- How to Replace the type C charging port for Lenovo Thinkpad E15 series.
This instruction is not for novice.
Proper tools are required for successful repair.
Since about 10 years I have not touched a soldering iron. Now it looks like I have repaired a E15. It is charging with 60W.
Thanks to your instructions. Well explained.
Now I feel like I can build a moon lander. 😂
Happy!! 😊
Good video, thanks. Very clear and no annoying music 🤣 All the best for 2024
Thank you very much for this video. I am preparing myself to replace the same C connector on my Lenovo E495. Very timely help for me. Just have to get some hot air desoldering station. Fortunately, where I am right now it's pretty cheap. 🤣
Good luck!
Thanks so much for posting.
Great video.
My conclusion after watching: It is definitely above my skill level.
I think I will have a professional repair shop do it for me.
Wouldn't have known without the video.
Thanks for the detailed instructions. Very helpful
Would you say this repair is also possible without a soldering gut? Only with a soldering iron?
Omg....you are master.
But,
I cant repair my usb c port of my x390.
Its extremely risky for me
Good vedio although
👍
Good job man but doesnt the soldering heat have effects on the SSD that was mounted on the motherboard whole time?
@philipparteroi not at all.
BLR. Do you use Board view? A fairly new Micro Center has a similar repair / testing / upgrade team, but I don't think they're allowed to perform BLR. Some of their technicians can, but at a private level. Thank you and great repair! Should you turn the mobo over after cleaning the old solder off to check for additional old solder on the other side?
Great Video! Thank you. What temperature were you using the soldering gun at?
I use Hakko FX951 and temp was 365.
@@computergeeksrepairThanks.
Do thse fail on the exterior pins (where cable is plugged in) rather than the pins holding it to the motherboard ? Because motherboard end looks solid. I just got an X13 and the USB-C is very very wobbly. I want to know what to expect or where to be careful.
lenovo x280 charging port is damaged can I use thunderbold 3 type c as a substitute or will it have some bad long time effect
Sure hope you used low melt solder when you added solder....gooid job,,!
I took mine to a service centre. It has two C pin charging ports. One stopped working/ became too lose for the charger to stay on, couple of months after buying the laptop. I should have taken it back while the warranty was still in place. I figured that I may have been rough with it and then started using the other one extremly carefully but after one year, just after the warranty expired, my second port failed. Same issue.
The Lenovo service centre said that they need to change the mother board. I don't understand why the mother board needs to be replaced for such a 'small' problem.
I bought it in Canada, and now I am in India, travelling. Everything is pricier here. Is it possible they are trying to take me for a ride or does this kind of thing happen routinely? Quote given to change the ports was 100$ and to replace the mother board $400. Is that reasonable? Would it cost the same in the US or Canada?
I had similar issue with my old laptop, twice. This doesn't happen with smart phones. Same C pin chargers. Why do the laptop charging ports fails commonly? Any idea? Thanks in advance.
Here is Canada and I charge $150 for this repair including the part(new charging port). Unlike the cellphones, laptops are more heavier, so when it was pulled by an accident with charger connected, it easily causes the damage to the tiny and fragile type-C charging port. Manufacturers' excuses are 'we try to unify the ports in one type', but in my opinion, if they want to do that, they need to make the port more ridgit and easily repairable as the old laptops' DC chrging ports.
@computergeeksrepair Thank you so much for the message. Your opinion makes total sense. I also think it is a way for them to make more money. I will bring it back home to get the repair done. Where are you located?
Great work

Is it the same procedure for Lenova X280?
Yes, it is the same type of usb-c port.
How did you determine it was the port that was broken?
no voltage was detected from the end of the port.
do you offer this a service if i send in my mainboard?
Yes. Are you in Canada?
Hello, where can you get USB c port like this?

@@computergeeksrepair ok thanks

can i use a charging port from a samsung phone as replacement?
Nope.
how much do you charge for this repair
150 Cad
why is the reason to replace, no chargin or no data or no video signal through it ? or all of them.
Broken. Not charging
do you repair laptops? I have a Lenovo Thinkpad E15 with the same problem. Can I send it to you?
What is your phone number?
Is this something that Best Buy geek squad can do?
I went to one local computer place and they didn’t want to do soldering however, the week before they suggested replacing my worn / corroded USB port so I’m confused should I go back and ask for a different tech guy? I’m assuming if you can replace the USB the C port is similar… I feel like the motherboard diagnosis was an “up sale”
Bestbuy Geek Squad doesn't offer this kind of motherboard repair service. Many of my customers visit me are referred by Geek Squad. They send me cusomers to my shop...😆
