Lol she's just like any other artist.
I really like the juxtaposition of her soft vocals and the dark themes, with it being kinda like baby metal but more chaotic. I like how confusing it is. I appreciate it more than I thought I would.
It's nothing new. Sleigh Bells already did it and better. A lot of artists have actually. This is just pretentious and try hard.
I like her a lot. She's beautiful, sounds great and has a lot of charisma. The songwriting needs a lot of work. There are little bits and pieces that i really love but they're too far between.
Confusing? This is a very generic song structure. You just think those guitar parts were actually hard.

@@mister-4646 - I think he meant the contrast between the poppy vocals and the hard guitar. I'd say listen to Babymetal they do the same sort of thing much better. I did listen to Opeth a couple minutes ago. It alternates between boring and Rob Zombie choking on food. They play their instruments well but i don't like their songwriting and vocals.
I like the progression she made. Even her pop music was strange, the dark was always there. That's why I liked it.
You should definitely react to her song “X”. It goes kind of on the same format as this one but imo is much heavier and better.

What confuses me so much is she used to be just straight pop(listen to her song Computer Boy) and then when I saw she signed to Sumerian and did a song with Fever 333 I was like WTF?! Also, if you want to go down a really deep internet rabbit hole, look into the whole lore of the Poppy channel.

I can't believe you went into Poppy raw for this. The whole story/lore was the big draw for a long time, but now she seems to be focusing on the music (especially now that she's split from her creative partner). Definitely a kawaii metal/Babymetal influence, now.

Okay so, I've been a poppy fan for a while now while also being big on metal. It kinda started out as a social experiment just posting weird videos and being a pop star that's possibly a robot or something of that nature controlled by "them", like an illuminati kinda thing. But by her last album the robot poppy started becoming more self aware and aware of how shitty the world is, which made the music start getting heavier and more violent with pop elements still mixed in, questioning destroying humanity, her gender identity, and just flat out murder. Looks like she's gonna continue that vibe with Sumerian. Idk if you were reading these lyrics but it sounds all happy and poppy but the lyrics are fucked up. So yeah the best way to explain her current form would be to say she's a misanthropic robot.

I just love this song so much honestly.. it's so different! Basically this song has a deep meaning which mostly people don't understand. This song is basically tell us the dark side of depression, a person who's suffering from severe depression and wants this life to end.. That person don't like this materialistic world, don't like it's food.. he/she just want to be buried soon.

A lot of the other songs she has like this blend a LOT better. This one was okay compared to X, Play Destroy, and Scary Mask.
So Poppy is actually an act, she's suppose to represent the mind set of the mainstream pop music world, she has an entire channel dedicated to it, its some pretty sweet stuff honestly!

I’ve loved poppy since she first appeared. The anti-pop star. I’ve liked the character, but it wasn’t until this album that I really truly appreciated her for what she is. This album is a work of art. So strange, I love it.

Poppy is a character depicting a completely brainwashed young starlet entirely controlled by her handlers. She comes over as really sweet and innocent but there is a sinister, creepy undertone to her. She's like a human robot.
You should see her in interviews. The sensation that she's somehow not quite fully human hits the 'uncanny valley' so well that it triggers your primal 'fight or flight' response.
The way she describes 'they' (whoever her handlers are,) is like how a schizophrenic describes the voices in their head.

This is one of the most ADD of poppy’s “metal” songs yet... scary mask is my fave so far. And play destroy with grimes. X is dope too but the transitions are pretty jarring on that one. Still love it tho, “please get me bloody” with the Carrie vibes in the video is just sick
That middle happy section is very reminiscent of a certain passage in close to the edge by Yes.

It's like babymetal but not well as done. Every part except for the metal parts felt like different songs. I agree, it's weird for the sake of being weird and it feels like it's too weird for it's own good.
That's the point. It's not supposed to be pure metal whatsoever her music is a statement on pop music if you see all of her music videos you can definitely see it. I can't explain it well because I haven't looked into it in a awhile.

I just don't think it was done well and I feel like the jumping from part to part without any real solid transitions if one at all was done for the sake of being weird, which is where it lost me. If they didn't do it for that reason it's just bad songwriting.

Poppy has this thing with being weird. Like, if you look at other videos on the Poppy channel everything is just really bizarre. I read somewhere that there's a motive and point behind the way she does things but I can't remember exactly what. It's worth looking into

After listening to poppy for awhile now. I’m not surprised by anything she does anymore.
Poppy is a musician, but also a comedian and entertainer who has always made heavy use of weird and disturbing themes. She first became famous via her UA-cam sketches which were almost always surreal and often had dark undertones. Music has definitely become a bigger part of her brand recently, but most of her songs contain some element of deliberate irony or surrealism.
