't see anything wrong with that unbranded denim, on the contrary I really like how they fades (even though mine is more faded than that), and in terms of what that UB denim is bad on the breaking in process?, I have UB401 (14oz), N&F kaijumonster (16.5oz), Ironheart 777-21oz, Pikebrothers 1958 limited edition from Kurabo mills (21 oz), Lee 101+ (black selvedge denim, 11-12oz), and Jcrew kaihara selvedge denim (11-12oz), all the denim (except for Lee and Jcrew which have lightweights fabrics) is hard to wear for the first time, not to mention my selvedge denim jacket from Momotaro 2105sp2 (15oz), LVC type 1 70502xx (around 13-14oz), Nudie kenny (13oz). Go check my Instagram instagram.com/zeinharis/
The signature Iron Heart 21 oz denim has a bit of stiffness to it when new, but not like the rigid stiffness of lighter denim made with a tighter (more dense) weave. 21 oz is a looser weave that is quite breathable and silicone coated to reduce bleed. It softens quickly and becomes very supple and comfortable, as long as you size them correctly so they are not too tight in the thighs, knees and crotch when sitting down. My own IH-555-01 are 7 years old (with light use) and look very similar to DevonReviewer's jeans in this video. They have never developed any holes or needed any repairs at all. I expect they could serve me well for at least another 10 years. I rarely wear them during hotter days in the UK summertime, but the rest of the time they are breathable enough.
Hi, I’m considering buying some 555 21oz. I asked in fb IH forums and most users said they buy a size small in the waist because they usually give up one size with use. This happened to many of them. Was this your case? Did they streched the width?
The waist of my size 31 IH-555-01 was 32.4 inches (82.3 cm) when new and stretched to 33.0 inches (83.8 cm) easily after I put on a bit of weight. When I wash them they usually go back to 32.5" and quickly stretch back to 33.0". Most of the forum users say it will stretch an inch (2.54 cm) in the waist relatively easily. The thighs have stretched only 0.1" (0.25 cm) and the knees are 0.18" (0.45 cm) *smaller* than when new, because of the creases forming. The rises have not stretched at all. So you need to be careful about sizing correctly for your body - mine are tight when sitting down and too tight behind the knees when I squat all the way to the floor. I am 67 kg and 178 cm tall and would not be able to wear a size smaller in this style because of the slim thighs. The measurements provided on the Iron Heart website were very accurate for my jeans.
I can't understand spending $350 on a pair pants that are past there best after one year...that's insane!! I would spend that much money if they lasted at least 5 years.
You think these jeans are spent after a couple of years? And you spend this much? Jesus. I wish the Calico miners could see this. In the 1940s a girl found a pair of Levis and they looked amazing after 50 years.
@1:50 Idk why the fuck they are called straight when they fit you like skinny jeans. I wear lvc 501 1933. NOW THOSE ARE STRAIGHT FIT NO BULLSHIT. That’s why I cannot buy these new brands because I think they’re trying to get everyone in the skinny pair of fucking pants 👖 . I’ve had to buy them return Multiple times multiple brands. Levi’s is the one brand for me.
Dan Van Hoose hipster or not. These pants will outlive 10-20 pairs of pants you may go through. They’re worth the money and look amazing. Also since they’re so thick and strong a lot of blue collar workers opt for jeans like these to use in the late fall or winter. Raw and Selvedge denim is just better in every possible way.

Hi, the shirt is from a UK high street retailer, Joules, nothing too special but super soft and very good value!
DevonReviewer thanks! Love your vids by the way, been wearing 3sixteen 100x CT as my first denim project for the last coupe months. New to the hobby but thinking of getting these as my next project in the 21 OZ 888S
Pliz, make review of 511 Levi's jeans....
How was the range of motion in the thighs and hips when new? How has that changed over time?
Hi, it's true that You need to Buy them one or two sizes up ? Thanks.
How are these compared to your other denim?
Check out the original wrangler cowboy cut jean one of the best and they have a skinny version too
Will keep an eye out for those
DevonReviewer one of the best jeans I’ve ever had
very nice
What was the name of the second jeans in the video clip ?
How many days per week would you be wearing them
whats softest comfiest jeans???
Oni denim 20 oz secret selvedge or PBJ or 3sixteen supima cotton or something else?? looking to buy in straight leg thanks!!
thanks for the reply!! How would you rate the comfort between the 3sixteen and Iron Heart??? 3sixteen were my first pair, then I bought two pairs of momotaro and they were still comfortable but not nearly as comfy as the 3sixteens!!! How do they compare with ironheart around the 6 month mark?? Apparently the secret denim 20oz is comfy like sweatpants so im trying to decide between Oni and ironheart!!!
how the hell did u button them up? i've been struggling for 30 mins to get the rivets through
Your jeans get blown out in a year or two? Man what are you doing in them? Bull riding? Breaking broncos? I have three pairs of Wranglers that are all over 5 years old and will see 5 more years yet.
Scuse me! I have had a pair of levis 501s made in Mexico for 30 years, the only damage was thinning at the crutch which I patched, to pay 300 clams for a pair of jeans that last 2 years you must be a saudi prince or summat!
What's your height and wait
They are very cheap ,why do you think i buy one ?i got over 30 pair of nudie jeans and i m ver happy
Hi do you iron these jeans?
Is it hot wearing it?
Does the waist size shrink after u wash them?
Expensive as fuck too.
0:54 How do you know when a pair of jean is done fading?
kwfown I don’t think they ever stop fading, they lighten in colour ever so slightly every time you go out in the sun but the speed of fading will increase dramatically if you wash them regularly.
Orang indo bro? Saya punya momotaro 0306-sp, kira2 fadesnya sebagus IH-555 kah?
Comey
The five letters that you have managed to type.. I don’t know what they mean, and I don’t think you know either
is it soft ? is it comfortable honestly hehe
@@RichardADastardly thank you much for your detailed reply
Anyone either have a pair for sale or a source to get some that are legit
All this for only £263.00
paul greenwood and well worth it
Worth twice the price ;)

Better off getting a pair of Levis 1890 xx 501s.
I can't understand spending $350 on a pair pants that are past there best after one year...that's insane!! I would spend that much money if they lasted at least 5 years.
Oo-ar!
Will be heading into town on my combine harvester later on today
First
Winner!
You think these jeans are spent after a couple of years? And you spend this much? Jesus. I wish the Calico miners could see this. In the 1940s a girl found a pair of Levis and they looked amazing after 50 years.
@1:50
Idk why the fuck they are called straight when they fit you like skinny jeans.
Another hipster fancy pants wearer.
Got a pair of Nudie raw denim & they are no where near to the characteristic of these fades, I need to man up and spend £300 I think
killamist666 i love the look of these as well as the 25oz ones, but it is a hell of a lot of money
