I converted all my reader ports from RP-TNC to BNC quick connectors, it's peace of mind that I don't have to fiddle with the threaded connection in the dark when I am in a hurry.

Agreed. The RP-TNC connectors on the Race Result mats are tight when connecting into the FX9500 and Fx9600 readers. I thought about getting pigtail cables and just connecting them to the side of my timing box spread out more so it's easier to quick connect them. I have the half mat with 6 antennas and 2 blanks to offer a wider start line for chip starts with a panel antenna on the end and one on my timing box. I will try staggering the mat before the panel antennas by about a foot next race. I have a Canon digital camera that I've been using the last three races to take finish line pictures and many of them were triggered 5 ft or more before the person actually crosses the timing mat so I know those panel antennas are definitely reading quicker but not always.

I believe raceresult will also stop selling those mats when they finally release their new version that will only be compatible with their ubidium system. The race result mats come with BNC connectors by default (what your black box timing mats have) as that is what their decoder boxes use. You must have opted for the RP-TNC cables for your racereult mats when you ordered (its not the default) which I guess going by your video made it harder to connect after you put those adapters on your TNC connectors.

Yes, that's right, I opted for the RP-TNC because I wanted the mat to connect directly to the reader. I suspect that if I got the BNC connectors and asked for them to include the same adapters that BlackBox included that it would be an extra cost. Since I've only ever used RP-TNC connectors I didn't realize how much faster those connectors are. So even though using adapters might not be ideal, it sure does make connecting/disconnecting easier.

Do you have any recomendations for rfid tags and readers for a over engineered dog door?

If purchased from my company, we can only sell them for whatever the currently listed price (including any promotions) on their websites. So people can buy directly from them or from us. Of course we get a small kick-back to compensate for facilitating the sale. Basically schools (where we are already set up as a vendor) typically buy them from us and others can buy them from us or directly from them. Either way, it's the same price and they get the same warranty, delivery time, and everything else.
I just checked BlackBox's website and as of today their 2.6 meter mat is listed for $1,495: bbtiming.com/shop/usd/93?fromList=true
As for RaceResult, Jamie Chandler runs the hardware side of the business for me and can get a quote on them, typically their half mat (2.4 meters) is slightly more expensive unless there is a promotion going on - which is very rare, but might become more common with their new mat coming out.
