  • The Foundation for Rural Integrated Enterprises & Development (FRIEND) is a GNDR member in Fiji. Working with over 500 communities, FRIEND utilises social, health and economic interventions for community development. Through this integrated approach, FRIEND empowers communities by sharing knowledge, skills and resources.
To demonstrate the impacts climate change is having on the daily lives of communities in Fiji, FRIEND produced a video focussing on the three communities they work with. Risks such as rising sea levels, increased flooding, landslides, water contamination, power cuts and soil erosion mean that communities lives and livelihoods are in jeopardy.
FRIENDs work aims to counter this and support a grassroots resilience movement by providing communities with sustainable technologies such as solar-powered lights to act as back-ups when power cuts occur, as well as providing water filtration systems and planting vitava grass to counter soil erosion.
