SIMPLIFYING the PAST TENSE in GERMAN | Bausteine zwei
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 чер 2023
- Let's see if we can make sense of the past tense in German. In particular, we're going to concentrate on the 2-part past tense (das Perfekt). When can we use it? (most of the time); do we mostly start with 'haben' or 'sein'?(haben); and what's with the crazy word order? (nothing it's just keeping the best til last).
at 06:30 I've doubled up on the prefix ver-, one of them should be zer- [oops!]

Sehr Gut video. Vielen Dank. Liber GruBe aus Québec!
Danke sehr! Liebe Grüße nach Québec 🤩
Erzälen Sie mal, wie man Partizip II verwendet für Sätze wie "It would have been better if I had xyz" oder "Had it been this way, ABC would have been better/worse."
Wo unterrichten Sie?

Hallo! I have a question. I have seen a sentence: 'Aber ich habe ihn gestern mit einem Mädchen tanzen sehen'. I think the correct formation should be ' Aber habe ich...tanzen GEsehen'. Not sure if this in Perfekt or some other tense. Kindly clarify. Vielen Dank.
A good couple of questions! You’ve got a good feeling for the language - knowing that the verb should be in the 2nd position and how to form the perfect tense. But no, the sentence is correct. Why? 1) aber is a coordinating conjunction and their role is to join sentences without altering the position of the verb. Coordinating conjunctions (aber, oder, denn, sondern, und) don’t count, it’s like they reset word order; 2) sehen can be used a bit like a modal verb (ich sehe ihn tanzen). Put into the past tense this becomes (ich habe ihn tanzen sehen) : this is what modal verbs do in the past tense, although modals are mostly used in the simple past form. So, ‚Ich habe ihn tanzen sehen‘ is correct.
@@bausteine Vielen Dank. I am really grateful to you for the clarification. This was troubling me for the last few days as I was not getting a clarification not even from my teacher. So I am assuming 'sehen' is an exception and should be used in infinitive form just like any modal verbs at the end of the sentence in 'Perfekt'.
If you’re familiar with how ‚lassen‘ works (ich habe es machen lassen), then ‚sehen‘ works much the same (hören too)
@@bausteine Thank you. Completely clear now.
@@bausteineLikewise I am assuming: 'Ich habe eine Email schreiben müssen' is also correct.
I like to buy your book how can I get , or where can I buy it from

Hallo Kalak!! Danke für den Kommentar! Vocab is so personal- what is useful is different for everyone, but yes, this sounds like a good idea for a future video. Is there particular vocab that you’re interested in?
