James Taylor and the tubist Howard Johnson performing one of my favorite songs from Sesame Street. Pay close attention to the tubist at the end or the young Asian girl at the beggining.
My aunt had this on VHS, when I was a kid! I showed this clip to my sister, awhile back, and she literally FREAKED OUT. She was so happy to have seen it again after so many years! LOL!! So, last year, she went on eBay, got her own copy on DVD, and she plays it for her kids constantly. (I secretly think it's more for HER) :D
Somehow I think the childrens' and James' voice go great together in the chorus. Every time I listen to this, I just giggle like crazy. Excellent song!
I just started teaching 2 years olds about a month ago. I played the entire Silly Songs VHS for them that I brought from home, they absolutely loved it. They especially thought it was funny to see their 22 yr old teacher singing along and laughing.
because they're kids! they love being alive and haven't got the weight of the world crushing their spirits yet. :) thanks for posting this clip I loved this when I was a kid.
"Everybody" never watched "The West Wing," because there's a whole bit where James Taylor is the secret musical performer at the White House and a secretary who can't resist giving a tiny hint tells her colleague "Jellyman Kelly" out of the corner of her mouth. Trust me, the song ain't completely forgotten, not by a long shot. :) It's the whole reason I found this video!
I am amazed how many of my kids' songs I find myself singing when I'm alone in the car, even now when they've grown up....first heard this one on the In Harmony record (vinyl, that is) in the early 80's (does anyone know when the record came out?). How many times do you hear a tuba and a guitar...how fun...brings back great memories! I love singing the lyrics and the tuba piece together.
Never mind James Taylor, Howard Johnson on Tuba is so cool. This is what Sesame Street was all about for me, bring worlds together, Black and White, Adults and Kids, Jazz and Country Folk. All that and a cool theme tune too.
Love James Taylor. I remember a quip in the paper that mentioned JT & Carly Simon. It seems they were going to a party in NYC and took a cab. The columnist said, well, of course, because between the two of them they can't afford a limo.
im 32 & i listen to this song whenver i can. have you ever heard the entire album 'in harmony'? if not google it, there were plenty of other artists on it, it too was brilliant
I never seen this befor i never knew that people like James Taylor can be aimed at a very young audience to me he is in the same genre of Bob Dylan, The Animals, The Carpeters, Bob Seager, The Turtles, Peter Paul and Mary and others.
@kburger618 I know exactly what you mean brother! You know, this was the first song that I ever remember hearing as a child, and thus my passion for music began! Unfortunately I never did learn to play the guitar like i wanted to, but I learned to use my voice to its full potential. Not only do I love music, but ever since hearing this song, I have acquired a love for the stage all around. acting, singing, comedy, i love it all. And I hope someday to acquire a living with this passion someday!
Here's a story about jellyman Kelly Who loves jelly the most Ah but most of all Jellyman Kelly loves his jelly on toast Here's the part about jenny mulhenny She's a fireman's daughter Yeah but most of all Jenny mulhenny loves to boil hot water Love it!
i agree with you 100%... kids need to have fun in their young life while they still are young...LEXIxDIVITO must not have remember her childhood so well cause if she did they'd remember screaming alot just for fun... unless she had uptight parents that wouldnt let her scream without punishing her... but you are right
being that I am a guitarist of modest talent I'm having a hard time picking this beauty up by ear. I have the E and walking back but beyond that I stumped. Anyone out there have the chords for this?
BTW, in case it wasn't clear, I was trying to be supportive. :) The idea was that the crazy ones were the ones calling you crazy for having a good memory!
@bockkey haha its not his nails, theyre little cap things on his finger tips, ive seen other guitar players wear them before. (i dont know what theyre actually called) but its not his nails haha.

A true classic, I wish he would sing this at his concerts and see how loud everybody can get!!!!!
I just started teaching 2 years olds about a month ago. I played the entire Silly Songs VHS for them that I brought from home, they absolutely loved it. They especially thought it was funny to see their 22 yr old teacher singing along and laughing.
I can't stop listening to this song, the lyrics are so smooth
Such a great tune. And after at least several dozen listens I've discovered that the best thing about this song is Howard's tuba. Absolutely perfect.
i love this...been watching this years.
wow that's a blast from the past and it's adorable.
Howard Johnson, the greatest jazz tubist who ever lived, died two days ago. RIP Howard.
This was my very favorite song, and still is!

i love this song. those kids crack me up!
Me too! Unfortunately it looks like the Sesame Street kids might be all grown up by now, but most times I’ll pretend that they’re still young.
That’s why I’m thankful for my imagination and other fun stuff to enjoy in life
The girls directly to his left and right are the shit.... Future metal-heads.
