  • 1970 Ford Torino GT 429 SCJ Convertible Muscle Car Of The Week Video #16
    There were many ways to order Muscle Cars, but this week's Muscle Car Of The Week from the Brothers Collection is a 1970 Ford Torino that makes any drive a fun time! This black convertible is hiding a 375 HP 429 Super Cobra Jet V8 under the hood, along with a 4-speed and the Drag Pack 4.30:1 rear gear for blistering speed. Plus, the drop-top makes it fun to drive even when you're not burning the tires through the gears!

    I got one that was brand new in 1970...it was yeller, I gave it away on a trade in after serving three tours in Nam...I was disabled like McConnell looked for 20 sec. They don't want to give it back...oh well!

    Wow it has a 71 hood ! ( No vents ) Also I cant believe someone ordered this car with 430 gears and a 4 speed with NO tach !!! It has a clock instead ? Thats crazy !

    • @jeremythompson9122
      @jeremythompson9122 4 роки тому

      Yeah that is pretty crazy. Maybe the original owner had an aftermarket tach in it at one time. A drag racing driveline in a convertible doesn't make much sense either

      @@jeremythompson9122 If a person liked convertibles and liked muscle cars and to run his down the quarter and maybe lived in Portland, Seattle, SOCAL or many places in Arizona, Utah, The Bay Area and as long as you just wanted a nice fast car fun to cruise in and to drag race on nice days and nights. I dug the HELL out of my '62 Stude, Lark Daytona with 425 Nailhead dual quad. Riv option and 4 speed. My 427 Vette and my '66 Alfa Romeo. If lived in a warm sunny climate that was not to heavily populated it would be fun. The car would probably never get more than 200 miles from home. Here, that's down to the coast on a 2 lane road. That just isn't a freeway car without a Gear Vendors.

    It might be better for everyday use with 15's, fat rubber and a 4.10: 1 or even 3.73: 1 rear diff. Save the car parts though, collectors are a picky breed. I'm surprised they didn't build this car with the Boss 429 engine. Would have loved to seen a smoke show.

    • @jeremythompson9122

      Ford should've made a Boss 429 Torino/Cyclone in 1969-70. Thats definitely one of the muscle cars that should've been built but wasn't...like a 1973-74 GTO SD455 or an R-Code 427 Mustang

    Huh. I knew a guy that bought a blue one brand new with black ragtop and interior but his had bucket seats and a console and "only" had 4.10's in the Detroit Locker but it was the 429 SCJ, 4 speed with Drag Pac. The Homecoming King & Queen always got to ride in that one. The runners up rode in his wife's '69 Shelby GT500KR. The car still exists but I haven't seen it since he sold it with 17,XXX original miles on it......... I tried to tell you Steve, sell one of the Shelby's, keep the Torino. :o/

      Only 3 of these SCJ convertibles cake with a 4 speed. Your friend owned either the first, second, or third one

      @@willthetrill4849 Yeah according to one of the big Ford clubs ( don't ask which one I'm a Chevy guy ) they believed there to have only been 3 as well but his B-I-L (my best friend) contacted them a few years back to get production numbers on it and the President of the club called him personally to get more info about the car and was quite excited as it made #4 and had previously been unknown to them. He sent copies of the window sticker, warranty info etc. and they verified it as legit although we already knew that. He bought it brand new from the little hole in the wall small town Ford dealership his father worked at as sales manager.

    • @robertstewart3086
      @robertstewart3086 5 років тому +2

      Ford produced a fair amount of 429 CJ & SCJ's for 1970 , But just a hand full of 429 SCJ's were produced in 71. I think like maybe 500 or so. The SCJ and the Boss 351 were Truly the last Hurrah from Ford ! ( with the possible exception of the 351 HO in 72..)

    Were all convertible Torinos labelled GT in 1970?

    • @SteveRood1
      @SteveRood1 10 років тому +1

      No, the GT was an option. You could've orderd a standerd Torino Convertible with the F code 302 2V V8 with out the GT Option package.

      +Fredphron That is what I thought I remembered.
      I had a 1968 GT fastback and I kind of researched every thing I could find about Torino's back then.
      Every time I buy or build a car I research everything I can about it.
      That is my disease.
      I like to know what I have and how it came to be and where it went.
      I do have some old publications I have collected from that era but I didn't dig them up out of storage.
