  • Just a note that Crazepony only sells this antenna it does not make it. The same antenna is sold by other sellers on amazon.

    I have the same antenna but mine had a broken soder joint. So I sodered it back and now it should work fine.

    The good antenna has also been assembled differently to the bad one. ....On the good one, the square patch parasitic has its copper elements facing the circular copper patches.
    On the bad one, the square patches on the parasitic plate face the incoming signal.

    It does not have to be error with the dimensions. If the dielectric material (laminate) is different (different permittivity or thickness) then the dimensions of the patches need to be suitably altered. As can be seen from the video the materials of both antennas have different colors therefore they might have different parameters. Although form the color it seems like they are made on FR4 which have different parameters depending on the shop where they are sold. At this frequency range the shift of 0.1 in permittivity can change the center frequency of ~100 MHz.

    Hello, driven elements does seem to match between good and bad antenna but it seems that the feed lines on a good one are a bit wider. It might be that there is a bad impedance matching of the feed line on a bad antenna... It would be interesting to see if the bad antenna would match up with the performance if assembled with passive elements from a good one.

    With this antenna @25mw at ~250 meters I got some little interference. On the sender was a circular polarised foxeer antenna.

    I got one of these...did not work very well at all, so, I took it apart.
    What I found was the two parasitic elements had been assembled backwards.!!!!
    I watched carefully as you took the white cased one apart noting the plate orientations, mine were on backwards to this one..!!
    You can easily assemble this antenna incorrectly, the girl in China obviously did when she screwed mine together.
    Something worth mentioning in your video perhaps...?

    Fantastic video yet again and after 5 years still holds up.
    Any idea if this can still be bought anywhere as I need 8 for 4 routers I'm adding external sma connectors to. I have the 2.4ghz omni and directional ordered but I could not find affordable decent 5.8 directional ants

    Hi Andrew, I've just downloaded the art work however I'm unsure as to weather it is to scale.
    Are all the panel squares meant to be 25mm? When I scale it up in cad the panel ends up 85x89mm. is that how big it is?
    What is the actual dimensions of the 3 panels?
    regards,
    Walt.

    Could you make a review about the currently very popular FPV (racing) antenna "Realacc Triple Feed Patch-1 5.8GHz 9.4dBi" (for the goggles) measure the SWR-curve and explain what's behind the idea of the unusual contruction?

    How about a 2.4 ghz version.

    What is the size of that? 14dBi equates to an apperture of about 50sq.cm or 7cm x 7cm. From the look of it seems just about plausible(assuming 100% apperture efficiency).

    Could you try and swap out the parasitic elements of the working one with one that is under performing and see what difference it makes? That could prove your point one way or the other as to it’s just the P elements that is all that is changed. Just thought. Oh, and when you get your results, if better undo see if worse then redo. I always try to fix something, undo the fix, duplicate the error then re fix and test again. Too many blue moon fixes out there from people. Until they replicate the results both ways I don’t trust the fix. Any sir, thank your for the lessons. I was curious on a side note if you could show how to make an antenna or how to modify one (2.4) that I could keep along the lines of a building. Sort of like stop at the sidewalk or follow the boundaries of their properties. That’s one question and second how the hell can I jam (hypothetically speaking of course) a commercial 2.4 and or 5.x GHz commercial access point on a wisp that is legally broadcasting? Calling the authorities does no good, we’ve tried that. Again, thank your from Texas for sharing your knowledge sir.

    Hi Andrew, thank you for the informative video. But what I have missed is an impression about the distances between the active and the parasitic elements, mean between the three panels and also the thickness of the double layer panel. As it seems to me, those in all 4 layers have specific distances to each other, which might be of some importance. Can you say something about these distances please ?

    • @andrewmcneil
      @andrewmcneil  6 років тому

      it is 2mm between all three. The thickness of the reflector and the driven element PCB is also 2mm, 1mm thicker than the cheap one. So maybe that also plays a role in making this one perform better. Thanks for pointing it out. Andrew

    Hi Andrew... can i ask something please. If i was going have a go and use this design to make it into 2100 MHz 3G. How do i calculate the sizes and spacings please?

    Been using these (Vertically Polarised) 14 dbi antennas for years now....I have two of them on my Diversity Monitor, aimed slightly outwards to each other which gives me a wide beam to fly in....Been out to 4kms no problem.
    They work really well for me and I just have a standard Rubber Duck on my VTX.
    What amazes me is that the one you took apart in your video had NO LABEL INDICATING IT WAS A LINEAR, VERTICALLY POLARISED ANTENNA....Our Chinese friends are always guilty of doing this with their antennas....
    They make circular Polarised ones that look externally exactly the same....lol.
    These days I use 1280mhz, it's effortless with way more range than 5.8G.
    You should also consider amending the title to this clip, pointing out that this antenna is a Linear Vertically Polarised type and NOT Circular Polarised. Otherwise, your viewers will be trying to use it with a Skew.

    Is that one RHCP or LHCP... Do they do sma as well. I tried their website.. but no joy there.. do you know who makes these?

    • @EnglishTurbines
      @EnglishTurbines 6 років тому

      Neither, this patch antenna is NOT circular polarised....its a vertically polarised linear antenna.....You need a Rubber Duck on your vtx....Not a Skew.

    • @frankaldous4053

      EnglishTurbines I asked because I believe Andrew did make a rhcp patch antenna ages ago

    • @EnglishTurbines
      @EnglishTurbines 6 років тому

      You asked if it was RHCP or LHCP....The answer is the same....neither.....The flat Panel antennas which claim to be CP usually perform very badly indeed.
