The only thing I miss is Antonie in the 2x2 list, he never got worldrecords, but he has a worlds win and is multiple time european champ.

Max park on 6x6 is astonishing. Let's look at the WCA rankings:
1. Max park 59 seconds
2. Ciarán Beahan 1 minute 11 seconds
That's beyond domination.
I remember checking it a few weeks back and I couldn't believe what I saw...
According to Feliks and Bill Wang, Max got an unofficial 1:06 6x6 single during practice at Asian Championships back in 2018

We have never seen that level of domination since Feliks Zemdegs’ is sub 1 minute average.
i'd say the algorithm should take into account how many rounds of competition the record was unbroken in, instead of how much time it was unbroken for - Minh Thai held the record for 20 years because there were no competitions that would let anyone beat it - not because it was a crazy unbeatable WR.
Yeah that would probably be better, but sounds like a lot more work haha

This is a great ranking, I enjoyed it! The only thing I didn't understand is how exactly you calculated these points. Also, you could have shown event titles on screen, that would make it easier to understand which event you're talking about - I missed a few and had to rewind.
Thanks! Will try to make graphics more clear next time. The points are just from the factors mentioned in the beginning and just a lot of balancing to make sure the lists were as accurate as possible, the exact calculations are kinda messy lol

Thanks! Maybe could have done that, but also think duration will cover that (Max's average might not have too many points now, but will get a lot more over time since he cut the former WR by so much)

I would 100% say Feliks everytime. He is a 2 time world champion, single handedly got records lowered such as 5x5, he is one of 2 people (I think) to win every WCA event in a single competition. Still haven't watched the rest of the video but I'm interested on what the results could be.

It’s not just his competition results that make him the greatest, it’s the fact that he has inspired so many. He was the face of the speedcubing community for a good decade. His displays of kindness and good sportsmanship is a good representation for the community. Another thing to add is he put out educational content and held seminars to help out the next generation of speedcubers.
It's crazy to see Stefan Pochmann 3rd on the Clock list. For those who don't know, he invented the Old Pochmann method to doing 3BLD, and basically everyone who does 3BLD has learned his method at one point.
This was a great idea and well presented video! Of course your metric isn't perfect, and it's hard to make improvements although I do have a few suggestions for any future rankings
- Number of solves/competitions per person, obviously in the early 2000s there were very few competitions, so competitors had to make every solve count, although to be fair since there were so few solves the records also weren't pushed the farthest
- Continental records, although as you mentioned this would also be like world championships, were records from Africa/South America would be much less competitive
- Amount of times that a competitior appears in the top 10/100 results, although this would be skewed towards the very recent results, you mentioned that they would be worth more anyway. Otherwise top 10/100 results of the past could also count
- Amount of time that a person remains in the top 10/100 rankings
You do mention in the video that the system is slightly flawed but I still really enjoyed the video and some of your reasoning behind it! Would love to see this idea refined even more! Also as other people have said I love that you're making content like this that is a lot less common on cubing youtube

I think that the history of ranks would be more inclusive to cubers who never got any world records.
You could have also used the percentage of competitions they went to that they podiumed or won as another metric
Nah that just rewards people in uncompetitive regions (so Feliks)
Podiums depend on who they compete with, so I think WR is better as everyone competes against everyone

@@kingeddiam2543 He would have had far more wins taken off him if he'd been competing in Europe. He's obviously still the GOAT, but that particular stat rewards him unfairly (and punishes people in competitive regions)

Great Video, I think one flaw with this list though is that cubers who face intense competition sort of got discredited.

True, but in my opinoin, in todays world (not including the past) 2x2 goes to Zayn, 3x3 goes to Tymon, and big cubes go to Max
Also, while I agree that Feliks is the GOAT, Max is definitely better and deserves the title of goat of big cubes.

Mad recency bias lol. Kaijun was setting BLD WRs for 4 years, and even today (8 years after his first 3BLD records) he holds AsR mean. Tommy's crazy fast, but he has a long way to go to match Kaijun's achievements

For me , Feliks is the goat, when i started cubing, he dominated every event and now it feels bad to see that he is not a WR holder of any event. I still remember his legendary 5.66

I feel like a flaw in this ranking system is that, if someone was 2nd place for 9 years, they would still be worse than someone who had a wr for just 2 months.
This is a nice analysis, but I feel like Max Park is the greatest 3x3 cuber
Maybe next time you can also use if the cuber has a top 100 world rank result of an event in that year only. This can prove longevity and consistency

Iirc haiyan zhuang was banned because he insisted delegates to held 3bld average or mean event. He was so OP and passionate about bld at that time, yet he was got banned from any competition. Then years later, 3bld mean really becoming an event 😂
There's a couple of points in here that show a lack of historical understanding of cubing history. For example, not remembering that BLD didn't always used to have an "average".

I agree with you except at multi bld cause i thinj Graham siggins is just the best since he broke the wr by about 15 cubes
Maskow almost doubled multi WR, and held it for 6 years. Graham has improved WR by ~20% and held it for 3 years, most of which were during Covid. Graham's obviously incredible, but he doesn't touch Maskow's level of dominance

I just can't really agree that Feliks is the GOAT when Max and Tymon have 82% of the top 100 3x3 averages of all time and he has 2 (52nd & 99th).
It's one thing if speedcubing was a head to head type of game, but it's not. It's more like track and field where the measurement of skill is an objective number. Calling Feliks the GOAT is like saying somebody waaay slower than Usain Bolt is the greatest sprinter because they dominated at a time when everybody was slower. It makes Feliks' accomplishments less impressive that his peers were awful, not more.
i assume "greatest" as in a cuber that is the best _during their times and during the longest times_ instead of looking for present day bests
considering this analogy, minh thai deserves the position and if not then only track WR standing time as how many solves on that category has been done
I reckon one other metric that would have been useful would be average margin of victory in their championships. The main issue I see with the scoring used here is that it compares over time and not relative to the competition of the time. This is the same issue that comes up with claiming Jordan is the GOAT in basketball for example, so it is really hard to work around, but it is worth noting at least as it is an issue with this kind of thing. Overall though I reckon the lists would be pretty consistent even if you added this particular metric in (or something similar) so well done.

Imo the ranking system still could use some work, like it doesn't make sense that Minh Thai is higher on the list/"better" than tymon
a similar video can be made on best youcubers for a particular event or even a method(i know jperm would be the felix of this thing but still we do have so many other awesome youcubers)
I got a 6.35 single on squan. My first sub 9 and 3rd sub 10. It was an 11 move solution so a very shitty 1.6x SPS. If i turned normally i would have gotten a sub 5.

For BLD you should consider singles and averages more on an equal footing with respect to other events.
Yeah thought that too, but I didn't want to bias the algorithm for certain events. Still think those lists are pretty accurate though :)

The problem is that the whole idea of 'goat' is flawed its practically impossible to compare different timezones bc its not a linear path of progression its exponential and has dips and curves and even just the greatest is already subjective

- how long their record has been standing for
- number of wrs they have
- how recent the world record is
- average adds up more than single
I know but like how do I know if the number of WRs are worth 50 points each or do they get 10 extra points for how long the record stands for etc
Minh Thai 2nd? Yes, he did hold the Wr for 21 years, but let's look at how many official solves happened between 1982 and 2003. Zero. I'd say it isn't too hard to hold a WR if noone can phisically contest it.
